DerC -> My OOB and plan (7/18/2002 12:39:15 AM)
|
First, my OOB for this one. 1x FI HQ 1x AT Co (6x 50mm ATG, 4x Molotov team) If I remember correctly 2x Prime mover platoon (4x A20 Komsomolets each) 1x 152 H 37 Btn (3 Bty each) 1x 152 H 30-10 Btn (3 Bty each) 1x 75 K 17 Bty 2x Forward observer 4x Rifle Co (Rifle sqd 43, plus 4 molotov teams and 4 HMGs per company) 10x Sissi platoon (Total of 30 teams, dumbest thing I bought..) 1x Engineer Co 4x Captured T34 section (T34 m.1942, 2 tanks each) A large quantity of scout teams and some dozen snipers I called in as reinforcements (mostly to help with the breakthrough in the south) 2x Jaeger platoon (Jaeger sqd 43) 2x 122 H 39 Bty 1x Rifle co (w/o HMGs) 2x Truck platoon (5x Molotoffi each) 1x KV-1E section Then to my plan. This was a sort of an experiment to test my strategical skills in SPWaW. It worked to some extent, but I lacked the troops to make it work correctly. In the very northern and southern ends of the map I tried to make a breakthrough with Rifle companies. These breakthroughs would then allow tanks to move in and devastate the soviet rear area, flank VHs and such. One Rifle company and Engineer company were set to stop any attack attempts through my central sector, and they were to start attacking only after the 'Breakthrough companies' had finished their work. The ATGs were also supporting this defense. The remaining Rifle co was left in reserve. I ended up committing my tanks to battle too late. The infantry took horrendous casualties trying to break through the enemy lines without the fire support from tanks. After I got the KVs as reinforcements and sent them south along with some Jaegers I instantly started making progress and was at maximum some ten hexes behind the south VHs. A bit off on the north-south axis but I could effectively attack them from the south. After maybe 12 turns the attack in the north was classified as a bad joke, the remnants of a Rifle company, some reinforcements and maybe a platoon of engineers spent the rest of the battle defending northern VHs. I also had most tank losses in that sector. :( The central sector was surprisingly easy to capture since I used fresh reserve units with tank support on a suppressed enemy. Artillery surely is the king of warfare. This strategy of mine still needs some work. Oh well, I seem to have written a long story about it. :D I'll compare the casualties here, first Finnish then Soviet. Men 1041 : 889 Arty 3 : 2 Soft veh. 11 : 8 AFVs 7 : 20 A couple of screenshots still coming. Overall the battle was very satisfying. Rematch in 1944 would suit me perfectly. Maybe later winter war and such. Thanks for a great game!
