Canoerebel -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/2/2012 11:12:31 PM)

I think it loaded and ran.

I did get one warning message:  Could not initialize SigInt information for first turn.

The Tracker Screen did come up.  I haven't tried to use it or read anything yet, but I'll try that tonight or tomorrow.

Historiker -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/2/2012 11:38:43 PM)

I guess that's a (known) bug?
I can hardly believe that it will cost 10 times more than the regular sum while being less speedy than full acceleration?

Looks right. There will be no sigint info until you run a turn. It is normal to get that error message for the first turn.

Thanks Dan - correct advice and welcome to CR for his first foray into using Tracker ... Make sure to load a region file[;)]

I just moved to a 64 bit machine. The tracker will not work; it did work fine before on the old machine. I keep getting the following error:
CAN'T LOAD A 32 BIT .DLL ON A 64 BIT MACHINE.
I have the latest .dll in the file folder and have deleted the old db files.
Any ideas?

Joey you need to install the C++ redistr for 32 bit.

Yeah, the new AE patch is finally an official release..... [;)]

MikeS4269 -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 2:23:29 PM)

[:(] I'm in my early 30s and feel way to young to be so lost with my PC.

I have Windows 7 64 bit with the latest Java running.

I followed the instructions for the tracker religiously.

It works on my desktop (Windows XP)but totally fails every time on my new laptop (bought purely as a portable WitP AE platform).

I am seeing the following error (see attached).

After more than four hours and two days of forum searching, posting, and experimenting, I'm posting here for help.

fcharton -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 2:27:44 PM)

Hi,

I'm setting up a new laptop, Win 7, 64 bits, running with an Intel Core i7. Both java 32 bits, and java 64 bits are installed on it (this seems to be the default with Win7 installations), and it already has C++ redist files (the 2008 version, for x64).

.. but tracker won't work, or, rather, it will allow me to load the database (correctly), and then fail once a new turn is loaded, when it tries to access pwsdll.dll. Message is "Can't load IA 32-bit .dll on a AMD 64-bit platform"

As explained in "troubleshooting", I have tried to use the java 32bit instead (by changing the path in the bat file), but then I get a message like "Java platform SE binary ceased working"... and tracker closes.

Anyone here had this problem? What can be done about it?

Thanks in advance
Francois

This happens because your machine cannot find Java. Here...

Francois -
This is not usually a Java issue rather a C++ Lib problem. I note you said you have the 64x and not the x32.. This is what I have and from memory MichaelM said it is the 2005x32 C++ that counts. Although I think the 2008 does the same anyway. Do a manual windows update after installation to check you have the latest.

Cheers

Wow. It went from a short error message to a long one.

Still no ideas...

From above by floydg:

Make sure you copy the latest pwsdll.dll file from the game folder to the WitPTracker folder, remove the trackerdb.* files and try again.

MikeS4269 -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 3:35:33 PM)

Tried again. Even tried telling the game to look in both the SAVE folder and the TRACKER folder.

Got this screen.

fcharton -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 3:53:57 PM)

That's a different issue.
You need to go into the directory where you launch WITP, that would be something like
C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition
if you play the stock version, or (more likely) something like
C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2r9
if you play a beta version.

There you will find a file named pwsdll.dll, just copy it to the directory where tracker is, and everything should be all right (you might need to clear all trackerdb database file first...)

I did install both 2005 redistributable libs (x86 and x64) and did a manual update. But the problem remain. There are two cases (both starting from an empty db)

1- if I call tracker with "java" (ie the 64 bit version of it) : I get the 64bit AMD message
2- if I call tracker with "c:\program files (x86)\...\java" (ie the 32 bit version), then the database gets initialized, but I get a system message saying Java(TM) Platform SE Binary has stopped functionning (or something similar: my laptop speaks French)

But note that, in both cases, if I open an existing version of tracker, everything is fine so long the dll does not get called...

It worked.

Where do you stay?

I'd like to buy you a coffee.

fcharton -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 4:49:08 PM)

Mike,

No problem, been there too a couple of months ago...

Damian,

Got it! My laptop had Java 7 installed by default, and this prevented the 32 bit version to work. After installing jre6, everything's fine. The 64bit version doesn't seem to work, even with the C++ libs and v6.

Hi Francois -

I'm having similar problems. I was doing good with tracker, then installed 64bit Java for a different application, and now tracker will start up just fine, but when I go to load in a new turn I get the "64bit AMD" message. After reading your comments, it sounds like I can install and run both versions of Java - is that what you are doing at the moment?

fcharton -> RE: Help with Tracker (3/3/2012 8:44:50 PM)

Hi Feurer Krieg,

My machine, like most Win7 64 bit boxes, came equipped with both Java 64 and 32 bits (in order to run both 32 and 64 bit java programs). If you are using Win7, it is quite likely that you when you installed Java64, you did not remove Java 32 (look in Program Files (x86)), but just changed the global path from "c:\program files (x86)\java\jre6\bin" to "c:\program files\java\jre6\bin".

In the case, Tracker (which has to have 32) will work again, just by changing the path in the .bat launcher.

Good work Francois -
Yeah you need the 32bit version of java (jre6) and then changing the batch to point to that version is the best way to ensure that you're running it...

Cheers

Thanks guys - yea, that did the trick. Now I have 64bit java for those apps that use it, plus 32 bit java for Tracker. Life is good again!
