jackx -> Bug: Leader stacked with enemy unit (9/12/2009 6:01:22 PM)

What the title says. I don't think we have to discuss whether this is supposed to happen or not.

It occured in a PBEM of Prinz Heinrich's Gabel scenario.

One of my Austrian leaders was stacked with an infantry unit. The Prussians attack
and rout that unit, advancing after it. Now, the leader did not retreat with the unit,
but instead stayed in the same hex, which was now occupied by the Prussians. Later in the turn, he activates, and I select him and simply move him out of the enemy-occupied hex.

Can't get a screenshot, as I forgot to take it right away, and I can't load an old PBEM turn...

This is the first time I've seen this happen... could it possibly be because Austria and Prussia are switched, i.e. Austria is "Side 1" in this scenario?

Jack,

Funny, I had a different experience.

I downloaded it with the idea of seeing if I could duplicate the problem you ran into. I've ran across this one time before. I played a few turns until I attempted to move a Prussian artillery unit. While I could move the unit, when time came to unlimber it, the unit refused to unlimber. I then ended the scenario to look in the editor to see if anything there might reveal what was causing the problem. I didn't see anything and exited the editor. No sooner than I click exit the computer crashed. the computer was recently rebuilt, so I don't think that was the problem.

It's something in the scenario source code, I bet. There were a couple of scenarios where I had to remove certain units and remake them before they would function the way they were supposed to.

PH,

That looks like an interesting scenario. Can you provide some historical background for it?

Jack,

I believe I was mistaken on the source of the crash. This morning I got a note (information saved) saying the computer recovered from a serious crash. This resulted in me getting a driver update from Intel. These games use a lot of power, to say the least.

As for your problem I've seen this happen once before and after playing a couple of hundred of these games I regard it as a fluke. You could try to recreate it. I'll attempt the same.

Shoot, maybe the guy knew someone there and decided to stay and socialize for a while. [8D]

Or maybe he tried to command them, though in that case he was luckier than Migazzi at Torgau...

But yes, it's a fluke, haven't been able to reproduce it at all, no matter how hard I try. My best guess is currently that it was due to the auto-activation setting of the PBEM game, as that's the only thing I can't reproduce on my own...

Leader eliminination is annoying as it is (because of the radom spawn location and random stats, the replacement should spawn with the closest friendly unit under his command measured from the point of his elimination, IMHO, and the stats should somewhat be tied to those of his predecessor), though not so much as the fact that leaders block LOS and charges.

Jack,

Yes, I agree about leaders blocking charges and LOS. Well, on the LOS issue some of those fellers are fat, but not that fat. [;)]

Sertorius which scenario you thinking about? Gabel?
P.S. I have made scenario some time ago and my artillery also won't unlimbered. I forgot to click in option unlimbered as a avaible formation.

Sertorius1 -> RE: Bug: Leader stacked with enemy unit (9/23/2009 12:14:16 AM)

Gabel, PH.

No, apparently you went back and checked them.

This is easy to deal with. What you have to do to get them to limber and unlimber is to remove just the Prussian artillery units and save the scenario. You then exit it and reopen the editor and remake the units. When you play it the artillery units should limber and unlimber. I did this and now they work.

There is one minor error in the editor for the artillery. Unlike figuring strength for the cavalry/infantry unit where the overall unit strength is divided by the number of figures you want seen on the map, "strength/men" in this case means the number of guns or two in this case, seeing how they are the battalion guns. With "men per figures/max figures" "1"/"1" works for the artillery.
