Spotted mini KB coming intowards Perth - I have 75 P40's there but they have the pilots they arrived with so they are seriously **** despite over a month of 100% training. Anyway I have over 150 aircraft at Perth but based on past experience I am not hopefull. Andy

I am really struggling to find 50 ish xp pilots for my USAAF Sqns really slow to train up I think I am doing something wrong - decent pilots are like gold dust as sending 30xp pilots into a fight is just a waste of a plane. Its a real struggle for me in my games Mini KB has dissappeared again I have Sqns just no decent pilots I am going to strip every 50+ XP pilot I have and move him to my USAAF Sqns in the front line but I have a LOT of 30xp pilots and my losses have not yet been that heavy in pilots. I think I am doign somethign wrong

The one thing I havent mentioned so far anywhere is that I suspect both Sting and I had the same strategy do as little as possible in Malaya.... After day 4 I have been evaccing every man who can walk out of Malaya to java and then onwards to Perth I got out pretty much the whole 11th Indian Div intact and about 40% of 9th Indian Div they are now in Perth plus both the Australian Bdes and a good selection of the support units I dont think String realised what I was up to as he is still sitting on the other side of the malacca strait and its 4th Feb he has 31 units there so the end is nigh If 18th British Div hadnt been wrecked at Darwin I would be well up as it stands its probably about even...

Yup less than 30,000 men in Singapore now When my attack comes out of Australia I will have 1st Aus Corps (6th 7th and 9th Aus Divs) III Indian Corps (8th Aus Div (with both Bdes out essentially intact I can rebuild the Div easily), 18th Brit OR 9th Indian depending on whioch one I rebuild and 11th Indian Div) plus a US Army Corps of 3 Divisions So when the time comes I will have a fair bit of force supported by mostly Australian Armour I will form this force up deep in the South until its ready to attack Getting the shipping and air support to assist in this attack will be the trick Add to that in India I managed to get BurCorps out intact so India is in better shape than per history as well so my real worry is Ceylon or NZ

Don't defend what you can't hold... if he wants Ceylon or NZ let him, just don't loose good troops. Until you have a div and lvl 4 forts no place is safe. 2 div and 5 forts though probably is,or at least (like in our case at Adak) will contain the enemy for a long while. I agree with jrcar regarding New Zealand. Whilst nice to keep, a Japanese invasion of New Zealand is not a mortal blow against Australia. The loss of New Zealand only becomes difficult if the Japanese: (a) also capture and develop the Maldives and Diego Garcia, and (b) permanently maintain some carrier power off Perth. In other words, to really exploit a capture of New Zealand (putting aside the additional cost to Japan resulting from triggering the NZ reinforcements and transporting fuel to NZ), Japan must be prepared to interdict the SLOCs from Capetown and Aden to Perth and southern Australia. Even with a developed and Japanese owned Diego Garcia/Maldives, that is not an easy task to accomplish when there is so much water due west of Perth and no Heard Island or French Kerguelen island etc to allow for a seaplane base to be established by Japan to keep eyes over the roaring forties. Regarding that lost mini KB, my money is that it is looking for convoys from the aforementioned Capetown/Aden heading to/from Perth/southern Australia. Alfred

I sorta agree but for immersion purposes I could never give up NZ or Australia or Ceylon without a fight - its not in me.... A coup de main before I can react is the only circumstance I can envisage where I would give up these locations - i.e. before I could react. NZ conquered would lead to the collapse of Churchill's Govt and probably lack of support for the War amongst the Dominions.... So the line will be drawn - it may not be sensible in game terms in fact I may agree with you both that it isnt but I cannot not fight for NZ or Ceylon..... So I will reinforce and dig in and get ready for a pit fight to end all pit fights if he goes that way.... Trading space for time works in some locations but NZ I draw the line at !!!!

Just had a look round to check status of NZ All bases at least forts 3 - at present 4 Inf Bdes and 2 Cav Bdes in the North Island and 2 Inf Bdes and 1 Cav Bde on South Island en route QE has 1st Wave of 27th US Inf Div en route to North Island longer term en route I have an Inf Regt, 2 Cst Arty Bn's and a Tank Bn plus a couple of EAB's and Construction Regts Also at Suva I have equivalent to 2 Divs at present also with more en route. If all the convoys that are currently at sea arrive intact I will put up a good show. Andy

On Ceylon I have 6th Aus Div and the 3 Indian Inf Bdes plus a LOT of AA Guns (at present 5 Indpt AA Regts with a full AA BDE arriving in 24 days) So if KB comes calling they will suffer...... I may lose but I think I have enough to put up a decent fight in both locations. Get one more Div onto Ceylon and I am confident of stopping whatever String can throw at it

7th Aus Div will be on map inside a week as well so add that to the Ceylon garrison plus the 3 Indian Coastal Arty Regts and enough supply and would say Ceylon is also secure

The US guaranteed NZ in return for NZ leaving the 2nd NZ Division in the Mediterranean. That's why the Marines were there.

Agree with the immersion consideration and that Japan should be made to fight (not just walk in) to conquer NZ. That is why NZ units should not be moved away from NZ, at least not until their homeland is secure. My point is that there are other far higher priorities for the Allies. Alfred

I agree if you are playing the game not if you are trying to play the war. For me NZ is importsant so I am reinforcing it. Ultimately I am a quasi historic not out of the box player. Tactically I will be adventurous but strategically I will stick to a broad strategy of defend the heartland then hit back when I can

na I turned one back when I realised how weak 18th had got I may need them if he lands somewhere else so it wasnt worth the risk of getting my forces cut off - the Div is wrecked.

Andy, you seem to be really suffering from IJN subs, they seem to be more a pain than KB. Why are the subs hurting you so bad? While my PBEM vs Rainer really has a lot of parallels to your two games vs. String and PzB, I�ve by far not that much ships sunk by IJN subs (though I had two torps slamming into one of my carriers a dozen hexes off LA). Are you running so many TFs around sub invested waters or are your TFs repeatedly going on the same shipping lanes? Not sure I am noticing heavy losses in both my games so I suspect its probably me not the game. I will try to pay more attention to this aspect I also use SC convoys a lot which do stick to the same routes. Anyway a few details about what the situation is in the centre will follow shortly
