French turn 33 posted.

timurlain -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/7/2010 10:00:02 AM)

Hello guys, I am travelling - work related - again. I am in London now. I plan on sending my turns as usual, but due to workload and also due to a war I got involved in (and thus more diplomacy + organization) I may be able to send only two turns this week. I hope that is not the case, but OTOH I don't want to get fired :)

Graet game so far. Treacherous French and Turks !

Small note: Is there any sensible reason not to declare war via sneak attack ? I mean the penalty is virtually non-existent. Also if France and Turkey hoped Austria will go gamey and do an instant surrender they are wrong. They will have to be the ones surrendering now. :)

montesaurus -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/8/2010 4:58:05 PM)

French Turn posted!
Have a good trip Tomas, and hopefully you'll be able to get your turns done soon!

Gaminess, in regards to Surprise attack? Possibly, though when a build up occurs on a border I think one would suspect trouble![X(]

I never expected a quick surrender from you Tomas! I expect we shall have some grand battles to report!

timurlain -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/8/2010 11:23:55 PM)

austrian turn sent. I haven't wanted to say it was gamey. I am only surprised how small penalty there is and thus no incentive for declaring war normally.

DaveConn -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/9/2010 1:17:38 AM)

Turn 34 just sent out, and things get more and more interesting!

timurlain -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/9/2010 11:29:45 AM)

I haven't had a chance to have look yet, but why do I get the feeling it isn't going to be good for Austria ?

When I think of the penalty, I actually think it to be about right. After all, when Austria declared war upon France, even though Napoleon was married to an Austrian Princess, there wasn't too much of a hub bub made about it!

montesaurus -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/9/2010 1:07:43 PM)

The French turn will be posted in about 7 hours! Have some errancs to run with the better half![&:]

Kingmaker -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/9/2010 1:21:55 PM)

To the Rulers of Europe

From the Swedish Court in Stockholm.

It is with grave concern that the Court received the news that both Turkey & France had started an unprovoked war with Austria. The idea of a Sneak attack against a Sovereign Power being complete anathema to the Swedish peoples we have therefore ordered an immediate emergency session of the Riksdag to decide Swedens response.

While it is vaguely conceivable that the Turkoman, being at best of a somewhat Barbaric nature, might pursue this type of aggressive policy, we experianced a sense of shock that the French court, who in the past have at least had some pretentions of Culture & Honour, should follow the lead of such an uncivilised nation.

The feeling at Court is that this can only be an example of the Republican Doctrine that has swept France in recent years, and as such raises the obvious fears of who’s next, Spain? Prussia? or even England? although in the later case the craven surrender of the English Channel to a French fleet may well give indications that England has also been corrupted by Republican sentiment, we await with some anxiety to see if she will stand idly by while a fellow Sovereign Power is laid waste.

As there can be little doubt that the shameful actions of the French will have forced all of Europe to the Brink of War, we can only hope that even at this late stage wiser heads will prevail and that even now France can pull back from the abyss of a Major European War.

It is hoped at Court that the Riksdag will be able to convene shortly and give voice to the wishes of the Swedish people; a further communiqué will be issued by the Court when a consensus has been reached.

Baron Halver, on behalf of His Majesty Gustavus Adolphus VI.

The Swedish Monarchy can be forgiven for their perception of the Turkish being "barbaric".
Considering the Turkish Empire has a significantly higher culture rating then the far Northern Swedish States can only indicate that their isolation from the rest of the world has left them bereft of the gentle and cultured nature of our Turkish allies! [:)]

French turn 34 is posted!

evwalt -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/10/2010 4:14:09 AM)

Russian turn 34 in.

I THINK that a surprise attack also lowers your standing with minor neutrals as well as a slightly higher cost in glory points.

Wow, things are getting confusing in the wars. What we need is a grand battle involving all the powers. "No! The Russian troops can not advance against THAT regiment, its Turkish. Or is it Spanish? Go after those troops over there. Hopefully, they are French." Meanwhile, the Austrians get to shoot everyone! [:D]

montesaurus -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/10/2010 5:16:06 AM)

French turn 35 is posted. And I agree with Ewalt! It's getting confusing!

timurlain -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/10/2010 7:29:48 AM)

Yey for the Austrians. They can shoot at everyone. Kind regards to the Spanish king.

HiHi

On a more practical note, the CoG PBEM community being fairly small, players that habitually Sneak attack/Backstab/Sit on the fence/or are generally Trecherous in Gameplay/?nature? DO get noted [:D]

Austrian sent in yesterday as Monte asked for.

gravey101 -> RE: GoingAgain1792 (2/11/2010 5:26:58 PM)

How on earth did Saxony ask France for protectorate status?

On the previous turn her attitude towards France was -500 or so, and in the +ve 1000's for Prussian and Russia.

Is it just pure lottery ??
