TechSgt -> Managing the Offensive Player (11/7/2009 5:58:32 AM)

After stealing more than a few threads, I figure this could be a place to put some of the great ideas.

This thread differs from other strategy threads, in that its primary goal is -- How to fly the mostest the longest?

Basically, my goal is to divide all Air Forces into fourths. The idea is an outgrowth of SOPs used by the Eighth AF groups during WWII.
Each day three squadrons would fly and one squadron would stand down.

This is the goal! The objective date to have all Air Force on this type of schedule is 1 Jun '44.

At the start of a '43 Campaign only one unit is capable of the objective, Bomber Command!
The others, in best to worst ranking :

Med AF,
XII AF,
2 TAF, includes FC,
VIII AF,
IX AF,
XV AF is the farthest from the goal.

In the next post I'll start with Bomber Command and explain some of the basic concepts.

Hey TechSgt <S>

Sounds good. I agree, my Strategic forces are a bit too small in the opening of the 43 campaign to do this. Only BC seems capable. I hav'nt been paying that close of attention to individual units. I just track Morale and Fatigue and use that as my Go / No Go indicator.

How low do you let morale go?

I am trying to keep bomber morale above 50% - but don't feel that I am inflicting enough damage with my raids because of using too few bombers (I am in Oct 43 and have yet to receive many new bomber units that might allow this).

BC seems to be the only way to inflict significant damage (mostly terror) at the moment.

Hey 7th <S> [8D]

For me the bottom is 50% for Morale. I explain it in my thread on my Strategic and Tactical Doctrine post in this forum. I also explain my thoughts about why BC is really your only valid force to do any damage with for quite some time in the beginning of the 43 campaign. I would recommend trying to keep their Morale up as high as possible. Take a quick scan of your overall Morale breakdown on you Daylight forces. If most are in the 50's then you are pushing them too hard and your losses are too high. Keep in mind that which causes your Morale to get low across all of your forces is the same thing that is causing your poor Bombing results.

In general: Morale + Fatigue + Experience = Results. Results can be modified by Recon and how you coordinate your Daylight operations to disperse and dilute the Luftwaffe response to them as well as your saturation over the Target.

In the early part of the 43 Campaign, where you are now, you can really only hit 1 or 2 Daylight Strategic Targets, maybe 3 if you work hard at building and coordinating the timing of all your daylight operations. You just dont have enough Heavy Bomber Groups and Escorts with Range in the early period to do a lot with on a day to day basis. You have to look farther down the road and plan operations over time. You have to do a lot more preparation to enable successful strikes with low losses to hit Daylight Strategic targets. Dont get in a hurry. As I explain in my post you need to work with BC and learn how to obtain success with them first.

You really wont have a lot to work with until very much later in 43. You should see Drop Tanks become available for your P-47's in November and that will help a lot. December and January are pretty much useless due to poor weather conditions. This allows you to rebuild much of your Daylight forces with both Material and Morale.

I am still working on my post for Daylight Strategic Operations. I keep rewriting it because I am just not satisfied with it yet. I think I will most likely be posting it in small pieces instead of one overall set of posts as I did with what I already have posted. At any rate from what you posted here you are on the right track because you are seeing what you should be seeing. This is one more reason why this is such a great game. If it were easy it would be some silly app of Ipods or Blueberries or whatever that crud is.

Hey Kaybay...go to hyperspace with that Daylight Strategic Op's guide because I need some advice with my current oil long campaign! I'm still like 28 points away from victory and the brass will have my butt if I fail miserably while having under my command thousands of airplanes more than the Germans! I've already chosen the subordinates I will blame for it but it just might be not enough if things keep going this way...

Hey Guys!

Sorry but I got real busy with Life if you know what I mean. But I am back playing and writing.

Well I have been working on my next addition to my thread in the war room but it appears that it is no longer here. Would like to know where it is as I spent months building it and recently spent months working on my next post covering Strategic Daylight ops. A few more weeks and I should have it done. But to no avail if my thread is gone.

Regards,
KayBay [8D]
