gladiatt -> Bettys in the sky with diamonds- Gladiatt (A) vs John_Smid (J). No John please (10/25/2009 4:54:00 PM)

So i thought i could try an AAR;
i hope some will find interset in it.
My estimed opponant, John_Smid, is not allowed so: JAN GET OUT [;)]

We are playing Stock 1.806.
I am the incompetent allies, Jan is the dangerous japanese. We are both newbees to PBEM.
Of course feel free to post to comment, laugh, give advice or support.
At this date (25oct 2009), the game is in end of february 1942: no need to give advice for things that are past....toooooo late [;)]

Few HR:
-no conquest of San Francisco or Karachi because the reinforcements could come from other parts of the world.
-No japanese surface TF can past Singapore while still in allied hands.
-you would see that there would be some surprise by the lack of HR; but we have yet no problem.

I must also apologize for readers: at the beginning, i didn't thought of making an AAR, so there would no Screenshot until january42; i will try to make this interesting.Being not of native english language, i will maybe have some lack of words, i am sorry for my readers.
Of course i will keep a part of FOW because some things are still in action;

And here we go....

Edit: after a few days of wonder, i found a tittle wich refer to one of my favorite group in the whole world and history of music....i just had to make a slight change [;)]

gladiatt -> RE: No Tittle yet (10/25/2009 5:17:44 PM)

7 December 1941

The war did not start with an attack on Pearl Harbor (what a silly idea...).
It started with the bombing of philipinian bases, followed by attacks on the British posession's. Everywhere, the japanese assaut aim the airfields and the planes on the ground.
Hong Kong, Khota Bharu, Singapore, Clark Field, Bataan Island are targeted. The jap's planes attack from 5000feets: low enough, the Flack destroy some attackers. But on Clark, 22 US planes are destroyed, mainly old fighters and some P-40.

After the air attacks, come the first landings...
In Philippinas, these are at Aparri and Legaspi. As soon it happen, the two Philipinas divisions in Aparri are moving south to reinforce Clark Field: the allies HQ think that the only way to resist is to gather the weak forces at disposition.
There are others landings: Guam, Wake, and much more frightening, Rabaul.

Having been warned of the japs attacks, the allies had already had some actions. Force Z was directed toward Batavia, in order to escape the air threat, and looking for an opportunity to strike a jap surface TF in range.
The two US CV are headed south, with the fear of running in range of the KB; no sight of this monster.
From Pearl, a CD Gun unit is loaded on a fast transport TF, and arrive in Johnston Island on the 11th....it will prove useless.
At this moment, the allies don't have realized what threaten them...

8th dec - 14th dec

NorthPac
The AK in Anchorage are sailing for Nome: the RCT will reinforce Dutch Harbor.

Centpac
-Guam fall the 8th. MSW Penguin, who was forgotten by the allied HQ (shame on me) was scuttled.
-A landing occur on Wake, japanese DD shelling the beaches. The 10 F4F present straffe the japanese units, with no results, and on the evening of this day, the base fall.
-Tarawa is seized the 9th
-The Hawain Island are surrounded by swarm of subs, so ASW groups are formed....to be targets for these subs: 2 PC are sunked, DD Allen badly damaged, for no hits on the japs...
- CV Lady Lex and Enterprise sail toward Baker Island, thinking of maybe they could caught a transport TF; but a Catalina from Johnston spot KB, and the 2CV are headed East to cover.
-on 14th december, 7 japs BB, covered by KB, start shore bombing Johnston, making a mess on the CD Gun unit that was just bring in there.

SoPac
-as soon as 8th dec, the japs land at Rabaul:66e nav guard, Maizuru SNLF and 3 others NLF; this landing is supported by DD making shore bomb.
Willing to deter this invasion, the allies HQ make an error (one of many) and send the old CL Adelaide, wich was cruising near Port Moresby, thinking it could handle some japs DD; on the night of the 10th, CL Adelaide is sunk by 4DD, managing to damage 2 of them.
On the ground, the 3500 australians soldiers of the Lark and NVGR battalions face the 4500 japanese soldiers, resisting with the help of a Wirraway sqadron straffing the japs units. A small squadron of 6 Hudson score no hits on the invading ships.
A few Nells and Betty from Truck bomb the base, destroying 2 wirraways on ground and loosing 4 planes to the Flack.
On the 14th, thinking the japs could be out of supplies (the transport having sailed back), the 2 australians battalions attack, but fail in their attempt to repulse the japs, suffering more losses (10 japs/160 australians).

China
Changas is besieged from the 10th: 4 japanese divisions, 1 brigade, 2 arty, against 8 chinese corps.
To relieve pressure on Hong Kong, the chinese launch on the 9th an attack on Canton, but the 4 chinese corps are repulsed with heavy losses by the jap 104e Div and 3 Arty.
In Hong Kong, the attackers planes aim the airfield, allowing DD Scout, Thanet and Thracian to escape toward Jolo. The city resist 5 assauts and fall on 13th dec. A single US subs managed to evac a fragment of the UK base.
Trying to put pressure on the japanese anywhere that is possible, 2 chinese corps attack the jap 19e Brigade in Nanning on 10th december, and seize the base on the 11th. The chinese decide to follow their advance toward Pakhoi, in order to capture a port. But as the chinese corps reach Pakhoi, they sight 3 japanese Tank Regiments waiting for them.

Philippinas
As soon as the bomb start to fall on Clark Field, all ships in Manila are sailing toward the south, trying to escape the jap airpower. The CVL Ryujo, spotted near Mindanoa, is a threat, but it is hoped that some ships could made it. The CVL is attacked by some B-17 of 19 BG, with no hits. The Kates of Ryujo sink 4 AK and 1 PG in 2 days.
After shelling Aparri, Vigan and Legaspi, some surface TF enter Sulu Sea, adding to the losses. The 9th december, all 6 US PT Boats are sunken near Vigan, causing no losses or damage uppon the japanese DD and CL.
11th dec, the AK Compania Filippinas is sunked at San Jose, while trying to load supplies for Manila.

On the ground, Legaspi fall on the 8th dec: next stand will be Naga.
The same day, 65e brigade and 48e division capture Aparri.
In the air, the japanese made massive airstrike on Clark Field, gathering usually 80-100 bombers. In 3 days, they destroy 16 planes. The US sqadrons are scattered to avoid being destoyed too easily. Some attempt are made by the allied planes to attack the transport at Aparri, with no results.
On the 10th, 93e BS (B-17c) start aiming the airfield in Legaspi. Between the 10th and the 14th, 3 us fighters are downed in these attack, for the losses of 4 Tojo in the air, and 4 others japaneses planes on ground. But shortly, the numbers of avalaible planes lessen: damaged planes, destroyed on ground ( 8 fighters and 4 bombers destroyed on ground during this week).

Malaya
The first goal of the japanese is to hold a base in Malaya, from where they could start the invasion: Khota Bharu. The base (heavily shelled the 7th) suffer many shore bombardement the 8th, 9th and 10th dec. The 18th division seize a good foothold on the beaches. Many bombers (Lilys from Saigon, Sonia from Singora) add to the punching. On the 10th, the 8th Indian Brigade is forced out of the base, and start to retreat south under the bombs.
The RAF sorties against the many TF at Khota Bharu. But the Buffalo is not able to protect the bombers, and when these come above the japs ships, lack of experience and flack are enough: no hits are made in 3 days (except for maybe a 250lb on a AK, but a sync bug at this time made it not sure).
One sqadron of the AVG is send in Georgetown, to help escort the british bombers. They start inflicting and suffering losses with the japs at an even (and sometime better ) rate; but Buffalos and Wirraway are defeated and downed in numbers. Singapore is heavily bombed all the week, the zero outmatching the buffalos. The damage are high on the base, wich is a real problem to build forts !! But the Flack made a good job, destroying many bombers (attacking at a low altitude of 5000 feets, hence the heavy damages and heavy losses).
In one week, the air war in Malaya costed 65 planes to the allies, 40 to the japanese.

DEI
ABDA HQ decided to gathers the Borneo forces, in order to resist: the 8th, the Tarakan CD unit and Battalion is loaded on DD and CL in a fast transport TF, and unloaded the 9th at Balikpapan (leaving the base force in Tarakan for the planes operating there).
Then the CL and DD of the Dutch Navy gathered with CL Boise and CA Houston, waiting for an opportunity.
On the 11th december, several jap TF are nearing the Malakka Strait, with CVL Ryujo, so the allied surface fleet sail south. 4 allied MSW are sunked by the Kates in Balikpapan, the brewster being useless in CAP...
Between 12th and 14th december, Martins and T IVa from Tarakan or Balikpapan don't score a hit, but suffer many losses (9 planes destroyed, 52 sorties). The small air supports of the dutch base force make it impossible to gather the airforces. In the Malakka strait, the Kates and the surface ships of the japanese sink 2 AO, 3 TK, 2 AS, 5 AK, 1 AP in 3 days, wich where fleing from Manila in vain.

On 8th dec, a surface TF is spotted East of Toboali; the night of the 9th dec, CL Sendai and 14DD raid the Batavia harbor, sinking 2TK (trying to load oil for Australia). DD Shirakumo hit a mine, and can not follow the TF sailing back toward Saigon: the 10th, DD Shirakumo is sunk by SS K XIV near Singkawang. 17 sorties from Martins in Batavia or Kunching score no hits.

On the 14th dec, Menado is shelled by several CA and CL.

15dec-21dec

CentPac
On 15th dec, BB Hyuga, Ise, Fuso, Nagato, Yamashiro, Kirishima and Hiei wreake havoc shelling Johnston Island:350 casualties-8guns-2 catalinas.
This huge battlefleet is covered by KB: ss Gudgeon miss CV Kaga, and in the morning, 12 Vals from Hiryu bomb AK Mercury before it had time to unload it's supplies in the base. On 16th, I-170 put 2 torpedoes in the AK who sink.
Immediately, US subs are headed for Johnston, to lay mines.
On the 17th, 137 vals and 138 kate flattent Johnston (loosing 1 val), preparing the landing of the Shunzan Nav Guard and the HQ of 14 Army. The base fall in the day; 2700 us soldiers are lost, with 4 catalinas. Only thing to rejoice, a japanese AP hit a mine and sunk the next day.
As soon as Johnston fall, willing to avoid the use of the airfield, B-17 from Pearl aim the place. The 7 BG attack the 18th; 22 fortress does a few damage to the runway. But the 19th, 45 Zero of E-I and E-II Datai "welcome" the bombers, and down 3 of them.

SoPac
On 15th dec, 3 CL (Yubari, Tatsuya, Tenryu) shell Rabaul. The 16th, the jap bring the South Sea Detachement in renfort. Did the place hold for more they expected ??? On the 18th, the base fall; Lark, NVGR batallions and the BF retreat in the jungle...their story is not finished yet. 3 wirraways and 1 Hudson, previously damaged, are destroyed on ground, but the sqadron had evacuated just in time the day before...(in Port Moresby).

China
Changsa is bomb daily by raids of 60-90 bombers; mostly Ann and Sonia. Some I-16 try to fight them, and manage sometimes, but also fall under the bullets of Oscar.
Even after the fall of Hong Kong, the chinese try to put pressure at Canton; but constant bombing by the air and the ground disrupt heavily the 4 corps, and they retreat toward Wuchow on 17th.
At Pakhoi, the 3 japs Tank Regiments, with a ratio fo 0/1, cause 400 casualties to the chinese for only 24 soldiers and 2 vehicules.
The air war in China costed the japs 7 planes for 6 chinese.
Except for very remote base, forts are builded everywhere in China.

Philippinas
15th dec, SS S-38 put a torp on PG Saiko at Legaspi, putting it on fire.
The air bombing of Legaspi airfield continue with some results for the allies (3 Nells and 1 Dinah destroyed on ground the 15th).
At Clark Field, daily bombing raids of 20-80 bombers damage each day the base. The 24FG on P-40E don't always handle the Zero, but can hurt the Betties when bad coordination bring them without escort. The US base of Vigan and San Marcelino are flattened by the Ann and Sallies; many old figthers are destroyed on ground (P-26 and P-35), and the base are evacuated for Bataan.
The airwar in Philippinas costed the japs 32 planes, for 49 to the allies.
On the 17th, 51e PA Div and 194e US Tank Bn try an offensive on Legaspi (hoping for the firepower of the us tanks), but they are repulsed and disrupted. Bombing by Ann and Sallies next day force the allies to withdraw toward Naga.
All US Subs are headed toward Singapore, Darwin, Rabaul, Balikpapan.

Malaya
On 15th dec, SS I-156 sink AK Elout trying to evacuate cadres from Singapore. On the 16th, 2 more AK are sunked in Malacca Strait by Nells before reaching Singapore with a load of supplies. The AP Empire Puma, heavily damaged, dock in emergency at Medan, and draw 3 attack in 3 day, suffering 20 bombs and 5 torp hits before sinking; but this does not enable 2 others AK to be sinked in the Strait.
Georgetown is under air attack from Singora and Khota Bharu. The flack exact a toll on the bombers (6 of them in 3 days). The 15e Indian Bde retrait from Alor Star in Georgetown to garrison the base (wrong move).
At Singapore, a second AVG sqadron is send to bolster the defence. The AVG fight on nearly even rate against Oscar and Zero. The port and the airfield are bombed, not allowing fort to be raised.
The airwar in Malaya this week costed 20 japs planes and 18 allies.
All land units (except for the 15e Bde) are headed toward Johore and Singapore. On 20th december, the japanese 35e bde enter Kuantan undefended.

DEI
On 15th dec, Miri is shelled by BB Haruna, Kongo and Yamashiro. The base, undefended, fall on 21th dec.The 21th, Brunei is shore bombarded by the same BB TF, and he CD guns of the base become useless, disrupted.
Menado is shelled by 4 CA (Furutaka, Kako, Kinugasa, Aoba) the 15th; landing by the 56e bde start the same night, and the base fall at the end of 16th dec. A single jap MSW had suffer damages; the ABDA HQ is very upset, thinking of many days of fighting there. As soon as 17th, B-17C of 93e BS bomb the airfield, with no results.
In Java Sea, the dutch airforce launch 56 sorties in 3 days against DD Yamagiri limping back north after hitting a mine in Batavia, scoring no hits on this ship.
On 18th dec, CL Sendai and 12DD raid Toboali harbor, sinking 2AK loading supplies (for Singapore), and sink another AK in Sampit the next day. No hits on this TF either.

South of Balikpapan, another DD TF is spotted, but in 2 days, 28 sorties of dutch Martin score no hits.
On 20th dec, 6 Nell pass a leaky CAP of 6 Brewster, attacking force Z. Hopefully, Prince of Wales and Repulse are not hit. The small Force Z sail toward Tjilitjap, where a CAP of 8 Hawk await them; Admiral Doorman cruiser force sail to gather with it (with also CA Houston and CL Boise).
The Lombock base force is evacuated toward Koepang; the Benjaermesin battalion is loaded on AK toward Soerebaja, arriving on 20th dec.

BURMA
Not willing to be trapped in Rangon, the allies HQ decide to evacuate most force of the base, leaving only the air support. The Rangoon Fortress board some AP and sail toward Trincomalee; a indian Bde is send toward Andaman. The dutch base force of Medan is airlifted toward Andaman, to start building forts (with 2 eng sqad not disrupted, it will be long...). This will cause problems later.
The japs planes in Bangkok keep an eye on these evacs. In the week, 8 AK are heavily damaged by Anns or Nells, 2 AP and 2AK sinked. Every ships are hit while inbound for Rangoon, and not outbound with troops ( except one AK wich sink with 230 mens aboard).
Willing to shut Raheng airfield, the brit's launch several sorties with Blenheim, with Buffalos escort. The Oscar is stronger then the brit fighter, and the allied planes suffer losses for no result on the airfield. The Ann attacking Rangoon harbor suffer from the flack.
The airwar in Burma cost this week 6 planes for each side.

gladiatt -> RE: No Tittle yet (10/27/2009 4:06:53 PM)

22th DEC-28th DEC

CentPac
At Johnston Island, B-17 from 7 and 5e BG attack the airfield; 38 sorties are made on 22 and 23th december, doing slight damage to the runway: no Zero defend the place: KB has sailed north, at Midway.
Midway is wrecked on 22th dec by 180 planes. 46 others planes sink the AK Castor before it could unload supplies at the base.
On the 25th, KB is back at Johnston: SS Triton tried to torpedo CV Hiryu, miss and escape the escort of 5 DD. But the mine laid by 4 US subs are hit by DD Arare and DD Yamagumo; Yamagumo sink immediately; Arare will sink later (FOW made it appear nearly 3 weeks later).
From now on, Coronado flying recco missions on Johnston will always sight auxiliaries on Mine sweeping and ASW missions near the place.

SoPac
Wallis Island is recconed by Glenns.
After a long time hesitating, Allied HQ pay PP to ship the 2e Australian Tank Regiment for Port Moresby, to help defend the place. But as soon as the small convoy leave Brisbane, the allied SINGINT learn that CVL Ryujo is in Rabaul, frightening to catch this convoy.
Hopefully, it dock in Port Moresby on the 29th, unloading the unit and 3000 supplies

China
Changsa siege continue witth heavy air and land bombardement by the japanese forces. Some corps are send from Hengchow and Kunching to reinforce, but the travel time is long before they can reach the place.
Pakhoi siege must be leaved: on the 26th dec, control of Nanning (free of unit at this time) change (game mechanics certainly), cutting the supplies to the 4 chinese corps, wich are forced to withdraw north, hoping to seize Nanning once more.
Hanoi is targeted 3 times in the week by IL-4, but few fly each mission, and no result are scored.
In Wuchow, the 3rd AVG sqadron ambush the japs bombers 2 days in a row: for the losse of 2 P-40, 10 bombers are downed. The 26th, Oscar appear to escort the bombers, and the AVG leave for another place.

PI
Manila airfield is the new target of the japs (after Clark being abandonned). The dreaded Zero wipp the P-40 of the 24FG. The bombers once more destroy the planes on ground, trash the stockpile and the runway. On the 27th, the P-26 squadron (don't remenber the unit) is directed (PP paid for only 3 planes, that's cheap) toward China; orders are to await an useful upgrade in many many many months.
On the 23th dec, Lingayen is seized by the 14000 soldiers of the japanese 65e bde;
On the 27th, SS S-38 encounter an ASW escort at Aparri, and suffer many direct hits. Heavily damaged, on fire, the sub limp back toward Manila, but will never reach it.

Malaya
The Malacca Strait is a death zone for the allies ships. In one week, 4 AK and a MSW are sunk by japanese planes or subs. No one reach it's goal: unloading supplies in Singapore.
DD Stronghold escape a 9 Nell attack on the 25th, and pick the tiny dutch battalion at Medan, for Andaman...
Alor Star fall the 22th dec. Georgetown is isolated the 23th. Heavily bombed, the base is emptied of allid planes. The losses of the AVG had been so bad that one squadron is merged in another, and the few planes are directed to Rangoon.
In Johore, engineers are focusing on building forts, hoping to raise a good level before the japs arrive. By 27th dec, forts are level 4.
On the 28th dec, Malacca is in hand of the japanese. FMSV Bde has just evacuated, walking toward Johore.
On the 28th, a small convoi reach Singapore, with 12000 supplies on board, but.....(to be continued for the next update).

DEI
On 22th dec, japanese landings start in Kendari after shelling by 4 CA. No counter fire came from the frigthened dutch soldiers (but what are they usefull to????). The CVE Hosho cover the landing, and detter easily the air sorties of the dutch airforce flying from Balikpapan and Makassar. The CW-Demon prove to be the useless plane in the allies arsenal ( 0 losses inflicted in a month!). Hudson flying from Amboina and B-17 from Darwin score no hit either. In 3 days, 37 sorties achieve no result. Kendari fall the 23th. From 24th to 27th december, the 19BG/B try to close the airfield but bombing at 37000 feet to avoid Zero lead to no result.
On the 25th, near Koepang, MSW Bittern and Tamanger are sunk by Nell coming from Kendari. On the 26th, a TF of CA closing to Timor is targetted by Hudson and B-17 from Darwin. 2 days of attack and 24 sorties score no hits. On the 27th, this TF (with the same cruisers that shelled Menado and Kendari) raid the harbor of Koepang, sinking an AK, but not before it unload the small AA battn coming from Lautern. 2 more days of attack and 25 more sorties from Darwin had no more results on the japs cruiser.
On the 27th dec, SS O-16 spot CVE Taiyo and Hosho in the Makassar Strait.
Doorman's cruiser force, sneaking near Lombock, wich was trying to catch an opportunity to fight a invasion TF, is threaten by Kates of these CVE, Nells of Kendari, and a jap Sub. Luck made them escape damage, but on the 28th, Doorman withdraw West of Bali.

Burma
From Rangoon, some Blenheim try to slow the 33rd japanese division closing to Tavoy, with no result. The place is lost the 23th.
At Rangoon, Oscar an Ann raid the harbor. Buffalos and Lysander suffer heavy losses. The lysander is so bad that it is withdrawn to Dacca.
On 24th dec, the AVG Squadron transfered from Georgetown tangle with the Oscar and Ann. 2 P-40 are lost in 2 days, for 2 Oscar. The Ann suffer from the flack, 4 bombers are downed. But the shipping lanes are nearly closed. 3 AK are sunked at Rangoon. 2 more are Sunked by Nells at Andaman before unloading their supplies cargo.
The 25th, two burmese bde are taking postion behind the Salween River, to force the japs to shock attack them, and start waiting for the invaders.

29th dec 1941 - 5th january 1942

Why not ending the 1941 year ? Because, if memory doesn't fail me, i have some screenshot for 5th january (will have to check home tonight and add them).

CentPac

Johnston Island is under constant minesweeping and ASW duty by japanese patrol boats. SS Gudgeon escape a patrol on 29th dec, SS Grayling laying mines is damaged on 1st January.
At Midway, 2 or more japs subs ward the area. On the 31th dec, TK StClair is spotted and sunked by I-25 north of Midway. AK Kentuckian, loaded with an arty regiment, is sunk by another sub. More : the subs sighted 2 small convoys heading for Midway to reinforce the place. On 1st January (happy new year [8|][:@]), 7BB and 4CL slaughter 2 convoys, 2AP and 4AK with 5000 mens of a US RCT before they reach the atoll...This huge disaster is not only very costly, it leave Midway undefended.
Japs subs start to threaten the US West Coast. 2 ASW TF of DD try to hunt them, but as no change occur in this *£#&!@# war, DD Hatfield is badly damaged by a jap torpedo on 31th december. It reaches San Francisco on 2th january, just in time.

SoPac
On 29th dec, Hudson based in Noumea spot a surface TF raiding near New Caledonia. A small australian surface fleet gathering CA Australia and Canberra, CL Leander, Achilles and Perth and DD Voyager leave Sidney in order to keep an eye on this threat, hoping to catch a few isolated DD. Guided by the Hudson making Navla Search from Noumea, the australian cruiser force play cat and mouse for 6 days, until the Naval Search indicate more then 20 ships. The allied TF then tried to avoid contact but still keeping an eye on this TF. With an incredible insight (one of many !!), my opponant catch the right place to intercept my cruiser.
In the night of 3rd January, 2CA+7CL+16DD japanese fight and sunk all allied ships. The CL Leander, last to fight, manage to put enough shell in CL Katori to sink it.
With this terrible blow, the allies High Command start to belive that all weapons and assets they have are useless, and could just be thrown away.
On 2th january , a small jap TF shell Gili Gili and continue on 3rd and 4th. On 4th january, Hudson from Port Moresby attack at Gili Gili to discover that CVL Ryujo is covering a landing force. The zero destroy 4 Hudson for no hits on the CVL. On 5th january, 5e NLF capture Gili Gili.

China
On 29th dec, a sweep of 27 Zero on chunking destroy the whole 10 I-153 on CAP.
Changsa is heavily bombed all the week. The flack exact a toll on the japanese divebombers. On 31th dec, 27 Zero clash with 6 I-16 and 9 P-40 of AVG/C. 3zero are downed for 5 I-16 and 6 P-40.
On 3rd January 25 Zero and 14 Nate suffer no losses and cause the destruction of 4 I-153 and 3 P-40. And on 4th january 24 Zero destroy 3 of the 5 P-40 on CAP over Changsa. Bleeded, the AVG withdraw to Yenen, leaving Changsa without air cover.
In the week, japanese bombardement cause 1600 chinese casualties for only 200 japanese casualties.

PI
Manila, Clark and Naga are bomb every day or so by japanese LBA.
On 30th dec, 2e and 56e jap Div, 15e and 16e Nav Guard, 8th Tk Reg reach Naga. A deliberate attack on 2th january shake the 41e and 51e PA Div and lower the fort to level 2. Attack continue on 3rd and 4th january, dropping the fort to 0 level, and on the 5th a decisive assault throw the philippinos out of their position.
North of Luzon, 65e bde clear the way toward Clark ,repulsing the 71e PA Div in the mountain East of Clark.
On 2th january, SS S-36 tried to find a target in Legaspi harbor, but is catch by an ASW patrol, suffer 5 direct hits, and sink trying to reach Manila. Who said the jap ASW was not effective ?

Malaya
As soon as 29th dec, Georgetown is besieged by 3 japs regiment. Heavy bombing by Sallys and Ann pound the place and reduce the supplies. Flack manage to down 5 japs planes in 4 days.
29th dec, 36 Nell raid Singapore harbor and sink the 3AK wich had just docked with 12000 supplies on board. A bare 2000 supplies had been unloaded in the night before vanishing in flames. In the week, 5 others AK trying to bring supplies in the place are hit by Nells, Betties or Ann. The supplies never reach the british stockpile, being always destroyed with the ships.
On 5th january, a jap surface TF come near of Toboali. Attacked by Blenheim from Singapore and Martin from Singkawang, DD Michischio suffer 4 bombs hits, and sunk thereafter. The others unindentified ships sail south in Java Sea.

DEI
On 29th dec, near Bali, 7CA+5DD of a jap TF fight a night action against CA Houston, CL Marbelhead and Boise and 5 US DD. 2 US DD are sunk by long lance torpedoes, another badly damaged. Neither of the cruisers on each side manage to score a shell hit. Boise a Jap Killer ???? No way!. During the day, 9 sorties of B-17 and T IV from Soerebaja score no hits (not surprising, isn't it?). The useless CW-Demon loose 2 planes against Zero on CAP, and 2 T IV are destroyed by Flack. On 30th, 46 sorties of different kind of bombers score no hits against the jap cruiser TF for no result, and on 31th, 38 more sorties mean 1 allied LBA destroyed; a total of 17 allied bombers had been damaged in these attacks.
On 30th december, CA Houston and it's TF flee in Indian Ocean.
At the first day of January, the unscathed jap cruiser TF raid the East coast of Java; it sunk 2 ASW TF near Kragen, wipping 4DD and 3 MSW. Then it sail north toward Batavia.

On 1st january, 6 dutch PT Boat try to surprise this CA TF at Kragen, but is repulsed, loosing 1PT for no damages on the japs. ML Krakatau, wich was hidding on the coast, is found (how does this Czech wich is my toooo much clever opponant guess where to go to find my ships??? [:@] ).
On 1st and 2th January, this raiding TF and another surface TF sustain 27 sorties, suffer no hits, and use the allied LBA as target practice.
On 3rd january, the CA TF raid Merak, and sink ML Gouden Leuw, 10 AK and 2AP. The convoy was hoping that bad weather would protect it from air threat: yeah, right, destruction didn't came from the sky. With the 2AK 2 AP sunk previous day at Merak by Nells, this is the escape door that is closed: the cadres from Singapore, evacuated by subs, were to board these ships and sail for India....They are trapped in Java.
On 3rd january also, at Toboali, BB Haruna, Kongo and Mutsu try to raid the port (another AK was hopping to load supplies for Singapore). 26 bombers from Singapore (Vildebeest and Blenheim) and Singkawang (Martins) attack these monsters. 2 LBA are downed by flack, a 250lb bomb bounce harmlessly on Haruna. But at sunset, 5 dutch PT Boat intercept the japs BB. They fire their torpedoes and flee quickly without losses, and had put on fire 2 japs DD of the escort.
Beetween 2nd and 5th January the allied bombers fly 77 sorties against the several ennemies TF in the Java Sea: no hits are scored, 3 LBA are destroyed by flack, 24 are damaged.

BURMA
29th dec, at Andaman, 16 Zero and 9 Nell encounter a mighty CAP of 1 Wirraway and 1 buffalo. 1 Wirraway destroyed. 2AK in the port put afire, a small 500 supplies are unloaded before they sink.
Moulmein fall to the 33rd jap Div on 29th dec.

At this stage of the war, between wrong moves, bad decision, lack of results and disaster,
the supreme allied commander run mad in his headquarter, shouting things like "game over man, game over" or "schwiktpznobrrrglllldrbarrrghhhh " (this one had never been understood). A staff of docs seize him, slap him a little on the head, throw him under the shower with frozen water, and give him his little pills so he could cool down.
And soon the SC (not Supreme Commander, but rather Stupid Commander) take back command (after much apologize to the gentlemen leading the evil foes of Japan).

Will try to post the screenshot tonight, stay tuned.

elpaco -> RE: No Tittle yet (10/29/2009 11:08:18 AM)

thanks for this new AAR

I can see you have a CV TF south of Java, just 4 hex away from a japanese CA TF.
Please tell us more about it. did you manage to score some hits ?

gladiatt -> RE: No Tittle yet (10/29/2009 11:19:07 AM)

elpaco, you're right.
When the screenshot was taken, i didn't tought of AAR, and didn't keep track of everything.
in fact, this is a TF with little tiny CVL Hermes, that came to cover Force Z. As the japs cruiser seemed at the time willing to enter Indian Ocean (read next week update, i'll do it in a few day), i was thinking of covering my surface fleet.
From the post you can see, this TF was in range of the japs TF, but, for some reason (CAP from Bali ??? Weather ?? Non motivated pilots ??? ), at this date, launch no attack on it. But things will heat in january.

And thanks to my readers: although a good part of the "hits" on my AAR are mines for update and editing, there is probably 60% made by my readers.
I couldn't think it would interest the threadster, and as english is not my native language, it is so hard to write it well, that i am (hapilly) surprised.

Edit: on the DEI/Borneo screen, you can also see 2 subs near Brunei: US Subs are evacuating the RN base toward Singapore: willing to raise fort, i need those engineers.

gladiatt -> RE: No Tittle yet (10/29/2009 1:19:21 PM)

6TH JANUARY - 12TH JANUARY

Centpac
On 6th, at Johnston, SS Gar laying mines suffer a direct hit from 6 PC on patrol duty. Despite on fire, it will reach Pearl 3 days later. On 9th january, SS Dolphin is attacked 2 times in a row, suffer 2 direct hits of depth charge, and manage to reach Pearl.
On 10th january, 5eBG is schedulded to attack Johnston airfield, but don't fly, and dont either on the 11th. On 12th, 27 B-17E finally aim the airfield at 7000ft. The encounter with 27 Zero (land based, from name of Datai), lead to destruction of 2 zero for 9 flying-fortress, and 17 damaged...(who is the lucky crew wich came back unharmed??).

SoPac
Lark Battalion, already attached to SouthPac HQ, and thus free of PP, start to evacuate the vicinity of Rabaul by subs evacs.
In Brisbane, despite low levels of supplies, a small AK load 4500 supplies for Port Moresby, wich is in dire need.

China
Over Changsa, chinese sqadron are no match for the Zero or Oscar, and suffer heavy losses. They leave the airbattefield free for the japs divebombers pouding the city. The airwar in China cost 8 allied planes for 1 jap. On ground, artillery duel with great advantage for the japs: 2700 chinese casualties for 450 japanese.

Philippinas
Just north of Naga, 41e and 51e PA Div try to shut the road to Manila. Constant pounding by Sallys and Ann shater the units: the counterattack they launch on 7th january is a failure, heavily repulsed. On the 9th, the japanese army launch an attack wich immediately succeed, forcing the philippinos units to retreat, opening the road to Manila. On the 12th, the suburb of Philippinas capital is reached. 7 japanese bombers are loosed to the flack above the city.

Malaya
On 6th january, RAF tried to close Khota Bharu airfield. 13 sorties are made by hudson and Blenheim, and although AVG (back from Rangoon) provide escort, many RAF bombers are damaged by Nate and Oscar.
Georgetown suffer hundred of casualties from air attack, but Flack still manage to down a few jap bombers. On the 7th january, 3 japs regiment attack and drop fort level to 4. On the 8th, the place surrender, leading 19000 british soldier in captivity (and maybe draw them to River Kwai ).
Johore Bharu is now the next target of the japanese power. AVG is not strong enough to protect the place, and tangle with Oscar and Zero. Some sorties by few RAF bombers don't slow the pace of 5e,18e DI and 35e bde. The FMSV bde, keeping the north of Johore, is strongly repulsed on the 10th, having buyed a single day of delay. Hopefully, Johore fort are at level 6.

DEI
On 6th january, CL Nagara and 9DD shell Amboine, but too close ! CD Gun fire back and damage 2 japs DD. Thus, the japs will now raid the place by air !
6th january, the BB TF near Toboali sail south, near Pamakasan. 30 sorties by T IV, B-17C, Vildebeest from Soerebaja score no hits, 4 planes are lost. 9 sorties on the 7th give no result on this TF now at Bali.
Near Lombock, another jap surface TF is targeted by the small Hudson squadron in Koepang (6 planes), and DD Yuzuki suffer a bomb hit, but escape SS K XVIII.
At Padan, 5 dutch and british MSW suffer from a stupid mistake of allied supreme cretin (once more, but stay tuned, there will be plenty others) : the Home port set for Colombo, theses ships sail near Sumatra; 36 Nells from Khota trash them and sink them all. Please aplause the incompetent dumb leading the allied forces.
On 6th January still, a jap unit is spotted on Borneo coast, north of Singkawang: this is the result of no HR about landing on base. It is a surprise , and i think that Jap HQ want to avoid CD Gun wherever it is possible. This open opportunities for the future.... The hudson and Martin squadron in Singkawang and Kuching target them, but few results are made. The TF having probably laid them escape unscathed from 21 sorties in 2 days.

Burma
Rangoon port is bombed. On the 12th january, Rangoon, empty of any allied unit, switch side and enter the Great Coprosperity Sphere. British citizen are hunted, his Majesty's governor hanged, and a local dictatorship await it's japanese friends. This is the result of allied supreme HQ not understanding the ZOC mechanics). Now badly supplied, the 2 burmese brigades defending the Salween River must react...

Indian Ocean
And now gentlemens, the climax of this week !
With 2 japanese TF west of Bali, RN decided to concentrate it's assets. CVL Hermes, arrived from Ceylon, give cover to Force Z, and the 2 TF retreat farther in wide ocean.
On 8th january, the jap BB TF enter Indian Ocean from Bali. Targeted from Soerebaja by T IV and B-17, this TF suffer no hit and damage 11 planes. The shipping lanes between Java and India are about to be closed: no more unit's escape, no more supplies for Java or Singapore. The japanese raiders start to hunt AK escaping north, and probably hoping to catch the Royal Navy.
On the night of 12th January, 2 big surface fleet clash. BB Kongo, Haruna, Mutsu, CA Takao, Chokai, Mogami, Mikuma, Suzuya, Kumano, CL Jintsu, and 12DD face BB Prince of Wales, BC Repulse, CL Java, De Ruyter (wich is among my familly ancestor's), Tromp, Danae, Dragon, Durban, Mauritius and 12 DD.
In the first minutes of engagement, Prince of Wales score a direct 14' shot on Kongo. DD Hibiki and Ikazuchi suffer torpedoes hit and burn. On allied side, Durban took a torpedo hit, Mauritius endure 3 8' hit and it's magazine explodes, DD Alden and Van Ghent are on fire.
A mist separate the 2 TF for a short time, but before dawn, a second clash occur.
BC Repulse suffer 2 shell hits, De Ruyter is on fire, Java and Tromp are burning, Dragon sink, Mauritius fall out of line burning like hell (66 fires). On the japanese side, Kongo suffer 3 shell hits, none from big guns, but seem to burn. Haruna suffer 8 shell hits and a torp. Hibiki, striken by a 6' shell retire from fight, and the Ikazuchi, although not hit now, sink from previous damage.
In the morning, the small Swordfish sqadron from Hermes attack Haruna and score a torpedo hit.
At least, admirality is happy to give a real fight, as the allied battleships are (for the moment) in good shape.

gladiatt -> RE: No Tittle yet (11/2/2009 2:03:02 PM)

13th January - 19th January

CentPac
On 19th, a japanese AK is reported to hit a mine at Johnston. Nothing else on this front.

SoPac
16th January, a TF of 8 DD try to depth charge SS Permit near Rabaul: it's the first attempt by the japs to stop the evac of the australians units retreating from Rabaul.
16th January, 9 Zero and 9 kate from an unseen CV raid Port Moresby; 3 of the 6 wirraways on CAP are downed. AK Adelong suffer 5 bombs hits before unloading it's supplies. It sunk on the 17th after another attack with torpedoes from Kate. Their home carrier, CVE Ryujo, is spotted near Gili Gili. 6 Hudson and 12 Beaufort attack this carrier, but the zeros on CAP destroy 3 bombers, wich obtain no hits. On the 18th, this TF had diseappear.

China
Changsa is under a daily bombardement. The I-16 of 27th CFS sometime refuse to fly, but when they take the air, they suffer losses for no results. Trying to use these planes in another way, the I-16 are ordered to straffe the japs units; the japanese gunners are skillfull, and down 5 of the russian planes; no more straff is ordered.
Many others base are bombed on a daily basis.

Philippinas
Manilla is besieged by 51000 japanese soldiers and 480 guns (facing 28000 allieds soldiers and 200 guns). The japanese planes bomb Manila or Clark daily.
On the 18th, a new japanese ground army cross the river east of Clark (does someone know the river's name ??). The 48e Div and 3 arty units shock attack at 0/1 odds, and suffer 2600 casualties for 180 allies. Hopping for high disruption of the attackers units, Mac Arthur HQ decide to launch a counter attack on the 19th. This one, lead by 4th USMC RCT and 31e US RCT manage to repulse the japs, causing 480 casualties for 65 on their own.

Malaya
13th January, at Johore : the aerial battle is fierce. 130+ japanese bombers, escorted with 34 Oscar face 6 Buffalos and 3 P-40 of AVG/A; 2 buff and 3 P-40 are destroyed for 2 Oscar. The allied bombers try to disrupt the japanese 35th Bde closing to Johore. 21 Zero and 5 nate fight 9 P-40 and 2 buffalos escorting 7 Blenheims. 2 Nates are destroyed for 4 P-40 and 2 bombers.
Still 13th january, an AK in sink by Nells while entering Singapore harbor....still no supllies for the base.
On 14th January, 9 Nells come alone in Singapore against 8 P-40 of AVG. 6 are destroyed, but the 3 survivors manage a perfect 100% rate ! 3 torps hit and sunk AK Ampire Latimer (and still no supplies in the town).
On 16th, 2 more AK coming from Palembang try to enter Singapore. They are attacked by 19 Nells protected by 27 Zeros. 3 buff and 7 P-40 on LRCAP face them; 3 buff and 4 P-40 are downed, the bombers get through and sink 1 of the AK, badly damaging the other, wich is finished the next day by I-121.
17th January, at Johore, 150 sallys and Lilys escorted by 34 Oscar down 2 of the 4 buff on CAP, destroy 2 Blenheim on ground, and damage the runway. The RAF bombers are based at Singapore, hopping for the Flack to protect them (may be...).

DEI
13TH january, at Lombock, AK Benkalis and AP Mijer, trying to escape Java for Australia are sink by 40 sorties of Nell from Kendari.
14th, a TF with CL Isuzu is cruising near Singkawang....trying to supplie the 81st Nav Guard unit north of the dutch base? Bringing another unit ? 22 sorties by Martins or Vildebeest score no hits; one plane is destroyed.
The same day, the new deploiement of ABDA Swordfish give incredible results: CVE Tayo, sailing near Balikpapan, is attacked by 6 swordfish escorted by 4 brewster. The dutch fighter sacrifice themselves fighting 5 Claude and 16 Zero on CAP; loosing 3 of them. But the swordfish manage to hit the carrier with 3 torpedoes. The ABDA HQ will wait, with anxiety and hope, 4 days, until on 18th january: a radio call is catch, the CVE sunked near Menado !

But the japanese assets continue to put pressure against the allies.
On 14th, a convoy heading for Singapore reach Batavia, but is spotted and attacked by many Nells. 3 of the AK, heavily damaged, dock in Batavia, to save a part of their load (supplies).
On 14th January always; a japanese oiler is spotted near Bali. It is probably going to refuel the japanese TF sailing in Indian Ocean. Sadly, no LBA attack, no sub manage to catch it.
West of Java, a TF with CA Haguro, Kinugasa, Myoko, Aoba escape unscathed from a raid of 11 Vildebeest, 6 martins, 3 B-17 and 2 Blenheim. 2 vildebeest are destroyed by flack.
The next day, this TF is closing to Tjilitjap. Another allied raid gather 4 swordfish, 7 vildebeest, 5 TIV and 21 others level bombers Haguro suffer 2 bomb hits that bounce harmlessly on it's armor; the lack of result lead the allied HQ in despair.
Many allied AK are hits by bombs in the various ports of Java, the dutch CAP being useless.
17th January, the last AK from the convoy defeated in Batavia come near Singapore; it is covered by a LRCAP of 3 buff and 12 P-40; they face 23 Zero and 28 Nells. 4 P-40 are destroyed for 3 Zeros and 1 Nell, and the AK is sunked, once more before reaching the base now on severe diet of supplies.
18th January at Bali, another jap TF is aimed by allied LBA flying from Soerebaja. 22 TB and 28 LB manage to score a bomb hit on DD Uzuki (on a TF of 5 DD spotted).
On 19th, luck is on allied side: 60 Bettys and Nells attack Soerebaja without fighter cover. 15 P-40 of 24FG intercept, and destroy 11 of the bombers for 2 allied planes destroyed on ground and slight damages to the base.

Burma
17th January, 24 ann bombed the 1st Burma Bde defending north shore of Salween River. The british gunners are in a good day and down 3 planes.
Andaman reach level 1 fort. Come on guys, there is much more work to do !!!
On 15th, Rangoon is taken back by 2nd Burma Bde, wich then head back toward the Salwenn front. But on 18th, japanese units are spotted crossing the river just north of Raheng, on a undefended point, outflanking the line of defense. The 1st Burma Bde withdraw north, to keep the fords of the Irrawady River.

On 17th january, the first raid on Mandalay: 24 Zero, 18 Oscar and 16 Nell face 15 Hurricanes. 2 Oscar are destroyed for 11 Hurricanes and 4 Blenheim on ground. Allied headquarter was really hopping on the capabilities of the Hurricane, wich was a real deceipt.

Indian Ocean
After the battle of 12th january, Royal Navy tried to avoid surface contact with the japanese, feeling that their TF could not stand against a force of 3BB and many CA. But the task was to protect the convoy escaping north toward Colombo.
13th january, the swordfish of CVL Hermes miss CL Sendai but score a torpedo hit against DD Shikinami. In the afternoon, BB Mutsu is targeted but no hits are scored.
14th, CL Sendai, CL Nagara and 13 DD manage to find CL Durban and DD Alden wich were trying to reach the harbor of Tjilitjap after their heavy damages of the battle of the 12th. Both are sink, along with a TK and 2 AK. North of this ambush, 4 swordfish of Hermes loose one plane to the flack of Mutsu, for no result.
15th, the sqadron is depleted to 3 planes. They still fly missions. One of them is destroyed attacking CA Chokai. No hits.
16th, CA Mogami avoid an attack of 3 planes (one had been repaired on board the CVL). No hits.
17th, 2 swordfish are able to fly, but one of them strike CA Takao with a torpedoe.
Farther north, the main battlefleet of Royal Navy and the escorted convoys (plural) sail at reduce speed, fuel being now a great worry.
On 19th january, the last 2 swordfish of CVL Hermes launch an attack on BB Mutsu, scoring a torp hit wich set the ship afire (or so it seem), but one of the planes is destroyed. The lone surviving pilots will make it with it's ship to Colombo in a few day....but destiny will come call him later....

JeffroK -> RE: No Tittle yet (11/2/2009 10:10:19 PM)

Keep going Gladiatt,

Your losses are not too bad for this stage of the war. Dont risk too much, but dont give away too much, easy isnt it[:D]

Warning, playing with the very vanilla level map, many japanese find it easier to land at Milne Bay/Gili Gili and march up the Freeway to Port Moresby rather than the always risky, and ship intensive amphibious landing.

20TH JANUARY - 26TH JANUARY

CentPac

On 22th january, west of San Francisco, japanese I-16 manage to escape from an ASW TF of 6 US DD.

SoPac
After a few days of aerial bombardement by some Nells and Betty flying from Rabaul, Lunga is captured on 25th january by 61st Nav Guard, Maizuru 2e SNLF and a NLF unit.

China

Nanning and Changsa are under japanese aerial bombardement on a daily basis. From time to time a divebomber is shot down by the chinese AA gunners.
On 22th january, the japanese 16th Army, gathering 250.000 mens and 2500 guns (11 divisions, 2 brigades, a tak reg, 5 arty) attack the 120.000 chinese defenders (11 corps and a Div). The forts are dropped from 6 to level 5. The losses are 8200 casualties and 237 guns for the japanese, 3000 casualties and 140 guns for the chinese. Chang Kei Chek HQ was hopping for a lot of disruption among the attackers, but the attack continue on the 23th of january. But with a 0/1 odd, this assaut fail (with 6300 japanese casualties for 3500 chinese). On the south of Changsa, the 13th japanese Tank Regiment alone fail an attempt to outflank the chinese city, it's attack against 4th chinese corps going nowhere.
On the 24th january, the japanese army resume it's bombardement attack, and on 25th january, a twelve jap division is spotted besieging the place.

In north China, 18 japs units are sighted closing to Yenen. With few corps present to defend the place, it is expected to fail much quicker then the southern base.

The 23th January will prove a day of maximum effort on the japanese side....

Philippinas
On 20th january, the japanese launch a deliberate attack on Manila. 52000 japanese soldiers try to overwhelm the 29000 allied defenders. But they are repulsed with losses (1200 japanese casualties for 400 allied); but sadly with the game mechanics, theses casualties are mainly disabled rather then KIA.
After this failure and a few days of rest, the japanese give another try on 23th january, but once again the attack is repulsed ; this time the losses are heavier for the defenders (700 japanese against 1100 allied).
Under constant bombardement, the philippinos units hold for now.

Malaya

On 21th January, a huge force of 23 Zero, 35 Oscar and 160 bombers attack Singapore harbor. The defense take off to fight them: 3 buffalos and 8 P-40B. 2 buff and 4 P-40 are destroyed , for 3 Oscar and 1 Sally. Moderate damages on the port, but 4 hits on supply.
On 22th another attack gather 31 Oscar and 130 bombers. They face 6 buff and 4 P-40; 1 oscar is downed for 3 buff and 1 P-40. Another 4 hits on supply is reducing the amount in the base, already scarce.
On 22th, 100.000 japanese (5e and 18e Div, 3 regiments, a bde, 2 eng reg) start the siege of Johore defended by 25.000 british troops.
On 23tj january, 14 Zero escort 22 Nells attacking an AK trying to bring supplies in Singapore, but 3 torpedoe sunk it. The CAP of 11 buffalos and 6 P-40 of AVG manage to destroy 1 zero and 1 Nell without losses.

On the 23th, as everywhere in the pacific, the japanese launch an attack on Johore. Although getting an odd of 0/1 and 3 times more casualties (990 japanese for 390 allied), the 2 japanese eng reg reduce the forts from 6 to 5.

On 25th january, once more, the allies send an AK inbound for Singapore. Under constant sighting from the air, this one is catch by 26 Nells escorted by 16 Zero. AK Empire Lynx is sunk outright. The CAP of 10 buffalos and 8 P-40 down 2 zeros for the losses of 1 buffalo and 1 P-40.

DEI

20th january, Tarakan is taken by surprise by a shock attack of Imperial Guard Division crossing theriver south of the base: the unit has walked, unspotted, after a landing on non-base shores the previous week: the TF had been spotted by my patrol planes, but there was no clue of what was happening. The base is captured along with 900 mens, one squadron of Do-24 and one of T IVa are destroyed on ground. The intel the following days showes only 2 points of damages on the oil field.

On the 20th, DD Hibiki, limping back from the battle of 12th in Indian Ocean, sinked before reaching Kendari (and at this time, i felt so sorry for Cuttlefish [;)] ). On the 21th, it's DD Shikinami wich sink in these waters, also from the damages received the previous week in the same battle.

After a few bombing raids, Bali fall without warning on 22th january: i didn't saw an incoming TF, i didn't spott any unit on the ground ! A small squadron of 4 FK-51 awaiting enough PP to be transfered to Australia is destroyed on ground. 1000 mens are prisonners.
ABDA decide to shut (if possible) this base before it bring too much damages on Java.
On 24th january, 24 Blenheims destroy 4 naval bombers and 2 Zero on the runway. On the 25th, the raid gather 25 P-40 OF 24th FG and 8 Blenheim of 62th sqd, and face a CAP of 8 Zero and 4 Nates. 1 P-40 is destroyed for 1 zero, 3 Nates and 3 Nells and Betty.
On 26th , 26 P-40, 20 B-17, 14 Blenheims face 18 Zeros and 3 Nates. 2 Zeros and 3 Nates are destroyed for 11 P-40 and 1 Blenheim, and only slight damages are made to the airfield.

South of Java, on 22th, 7 Hudson from Koepang attack BB Yamashiro ad Hyuga. This one is hit by an harmless bomb. This TF is probably some HEAVY reinforcement for the surface TF hunting the Royal Navy in Indian Ocean. On the 26th, this TF come near to Malang. 17 sorties by Martins score no hits.

Also south of Java, a TF with a TK (probably an AO) slip past Bali; 32 sorties by british torpedoes bombers score no hits....

25th january, south of Kendari, CVE Hosho is attacked from Koepang by 6 Hudson and 3 Brewster. The CAP of 5 zero down 3 bombers. CVE Hosho is supposed to have been seen on fire after a bomb hit.

North of Singkawang, the 81st Naval Guard Unit wich was put ashore of the base is bombed and straffed by Hudson from Kuching and Brewster of Singkawang. But he amount of casualties on this unit is not even 80 in the whole week.
But this annoy the jap, wich start heavy bombing on the base of Singkawang, destroying many planes on ground, and prooving that the Nell is a better fighter then the Demon (shoting down one of them [8|] ).

On 26th january, Toboali is captured. There is a huge amount of supply here that the jap have seized, and this base now threaten even more the area.

Burma

Daily raid on Mandalay lead to the losses of 1 Nell, 7 Oscar and 1zero for 29 Hurricane II, very disapointing for allied headquarter.

After the 2nd Burma Bde leave Rangoon, once more the place switch side to be japanese. Once more the brigade march backward, taken it back on 25th january.

Indian Ocean

West of Sumatra, on 20th january, a TF of CA Chokai, Mogami, Mikuma, Suzuya, Kumano, CL Sendai, Jintsu and Nagara and 16 DD catch and sink 3 MSW and 2AP.
The same day, the lone swordfish of CVL Hermes find another japanese TF and score a torpedo hit on CA Takao, now on fire.
On 22th, Doorman's TF catch the lone DD Arashi and sink it in a few minutes.

On 24th, CV Indomitable, wich just appear in Karachi, is ordered to sprint south, without escort (nothing avalaible ), to protect the Royal Navy in Indian Ocean....

25th january, Seagull of the US Ships in Doorman's TF spot AO Iro. This is now clear that at least one oiler has reached and refueled the several japanese ships lurking in Indian Ocean. On the contrary, the royal Navy can only refuel at Ceylon.
The 25th, Doorman's manage to catch the japanese Replenishement TF.
BB PoW, Repulse, CA Houston, 4CL and 11DD face CS Mizuho, 4 DD, 2 PC and AO Iro.
The japanese escort took a severe beating: CS Mizuho, DD hagikaze and 1 PC are sunked, but the AO escape without harm !
A few hours later, Doorman engage CA Takao, but this one suffer only 15 shell of small caliber hits, and the cruiser escape.

26th january is a day of fierce fighting....
In the night, another British surface TF engage a japanese TF.
BB Revenge, Royal Sovereign, CA Dorsetshire, 2CL and 7 DD agaisnt CA Chokai, Mogami, Mikuma, Suzuya, Kumano, CL Sendai, Jintsu, 16 DD; the CA Dorsetshire, CL Dauntless and 2 DD are set on fire; CA Kumano is on fire, along with a jap DD and another one badly damaged.
A bit south, 2 others TF clash: BB PoW, Repulse, CA Houston, CL Java, Ruyter, Tromp, Boise and 11 DD against CA Myoko, Haguro, Nachi, Aoba, Kinugasa, Furutaka and 10 DD.
Ruyter and 4 allied DD are sunk, Prince of Wales suffer 11 shell and 2 torpedoes hit. All japanese cruiser except Kinugasa are on fire and damaged.
The following morning, 11 Nells flying from Kuantan find PoW and score 2 torpedoes hit on the ship. Admiral Doorman follow the ship beneath the waves...
Latter in the day, the TF of BB Revenge engage CA Chokai TF but the 2 forces withdraw quickly with only slight damaged.

The japanese are trying to shut all shipping lanes in Indian Ocean, and although the Royal Navy suffer, the Allied HQ is pleased with the fact that japanese navy start to sustain some damages and some losses.
Another thing : why do we need carriers ? Old battleships are doing most of the fight as was intended in dreadnought time ( [;)] ).

27 TH JANUARY - 31 TH JANUARY

Yes, dear readers, you now ask yourself, why is he shortening the lenght of time ? Weeks of 5 days ??
Well, first, i am a french public worker: work is only 5 days in a week [:D][;)] and "we" are reknown to work only what is schedulded (and paid).
Second: this way, i will not take the risk to give much informations to the evil side.

CentPac

30th January, SS I-8 escape an ASW TF near Pearl, and escape another time on the following day....grrrr.
The same day, I-23 is find by another ASW TF, always near Pearl. This sub suffer a direct hit, and is on fire.
31th january, Johnston Island is targeted by 69 B-17 from 5th and 39th BG, along with Coronados for reccon. 20 Zero on CAP can't reach the bombers flying at maximum ceiling. But the flack damage 1 coronado and 3 bombers (one will not come back home). Damages on the airfield are so slight that i don't even remenber it.

SoPac

On 27th january, despite a CAP of 4 Wirraways, 7 Nells and Bettys attack an AK in Port Moresby, scoring no hits and suffering no losses.
Near Thursday Island, the same day, SS RO-61 score a torpedo hit against DD Sand wich was hunting it. The DD will reach Townsville heavily damaged, and will fight against flooding for weeks !

China

The bleeding of the Chinese Fighter Squadron above Changsa keep going, with no results on japanese divebombers. The losses are inflicted by the AA Guns.

27th january, the japanese army reach Yenen. 5 chinese corps face 6 japanese divisions, 3 brigades, a cav unit and 3 artillery. The bombardement cause heavy losses: 500 chinese casualties the first day ! Ouch [X(].
And on 29th, the first attack is launch against Yenen. 170.000 japanese soldiers against 52.000 chinese. Odds 0/1. Fort drop from level 3 to 2. Casualties 3800 japanese for 1100 chinese. On the 31 th january, reinforcement arrive on japanese side: 6 mongols cavalry divisions and 3 brigades....north of China is to fall in a few days....

At Changsa, heavy artillery bombardement are every day on the chinese line of defense.
On the 28th, the japanese 13th Tank Regiment alone try to outflank Changsa, attacking a lone corps south of the city. But the well timed arrival of a second chinese corps give a halt to the tanks.
On the 31th january, the japanese receive a 13th division to besiege Changsa.

PI

29th january: under daily bombing, the gunners of Manila manage on this day to shot 3 japanese bombers.
The Catalina Squadron in Bataan is send in Singapore: they will help patrol the Java Sea, and are nearly useless in Philippines.
On the 30th january, the allied realized that the jap 48th Div is no more on the north part of Luzon, facing Clark: it is now besieging Manila, after probably a sea transport to shift front. There are now 70.000 japanese soldiers besieging the place.
On this date, willing to save supplies, all allied units are ordered to NOT bombard the japanese units, as the results where so slight.

Malaya

The japanese airforce exerce (sorry guy, is it an englsih word?????) a total closure of the sea lanes inbound or outbound of Singapore. Nells and Bettys sink in these 5 days 5 AK trying to supply the base. The AVG fight well trying to CAP the ships, but the buffalos are not worthy and suffer many losses. The japanese lost a few planes.

With the help of the incoming US Catalina squadron escaped from Bataan that start patroling, the british squadron of Catalina I (reduce to 4 planes) change it's mission: evacuate fragments of units toward Batavia or Palembang.
In the same time, transport planes (Lodestar, Lockheed 212, Martins) try to airlift supplies in Singapore from place like Palembang, Kuala, Riouw or Bankha. Each day, several planes are intercepted by the japanese CAP; in the whole month of january, no less then 27 transport planes are downed this way. The estimated amount of supplies bring in Singapore by planes is 250 points. Very few, but better then nothing.

On 29th january, the japanese launch an attack on Johore. 110.000 attackers face the 25.000 defenders. Forts are reduced to level 5, but the place hold because of a well timed reinforcement by 12th Indian Brigade coming from Singapore (where it was on reserve).
Losses: 2400 japanese to 400 allied.
Johore had just buy a few more time.
The buffalos flying CAP from Singapore above Johore pay an heavy toll: 7 are lost in 3 days for only 1 oscar downed.

DEI

On 27th january, a first allied raid strike Toboali airfield, but the 20 dutch/british LBA only inflict slight damages. The next day, Zero are on CAP and down 2 brewster. The allied LBA achieve no results. A Martin groep start bombing at night, but in 4 days achive no results. On 30th, the CAP of Zero down 8 bombers, and 1 more on 31th. Toboali is too well defended for the weak allied LBA.

On 27th january, Bali is attacked by 13 Blenheim and 20 B-17 with 20 P-40 escort, against 13 Zero and 3 Nates. For the losses of 1 P-40, the allies destroy 1 Zero, 2 Bettys/Nells and 4 runway hits. On the 28th, the 24th FG manage to destroy 1 Zero and 2 nates for no losses, but the airfield is unharmed.

West of Java, 35 sorties of Martins score no hits on a surface TF with BB Fuso and Nagato. No hits on the ships, 7 planes damaged and 1 destroy by flack.

At Balikpapan, the brewster prove useless: the sallys from Tarakan raid dayly, suffer moderate damage from flack only. The base suffer moderate damages, and several allied planes are destroyed on ground or in the air.

Koepang is targeted on 28th and 29th january by Nells flying from Kendari. A dutch pilot on a brewster manage to shot a Nell [X(][&o] !

On 30th january, empty Samarindra is captured by 2 japanese division walking from Tarakan along the coastal road.
KB is spotted north of Timor on 30th january, and is south of Lautern on 31th (see screenshot, to be add). It seem now clear that the japanese navy want to crush the allied ships in Indian Ocean.

The aerial pounding of Singkawang keep on all the week. The CW-Demon don't manage to shot anything. Many planes are destroyed on ground. A depleted Martin Squadron evacuate to Palembang to merge in another depleted groep after the bloody attack on Toboali.

31th january at Soerebaja, an air raid occur: 7 Zero, 30 Nells and 13 Bettys versus 4 Hawk75A and 15 P-40 of 24th FG. 1 Hawk, 4 P-40 and 5 LBA (on ground) are lost, for 1 Zero, 6 Nells and 3 Bettys. Not so bad ! Runway suffer damages, reducing the speed to build forts.

Burma

Raids on Mandaly cost 6 japanese planes for 2 allieds.
On 28th january, Mandaly reach level 3 forts, wich is not bad, starting at 0 on beginning of the game.

29th , the 33rd jap div cross the Irrawady and shock attack the 1st Burma Bde, wich hold ! Odds 0/1; casualties 1700 japs and 26 allies.
On the 30th, the jap keep pressure and launch a new shock attack, but the arrival of 2nd Burma Bde from Rangoon manage to hold the line. Odds 0/1. Casualties 680 japs for 14 allies.
On the 31th, the two burma brigades, hopping the japs could be heavily disrupted, launch a counterattack, but it fail. Odds 0/1. Casualties 20 japs/410 british. The two allied units cautiously retreat north.
On 31th, Rangoon once again switch to the japanese side, this time for good.

Indian Ocean

On 28th january, West of Java, CL Sumatra (wich appear as reinforcement 2 days before in Soerebaja), trying to escape the DEI, run into a jap TF of 7DD and AO Iro. After 50 shells hits and 1 torp, the dutch light cruiser sink, but it had set a japanese DD on fire.

On 29th january, CV Indomitable has sprint close enough of the rest of the british fleet to cover it's retreat. 17 Swordfish attack TF of CA Chokai, Mogami, Kumano (1 torp hit) and Kinugasa (1 torpedo hit and on fire).
In the night of 30th january, the british CV gather with a few DD to provide escort. And in the morning of 30th january, 10 Swordfish score 2 torpedoes on CA Suzuya (see next post for the screenshot).

This is KB sighted

gladiatt -> Bettys in the sky with diamonds (11/9/2009 12:38:42 PM)

1ST FEBRUARY - 5TH FEBRUARY

CentPac
Surprise occur at Pearl Harbor with a night air attack of 15 Bettys on 1st february. They score no result but the alarm bell is ringed in Hawai. The next night, 24 Mohawk try to act as night fighters but can't manage to find 6 Bettys making another raid. The flack is more accurate and down 1 of the bomber. The raid stop after this.

On 2nd februrary, SS Tambor fire a torpedo against a TF of 4 DD at Jonhston, but it is a dud.....subs will have to wait a long time before using reliable weapons.

SoPac
On 2nd february, the 2nd Marines Division arrive in Noumea to defend the place. Latter i will thank myself for this move.
On 3rd February, Lunga, in japanese hands, reach airfield size 1, and on 5th february, it is Gili Gili airfield wich expand to size 1. From now on, the japanese can patrol and control the Solomons, but there is nothing i can do against it.

China
The chinese pilots, with their Polikarpov, can't match the Oscar. Trying from time to time to protect the sky of Changsa, they suffer many losses in the week (9) but manage to down a Nate and a Babs. I suppose this is not bad for chinese squadrons.
The assaut value of the japanese at Changsa now rise to 5400 (against 3500 chinese), so i decided to drive attention of the japs elsewhere. 3 actions are undertaken.
- an attack on Kaifeng; another on Hsyniang, and one on Pakhoi.
After 2 days of battles, the base force in Kaifeng is repulsed by the chinese; they withdraw as soon as a japanese unit is sighted closing from Peking, but had pillaged the small amount of supplies in the base. Hsyniang is a failure; he base hold against a lone chinese corps, and on the 5th february, 8 japanese units seem to come close, so once again the corps withdraw. The goal is OK: the japanese assaut value on Changsa has dropp to 3700.
The attack on Pakhoi is another failure, an attack by 3 corps is severely repulsed by the 3 japanse tank regiments warding the port.

On 2nd february, Yenen sustain an attack: 4700 japanese casualties for 1100 chinese, and for now, the place hold. But for how long ?

PI
Daily bombing of Manila, place still holding.

Malaya

1st february, heavy aerial bombing on Johore is followed by a failed deliberate attack wich nonetheless reduce fort to level 4. Casualties 1200 japs for 600 allied.
On 3rd , 35 Oscar and 100 bombers face 3 buffalos and 8 P-40 of AVG/C; 3 oscar and 1 sally are destroyed for 3 buffalos. A new attack the same day reduce fort to level 3. Casualties 1300 japaneses, 320 allieds.
On 4th, another attack reduce fort to level 2. And on 5th february, still a deliberate attack reduce fort to level 1. Odds 1/1; 1400 japanese casualties for 370 allies. For allied HQ, it is very good news, and no one would have bet on such a delay here !

On the 4th, 2 AK docked and repairing for weeks in Singapore try to use bad weather (thunderstorms) to sneak out of base, one with a base force and the other with resources, but the Nells keep flying with such a weather, and sink both.

DEI
Balikpapan is attacked by air the whole week, while the japanese division wlak from Samarindra toward the place. The Oscar provide perfect cover for the Sallys and against the brewster, many are downed for no japanese losses.
On 2nd february, Singkawang is captured by the 81 Nav Guard Unit, and force the dutch 11th base force to retreat toward Pontianak.

Soerebaja is an aerial battlefield where Bettys and Nells with Zero escort tangle against dutch fighter (useless) and a bunch of P-40 from 24th FG. The week cost 9 hawk/demons; 9 P-40 and 7 LBA to the allies, for 6 Zeros and 9 Nells/bettys.

On 4th february, south-west of Java, 15 Blenheim spot and attack a TF with 2 PG and 2 AO, but score no hits (raising scream of anger in allied HQ !). Then, CA Takao, heavily damaged from the battles in Indian Ocean is spotted in the area. 13 Blenheim of the same squadron attack and score no hits.
5th february is another day of frustration: 20 Blenheim sneak the CAP of 4 Zeros but score no hits on a TF of damaged cruisers: CA Haguro, Furutaka,Aoba and Takao.

Burma
The 2 burmese brigades retrait toward Mandalay under aerial bombardement, but the AA Gunners manage to destroy 2 anns.

Indian Ocean
On 1st february, CV Indomitable is still covering the retreat of Royal Navy.
12 Swordfish launch an attack on a heavy surface TF; 2 planes are destroyed, all others damaged but BB Yamashiro and BB Hyuga each suffer a torpedo hit !
After this, it seem thee jap surface fleet don't pursue anymore, waiting for the incoming of the KB (please insert music of Star Wars: the Imperial March ).
KB, sailing at cruise speed to save fuel (?), is on 5th february, at Tjilitjap lattitude. But nothing can really stop it !

gladiatt -> Bettys in the sky with diamonds (11/12/2009 7:19:40 PM)

6TH FEBRUARY - 10 TH FEBRUARY

CentPac
On 6th february, 41 Flying Fortress of 39th BG try to bomb Jonhston Island, avoiding the Zero by flying at max ceiling. A coronado flying a recon mission along is destroyed by the flack; the raid had no results.
On 9th february, SS I-16 is spotted near Pearl, and attacked by 6 MSW on ASW duty, but escape with no hurt.

SoPac
7th february, Gili Gili is targeted by 6 Hudsons and 5 brand new A-20 Boston of 2/22 RAAF squadron. No results. A new attack on the 8th give no more results.
On the 10th, first results (although weak): Runway hits 2. That won't slow down the japanese engineers, but that's all i can do by now. Things will be differents in a few years.
On the 8th, Lunga airfield expand to level 2; This is rising pretty quickly, the japs must have gather a lot of engineers at this base.

China
Daily bombing runs by japanese bombers and fighters training on various bases.
On the 9th, the japanese launch an attack on Yenen and reduce forts to level 3; it cost 5900 casualties to japaneses, for 1000 chineses. On the 10th, the attack keep on, reducing fort to level 2. Losses 2100 japaneses, 1500 chineses. To my own surprise, the city held once more. It's fate is obvious, but buying time is important to me.

PI
Manila is under constant bombing by air or ground. Supply level steadily decreasing. A Kate was shot down this week, but many others are training on allied troops.

Malaya
6th february, Johore fall after a fierce fight of 5 days, wich in a way, please the allies HQ and General Ludlow of Malaya Army (did i tell you that Percival was fired in the first days of the war ?).
But Singapore forts are only 65% to level 8. And the japanese soldiers don't give time to rise them: on the 9th february, they cross the strait leading to Singapore, launching a shock attack. Hopefully it fail at odd 0/1 with 2700 japanese casualties and 700 allies.
Hoping for high disruption of the japanese units, the birtish counter attack with a shock attack on the 10th, but it fail with 900 allies casualties for 100 japanese. That is a bad news, meaning the siege can't be broken now. Question is : how long can the place hold ?? Well, it will hold much more then expected, stay tuned...

In the air, AVG is facing terrible odds against Zeros and Oscar, but still give a fight, destroying 11 planes for the losses of 3 P-40 and 5 lba on ground.
2 AK trying to bring supplies from Batavia are sunk by Nells/Bettys in the vicinity.

DEI

On 6th february, a first night raid occur on Soerebaja, with no results. Soon, these raids follow, each night. Some dutch fighters try to intercept, in vain). Flack cause slight damages to the japanese bombers, and base sustain slight damages from theses bombers.
But raid alos occur during daylight. On 6 and 7th, 2 air attacks on Soerebaja lead to the losses of 4 scrappy dutch fighters and 5 P-40, 9 Zeros and 4 japs LBA.
So the japs decide to sweep the base. On 9th and 10th february, for the losses of 2 zeros, 24th FG loose 6 P-40.

On 6th, a raid on Batavia by 13 Nells face 6 dutch fighters, wich score no hits, but Flack destroy 3 japs planes. The dutch fighters are disapointing assets, and it seem i can rely only on flack. On the 9th, 3 AK coming from India suffer many damages from Nells, and must dock in the harbor to prevent loosing the supplies, wich was bound for Singapore....

South of Java, a TF of damaged japanese cruisers is spotted on the 5th (see previous post), and attacked twice the 6th february.
In the morning 12 Swordfish and 23 Blenheims manage to score 1 bomb and 1 torpedo hit on CA Furutaka, and no less than 5 torpedoes on CA Haguro !!
The afternoon raid miss CA Takao limping slowly out of range of the allies bombers, but CA Furutaka suffer 3 bombs hits and 1 torpedoe. The two cruisers are doomed and sink a few hours later.
On 7th, near Bali, another raid is targetting a TF of 8 PC/PG. 13 zeros on CAP down 2 allied fighters and 4 bombers out of 32 bombers. A PC suffer 2 torpedos hits and sink.

In Borneo, Balikpapan fall to the japanese hands after less than 3 hours of fight, the 2 divisions ( 16th and Imperial) overwhelming the 3 dutch battalions, proving that the gathering of the troops of Borneo was far from usefull. The oil fields are mainly intacts. The retraiting dutch units will be harassed for weeks by air.

10th february, near Raba (Sulu Sea), SS O-24 hit with a torpedo AO Iro, but there is no "Fuel burning" message, giving the clue that it is heading back port, and not going to resupply KB in Indian Ocean.

Burma
Fews blenheim try to slow down and harass japanese 55th div walking north in the Irrawady Valley, and have no results.
On 9th, a raid of 10 bombers and 5 Hurricanes face 13 Zeros. All the Hurricanes are destroyed. Allied HQ was so much hoping this planes could fight the Zero on even odds.
On 10th, 8 Blenheim and 8 Hudson with 3 Hurricane as escorts attack Pagan where the japanese units arrived, but a CAP of 12 Zeros down 3 bombers; the raid achieve no results.

In Andaman, SS Swordfish unloading a fragment of a dutch base force hit a 88type mine; 54 mens are lost. This is an annoying threat because no ASW TF could stay in Andaman under permanent threat coming from Bangkok or Songkhia...

Indian Ocean

On 6th february, KB sailing west of Sumatra find a bunch of freighters and sink 2 of them.
The CL Sumatra, sailing 2 knots since weeks, with heavy floodings, and trying to reach Colombo before KB could catch it, can't handle all the damages. The ship is abandonned by it's crew and sink. All alone in this part of Ocean, not sure some of the crew would survive....
On 10th, KB is sighted near Sabang, north of Sumatra.
Allied HQ feel a slaughter is about to come: it will be true...twice (at least...)

gladiatt -> Bettys in the sky with diamonds (11/12/2009 8:24:39 PM)

11TH February - 16TH February

CentPac
12th feb, near Pearl, 5 US DD manage to score a direct hit on I-16, on fire.
Same day on Jonhston, a raid of 9 B-17 from 39th BG/A achieve no results. On 13th , a raid of 12 B-17 from 39th BG/B score a hit on runway.
A TF supposed to contain CA is spotted south of Midway. Is this an invasion ? The 5 US CV are headed from West Coast toward the atoll, at full speed.

SoPac
12th and 13th, attack on Gili Gili with 5 Hudson and 3 Boston: 3 runway hits, and few bombers are damaged by japanese flack.
On 14th, another raid destroy a Jake on ground, and score 1 hit on base, 1 on supply and 2 on runway.
On 14th, Lunga airfield reach level 3, wich denote the presence of many engineers !
On 15th, the raid on Gili Gili must face a CAP of 18 Nates. Theses places are not so obsoletes against the Wirraway: 5 of theses planes are destroyed for the loss of 1 Nate.
On 16th, the moral of the wirraway sqd is so low that it don't escort the 6 bombers raiding Gili Gili. Small damages on the airfield, but no loss on either side.
16th, Tulagi is occupied by the japanese Row boats ([;)] ).
Same day, south of Rabaul, SS Permit, trying to evacuate NVGR Bn suffer a direct hit from a PG TF: on fire, the sub sail south toward Sidney, and reach the port on 27th february.

China
11th february, attack on Yenen reduce fort to level 1. 3500 japanese casualties for 2000 chinese. The next day, japanese resume bombardement attack, wich make 800 casualties, an very impressive result ! [X(]
Aniway, the attack of the 13th can't take the place, and can't neither the 14th. Against all expectations, the chinese resist. But on the 15th, the japanese army put all it's might in the battle, ordering a shock attack wich succeed and force the chinese to withdraw, with a long retreat toward Kuchang. Small counterpart, the resources and industries of the town has been partly damaged.

PI
Manila is bombarded daily, shaking and disabling, but also training the allied units. 3 japanese planes are destroyed in this week. On 14th, 48th Div reinforce the besieging forces of Manila, amounting to 3 divisions on the south flank of Luzon.

Malaya
Singapore is under heavy bombing. Entire Datai of Oscar cover hundreds of bombers each day. AVG/A, reduced to 4 planes, is fighting against terrible odds, but is writing a part of it's legend. Between 11th and 13th february, it loose 2 P-40 but destroy 6 japanese planes. But on 14th, reduce to 2 planes, the squadron is withdraw to India before disapearing.
These same 3 days, Martins flying from Palembang try to cause some hurt to the japanese troops besieging Singapore, but they achieve no result and loose 6 planes of a Groep of 8.

No assaut on ground: that suit General Ludlow of Malaya Army, willing to buy as much time as possible. The historical timeline is beaten.

DEI
Soerebaja is under night raids wich cause very few results on ground, but many planes on both sides are damaged, the dutch fighters by the japanese bombers ([8|] ) and the bombers by Flack.
During the day, Zero are sweeping Soerebaja's skys, making life for 24th FG very hard.
The total air battle over the place in this week cost 31 allied planes for 7 japaneses.

On northern part of Java, Batavia suffer air raid as soon as the japanese spot some freighters : 3 are sunk in the week.

On 11th, Benjaermesin, empty of troop , is captured, and immediately host japanese bombers.
On 16th, a japanese convoy of 4 PC and 4 AK near Lombock is targeted by 12 Swordfish and 25 Blenheim from Soerebaja. 15 Zeros on CAP destroy 6 of the bombers, and the convoy escape without harm. This lead allied HQ in anxiety: is this the beginning of Java invasion ? Well, no, not yet...

Ceylon : 1st raid on Colombo and battle of Trivandrum

On approach of Bay of Bengal, KB find ML Pro Patria and AP Neptuna, sailing from Batavia, trying to reach safety....The whole KB unleash on them, they are sunk outright.
On 12th , KB has come close to Ceylon. Nearly 60 allied bombers are gathered in Colombo and Trincomalee, but none will fly against the powerful fleet.
A TF with CV Indomitable and CVL Hermes sail around Trinvandrum, hoping for maybe laying an ambush against KB once the LBA will weaken it....This plan is a big failure.

The british TF is ordered to take cover under the CAP of Colombo, but admiral Philipps, seaking glory or hopping for a miracle, react to KB, closing with it...
In the morning of 13 th, 15 Swordfish try to attack the japanese carriers. A CAP of 101 Zero is an absolute wall. 9 Swordfish are destroyed, the others turn back.
A part of the japanese bombers attack a convoy near Trinvandrum, hitting every single AK of the 7 of this convoy; 4 sink after this attack.
Near Ceylon, Royal Navy suffer a major defeat: see combat report

gladiatt -> AAR keep going ? (11/15/2009 9:27:45 AM)

17 th february - 20th february

CentPac
On 19th february, a japanese sub try to torpedo a US DD near Palmyra, but fail. Still, it spot a small TF of AK, unloading supplies and troops for the island. On 20th, 15 bettys (with 24 zeros as escort) attack and score 7 torpedoes hits on the 3 US DD, sinking 2 of them; the third is finished by I-19.

SoPac
On 18th, near Gili Gili, SS Perch sink a barge after long shelling .
Raids on Gili Gili keep going, but a bunch of nearly 10 bombers at each raid are not enough to achieve something: i am just trying to slow down the work done in this place.
On 20th, 4 DD locate and attack I-22 near Thursday Island, but score no direct hits.

The subs trying to evacuate fragments of NVGR Bn (Lark having been lifted totaly) near Rabaul can make hard encounter with ASW TF , and on 19th february, SS Narwhal is on fire after such an encounter.

China
South of Homan, the japanese 13th Tk Reg and a Naval Guard try to clear the hex north of railroad crossing. Battle against 3 chinese corps last until 20th, when the chinese manage to repulse theses units.

PI
On 17th february, the japanese launch an attack on Manila. 100.000 japanese soldiers can't force surrender of 30.000 allieds soldiers; battle end at 0/1 odds, with 3000 japanese casualties and 1300 allieds.

Malaya
Although besieged and under daily bombardement, Singapore reach fort level 8 on 20th february.

DEI
On 19th a raid on Tjilitjap with 12 Nells and Bettys and 18 Zeros put on fire an AK waiting for fragments to be evacuated....no luck. The 6 Hawk on CAP manage to not be shot down !
On 20th, 9 Blenheims try an naval attack at Bali, but a CAP of 75 zEROS (!!) down 6 of them, the others turn back, and i have no clue on what was targeted...

Above Soerebaja, air war costed 8 allieds planes for 10 japanese.

Burma
On 18th february, the japanese 33rd and 55th Div force the withdrawal of 2 chinese div and 1 burmese bde north of Pagan trying to protect the western flanck of Mandalay. What allied HQ feared arrive: the japs won't have to shock attack at Mandalay when crossing Irrawady River....

Indian Ocean
KB is still making damages in Ceylan (and i can tell you without killing suspens that this is only the beginning ).
On 17th, 3 TK damaged from previous raids are finished and sunken.
On 18th, KB launch a raid against an AK tryink to seek refuge in Colombo.
52 Zeros+ 15 vals + 22 Kates fight 25 Hurricanes+ 5 P-40 + 6 Blenheim IF (night fighter).
2 P-40, all 6 Blenheim and 22 Hurricanes are downed for 4 zeros: theses KB pilots are crack elites on crack machines ! (oh, yeah, the AK is sink).

A few hours latter (still 18th february), 44 Kates without escort attack Colombo harbor. 19 of them are downed by CAP or Flack. Despite theses losses, they manage to put on fire (with 800kg bombs) BB Revenge, Repulse and Royal Sovereign, and CA Exeter (this one already on fire from battle of Trinvandrum).

Then, the 19th and 20th, KB sail a bit southern, and along with crapy weather (thunderstorms), no more attack....for a short while.
