Seth -> Adventure in China (6/20/2002 11:53:55 AM)

Once again, the Sultan of San Antone takes on the Pride of Plainview. This time, I am the British assaulting the Red Chinese in 1942. The map is divided by a river, which I chose to balance my armor advantage. Not too much cover, but lots of terrain. The upper left is cut off from the rest of the map by the river, which curves up in the middle. A branch comes down at a receding angle, nearly cutting off the bottom right. There is a very thin strip of beach at the bottom of this arm, which I have declared impassible to my units. I had about 8300 points, roughly 1200 of which were used to purchase some Nationalists. There was a small area at the bottom available to me to deploy forces already across the river. I chose to place only recon elements there, since packing it with armor would have been cheesy. The game begins with a ferocious preemptive bombardment by the enemy, which certainly supresses, if not seeming to kill anyone. An 8in battery nails the communist 149's, hopefully disrupting them for a while. There are also a lot of 82mm mortars. To cover my crossing, two other 8in batterys lay smoke. On my little corner of his bank, I advance with M3 Scout Cars, a few snipers, and some Nationalist cavalry. Bunkers and some ATG's are spotted, and there seem to be Red snipers here. No damage, but I think his PaK 35/36's can handle the Scout Cars with no trouble. The bunkers thankfully are only armed with MG's. On the northern strip, the only troops to see action are My Mk. VI recon tanks, who are fired on by a 12.7. So far, no one has lost a man, with the exception of some Red artillerists.

Fear not Capitalist Pig, two of your Scout Cars have met their inevitable end. Unfortunately the People's AT gunners are not sufficently motivated to hit your little insignificant tanks and a few will be shot to provide the necessary socialistic ardor for the others to pursue their duty. Advance and die Imperialist along with your Running Dog lackeys of Chiang Kai-shek!

So far, more words than action, my Red friend ;) I lose a few random men in the south, as they attempt to find cover to advance under. In the North, my Churchills advance and while destroying a sniper, force some infantry to retreat. One Churchill finds a mine :( The 82's are active again, some bombarding me, some laying smoke, about half of which covers my advance. Thanks! The 8in Btys then blast the artillery positions, so hopefully there will be less mortar activity in the future.

Ahh, those Western devils and their infernal machines. I really have nothing to counter the tanks or the 8 inch artillery. Heck I have the Communist Chinese, we don't need nothing but the zeal of spreading the true path of Marxism to the world. Meanwhile we will try a little help from my 45mm and 37mm AT guns against his Churchhills. My biggest hope is to immobilize them with the guns or with all the zealous Socialist Chinese bodies under his treads before they can reach the objective hexes. If nothing else I hope the supression we place on each unit will serve to slow him down. Sooner or later that UK or Nationalist infantry will have to make an appearance and then we can get to some serious indoctrination into the correct path for them to take.

Even the machinery of the capitalist pigs realize the futility of reversing the inevitable triumph of Marxism upon the world as two of the one called Churchill's by the archaic Royalists from the United Kingdom decide to give up and die after some rather forceful persuasion from a couple of our glorious rifle squads. In a shining example of Communist superiority one of our snipers has also been able to immobilized another of these Churchill's. Meanwhile on the other flank the unbelievers of Chiang Kai-Shek are learning the futility of sending horse mounted troops against bunkers and entrenched infantry.

Rot you commies! My turn features a few potshots at his bunkers, lots of his bunkers shooting at me, mines everywhere, and the return of his heavy artillery, which kills about 7 men. My heavy artillery has finished tea, and returns to duty by dropping more rounds on the supposed mortar positions, which produces a few casualties. I do manage to eliminate two of the pesky snipers.

Well we have decided it is time to begin the re-education of the unenlightened masses of the Imperialist infantry. Meaning that we did no vehicle damage on my half of the turn but did manage to shoot up some infantry, in particular several UK Platoon HQ's. We look forward to more chances to re-educate these men.

Seth -> (6/28/2002 10:52:33 AM)

We attempt to show the superiority of a parliamentary monarchy, but are thwarted. Some of my artillery, under Cpt. Philby, shells our good Nationalist friends. Nothing is accomplished, except for some movement. I cause two or three casualties.
Seth
P.S. Had to break my rule. It turns out that some vehicles won't load onto barges, so they'll go across the beach.

nelmsm1 -> (6/28/2002 11:31:49 AM)

Decide to show the superiority of the Communist way by destroying a MkVIb, with an AT gun no less. First thing they have done besides scrape paint. We will be having a serious re-education session with our weapons engineers as we need heavier weapons. Also with our armorers as I am plagued by weapons breakdowns. Only one minor penetration by the Monarchists so far. Hopefully they will advance further so that my main line can show their revolutionary zeal also.

Seth -> (6/29/2002 2:31:06 AM)

Dear me, things are not going so well. The inscrutable celestials are proving quite bothersome. On the Northern peninsula, I kill 2 men, and suffer greatly due to artillery and mines. On the East bank of the main area, things may soon improve. The barges have landed some armor, and one Churchill damages a bunker. My artillery is landing on his lines, but not causing quite the casualties I need. The Nationalist cavalry remain pinned on a hill at the extreme south, where they will slowly wither away to nothing if I can't knock out a bunker or two.

In the North, it's the same old story of failure to accomplish anything. In the South, however, my breakthrough may have happened. There are now four Churchills, and they have killed two bunkers. Supporting infantry rout several pinko squads, and then my 8" batteries deal death to the retrating survivors. Two squads are wiped out, and another badly hurt. In the rear, it's commando time. I kill an LMG team, and duke it out with a 20mm AAG, coming out on top.
Seth

nelmsm1 -> (6/29/2002 8:48:07 PM)

Well the so called Imperialist breakthrough in the south by the Imperialists hasn't even got to my first line of entrenchments let alone through. My reserves busy themselves by reading Karl Marx while they wait. Since his heavy artillery has shifted it's fires to the front lines my artillery is reappearing and once again starting to wreak havoc amongst his infantry. The elitist commandos are being dealt with as one squad has been destroyed by the masses. Soon my Monarchist-Capitalist foe and his uneducated Nationalist lackeys will learn the meaning of the word "horde". ;)

Seth -> (6/30/2002 12:39:22 AM)

This one is seriously starting to look unwinable. I am getting hammered by his artillery, which has stripped one section of the front clean. There has been no counter fire since the first turn, so I'll hope supply is poor. I cannot advance in the north at all. I have had lots of foot units sitting on mines with 0 supression for 4-5 turns and only three have been removed. In the south, it is clear that the destruction of the first line (which is now almost complete) will lead only to a second line. I do kill another bunker, and some units are now on the hill, scattering the remnants of the defenders. To the north of the hill, infantry that was providing flank cover for the bunkers is now mostly routed, and their 12.7 is dead. The commandos are performing well, but are terribly outnumbered. They will all die.
Seth

nelmsm1 -> (6/30/2002 2:11:44 AM)

Once again the Army of Mao is strenghtened by the thought of the eventual triumph of Marxist Socialism and mostly stand fast under the assault of the Imperialists, choosing to die in place rather then yield. This turn saw the destruction of another of the gangster elitist squads the British call Commandos. Did not destroy any of their tanks but damaged several. If not for my own minefields I would unleash my reserve to deliver swift justice to the capitalist usurpers but we shall bide our time and let them come to us. :mad:

Seth -> (6/30/2002 3:39:25 AM)

This is really crappy. Another turn with more mines. I can hardly move, and all my infantry is supressed. The Churchill was immobilized by a rifle. What the hell is going on?
Seth

nelmsm1 -> (6/30/2002 4:35:01 AM)

At last the British have seen the error of their capitolistic ways and have ceased the attack as the enlightened masses of the Chinese Communist Army have withstood their criminal attack and broken their will.

This last turn saw the breaking of the British morale and a decisive victory for the Chinese Communists. I had about 30 Dare Death squads and about that many more Pioneer squads waiting in reserve to take care of the armor if it ever got past the minefield and my front line infantry positions. My AT guns did not get many kills but they did cause damage and supression. I should have spread my mortars out more though so that his supressing fire wouldn't have been so severe. Of course I had 8 75mm batteries that never did answer the call for artillery support. Those gunners are now working for the engineers in a mine clearing capacity. Seth set up the river crossing attack to handicap his armor but I really didn't need it.

:D :cool:
