Moving from betatesting and breaking the game to a real PBEM with my BoB Luftwaffe Nemesis Kevin.

I do not now yet if this will be a joint AAR or if he agrees not to look into it. Until than I will only give a general overview or out of date information.

me.....Defender of the Reich....aaah...Empire
Kevin....The Evil Hun (who in real life lives in on of the BoB targets.......)

CarnageINC -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/25/2009 5:40:23 PM)

I'm so jealous right now, I'll be watching these first few PBEM AAR's.  Good luck to you both [;)]

Hard Sarge -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/25/2009 6:13:32 PM)

which one of the BoBs are you two playing ?

this should be a good one

the master of the oneliners vs the master of the charts !!!!

but then again, both of them can at least spell

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/25/2009 6:24:12 PM)

We start with BoB 40 just to see if Kevin is able to do his voodoo.

Hard Sarge -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/25/2009 6:28:11 PM)

hmmmm, figures, the best two of the PBEMers and they end up playing each other !!!

krupp_88mm -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/25/2009 9:31:24 PM)

This PBEM AAR has been infiltrated by spies (me) ill be paying attention and rooting for the true heros.. Britain shall be in flames surely if you don't accept the generous peace offerings proposed by the fatherland

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/26/2009 10:48:15 AM)

Here is a picture of the UK and the boundaries of the Fighter Command.
The graphics are modded [8D]

One of the most important things at the begin of the game is to spread out your forces.
There are several A/Fs with 3 squadrons on it.....some of them quite close to the coast.
These A/Fs can be a nice target for the Luftwaffe.

Problem with spreading out is that the fuel arrives after the A/Cs get there, but as soon there is fuel on an A/F
we will be fully functional.
Another aspect is the scoring, the Luftwaffe gets points for hitting FC A/Fs, but I also can use BC and CC A/Fs.
Also there are the satellite A/Fs for the FC main A/Fs....those are smaller A/Fs (often only grass strips) which only can get half the amount of fuel the main A/F gets

will this mod become available? looks nice
thanks for the AAR

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/26/2009 10:56:20 AM)

I hope so, I will ask the creator of the map mod toput it online.
And I still hope he does something similar to BTR :D

Oops! I was just powering through the posts without bothering to read the titles, until I read this. I'm happy to steer clear, and then I can look forward to reading all about what I was thinking afterwards.

Swift
is there a reason you are showing the one day campaign ?

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/26/2009 2:03:59 PM)

HS,
this was just for the picture,
and I had a look on some units

roger, just making sure :)

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:22:04 AM)

The Battle of Britain begins........our Radio interceptors picked up heavy radio chatter in the early morning.
Soon after the sun went up, a first recce wave raced across the channel.
Because of the awaited incoming raids, there were a few patrols in the air (in total 44 Hurricanes - I save my Spitfires for later). The patrols were able to intercept a few of the recce planes, some others were forced out off our patrol zones.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:27:37 AM)

After the skirmish with the recce planes, I put up a new chain of patrols awaiting the first incoming raids.
These patrols help me to identify the incoming A/C......and the possible threat level. Is the raid only a short range Stuka raid, is it a heavy escorted small bomber raid, etc...
Much of this information I get from radar, but I like to know what kind of planes are involved.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:36:28 AM)

Around 9 o´clock AM several raids are detected - most of them from the Pas de Calais.
Patrols move closer to them. All units south and east of London are getting in the air and are concentrating south of London, because we suspect that the enemy will attack our vital major fighter airbases here.
As soon as the raids crossed our coastline I alarmed units north and west of London, to put up more fire power.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:44:24 AM)

As expected, some of the raids seem to go for my fighter bases, some others seem to go after radar.....those I ignore for the moment.
Here you can see some heavy air combot south of London. The raids are still inbound, and I try to hit them as hard as possible. But the German morale is far to high in the first few turns, so I can not make them turn back.....

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:50:08 AM)

After the first wave three major and one satellite airbase are heavily damaged and out of order until the rollway damage is repaired, but not only the rollways were hit. I will have to move several units, because the total A/B damge is far to high for a good performance!

I am also not too happy about the first clash....the loss ratio is to low...I need to do better

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 10:53:33 AM)

I get surprised by a low level attack against a power station up in the north,
but my radar chain was able to pick up the next raid......which got hammered [:D]

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 11:00:23 AM)

In the afternoon there were follow up raids against previously hit air bases and against the radar stations on the coast.
I was able to get intosuch an radar strike and my pilots finished of the major part of a Stuke Gruppe.

In the night there was a small raid against a railroad target within London.....this raid did only minor damage.

Here is the situation after the turn.
You can see my damaged airfields and the damged radar station of the home chain.
Everything in red is out of order, orange means damaged but still partly useable.
I move all squadrons away from the red air bases....only one of the squadron had a low morale (47)....that unit is now based in Scottland, the others are on the secondary airfields.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 11:02:26 AM)

The losses seem to be very historically to me [8D]

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 11:09:05 AM)

Here a look to the top pilot list.
Due to my habit to use patrols, there are several pilots with 3+ missions already.
I will have to be carfully watching the morale and fatigue levels as well as the ready A/C levels.
But for the moment it looks fine and I still ahve a huge reserve of rested units in the other Groups of Fighter Command.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 11:12:41 AM)

I have not yet messed up with the production in BoB....I only turned the AI control off.
I am still not sure if I should change anything in it......but I will probably do so.

Hard Sarge -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/27/2009 12:56:56 PM)

Good work

I wouldn't of bought out my stukas so early, those are for the kill, not to soften things up

(in the BoBs if you have to knock out a site, send in the Stukas, in BTR, send in the Mossies, but they can get hurt, and are worth there weight in gold)

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/28/2009 7:30:35 PM)

Kevin continues with hitting major airbases and radar sites.
I tried concentrate onto two raids.....one time I was happy and one time not.

here is a part of the attacked sites and an overview of the English coast.

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/28/2009 7:34:29 PM)

Here is the lost A/C chart.
This time my happy attack hit the Do17 raid very well, but the other attack against a Ju88 raids suffered......

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/28/2009 7:37:08 PM)

As Kevin is hitting empty A/Fs ( I was able to move my units out of the major airbases south of London), I now have some movement points to strengthen my AA defences on the coastal sites.
I hope that the repair crews are able to bring back some of the knocked out Radars soon.....otherwise I will be in deep trouble!

wernerpruckner -> RE: BoB - Swift vs Kevin (9/30/2009 7:15:59 PM)

Kevin continues to crumble my radar lines [:(]
He was able to create a huge gap, and he used it to hit more of my main Fighter Command A/Bs.
