Gargantou -> Still on the fence due to IRL timeconstraints! (10/17/2009 2:23:18 PM)

So, I'm still on the fence about buying Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich, been following the game for many years and own the two originals from Talonsoft, but due to timeconstraints I have a very hard time getting in more than a one or two hours a month into any specific game, now I'm wondering, is anyone here playing the game with a macromanagement approach?

I.e. you let the AI handle most of the micromanagement, but you give more of the larger orders and overall theatre control?

A bit of a 'blurry' question I know, but recently I've found I simply don't have the time to put into these deep strategic games like I used to, hence why I'm wondering about how fun people are having trying to play it macromanagement style?

This is also partially due to the fact that I have a hard time doing stuff like PBEM games, so I mostly play against the AI, and thus by having the AI handle most of the order giving like I did in the old BTR, it made it more challenging to play against the opponent AI as well!

Thanks for any insights etc. I really do want to buy this game but due to the financial crisis my own personal economy is kinda straining as it is!

Hi Garg, I am not doing that now but have in the past.

When I first played, I got discouraged by my plans going wrong - and bored in some periods of the game - and, as the Allied BTR player, let the AI plot Raid Groups. If I recall correctly I could pick what to bomb and the area and then it would plot a bunch of stuff. I would then go in and tweak it a little - swap out the low morale or fatigued units, add some extra escorts, etc. And let it roll. It actually works reasonably well and has the advantage that it seemed that the AI was better able to figure raid launch times to find holes in the cloud over the target.

I wouldn't trust the AI unsupervised but it didn't take that much effort to get multiple days done in an hour rather than maybe 1 days worth of raids done in 1-2 hours.

However, if you want to harvest NJs while they land you'll still need to do that yourself. The AI isn't good at it. But for the sake of speed you could do without.

Actually watching game resolution is also very time consuming.
Also controlling the defenders.
Time spent in planning and resolving one day in this game is more than 1 day in Witp AE.

Buy I appreciate the short scenarios.  Something that Witp AE lacks.  And they can also be fun.

Thanks for the replies and input guys, think I'm gonna wait until Christmas with buying this, should have more time to myself then so I can properly enjoy the game!

Once again, thanks for your helpful replies!
