Hello All,
Just a quick question I hope you can answer - how do you load supplies onto an AVP so they can support seaplane operations? Happy New Year inadvance, Rab in snowy Scotland.

you donīt need to load supplies, they also add their aviation support without supplies.

True, but it would be nice to be able to fill up your AVP and AVD so you don't have to send additional merchants to whatever forward base you want the recon.

You can not load supplies onto AVDs or AVPs; you can load supplies onto AVs. The ships will still support your planes, you just have to find another way of getting supply to the base.

In Patch 1, cargo capacity was added to AVs, AVDs, and AVPs. Why the ability to actually load the AVDs and AVPs was not added is rather strange.

AVP, AVD, and AP do not load supplies. Rather, they support patrol plane operations at any base size zero or above that is located in a coastal hex. AVP, AVD, and AVP provide Aviation Support Points to the base that they are loacted at for the sole purpose of supporting Patrol Planes. The supplies for the operations come from the base in the hex and the planes are based at those bases, not the seaplane tender.

Here is how it apparently works:

AVP = 6 Aviation Support
AVD = 6 Aviation Support
AV = 24 Aviation Support

If the Tender has an aircraft capacity, this number is added to the aviation support. I do not know if the ones with an A/C capacity can operate any aircraft, float planes or otherwise, while underway, but none of them have assigned floatplanes.

The aviation support points apply only to the Patrol planes operating out of the base This is shown on the base screen as the number after the plus sign by Aviation Support.

There are also some Dutch AVP that have lower aviation support (4)

Nomad -> RE: Loading AVPs (12/28/2009 3:33:47 PM)

The problem is they added some cargo capacity to AVPs but you can not load supply on them. I thought the idea was you could have supply aboard the AVP and support Float equiped patrol aircraft at remote locations.

I have been researching this for the past few hours. I have been reading some of the personal histories, the official naval history on the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, and wikipedia. I can see the assigned aircraft capacity being useful for aircraft transport. None of the AV, AVD, and AVP that I saw had catapults or functioning flight decks. A few had deck space on which they could transport planes. A picture of the USS Langley (See USS Langley) shows what looks to be 11 PBY and 2 smaller float planes on board (a little help on aircraft ID?).

The principle purpose of the cargo capacity appears to be to enable these ships for the Fast Transport mission. I think that these ships had a limited capacity to carry supplies to support ongoing flight operations including Aviation Fuel and other items. In practice, it appears that they operated almost exclusively out of harbors and in some cases out of remote, undeveloped harbors (base size zero with no Aviation or Naval Support). I believe that a future patch to teh game should enable these ships to carry supplies and use them for aviation operations when located in a coastal base hex.

eMonticello -> RE: Loading AVPs (12/28/2009 8:43:47 PM)

From previous discussions, this was an oversight that was to be corrected in this patch. Unfortunately, the AVP and AVD may require code changes to allow loading supplies. I tested it by "converting" AV Curtiss to AVD Curtiss ... and the option to load supplies is now greyed. So, it might be fixed for patch 3?
