T119
Moscow mayhem... The Soviets employ ferry units as infiltrating guerillas, crossing an unguarded section of the river and -bim-bam-boom[X(]- they're behind my lines

Increasing pressure near Moscow, where the Soviets captured Serpukhov and broke through east of Obninsk... A withdrawal in that bulge may become necessary.

The Rtishchevo area. Despite straightening the line, the danger hasn't subsided
I have 4 Italian units as reinforcements, which I'll have to send to this area (all others are divided units reconstituting)

26 August 1942
The holes from the previous Soviet assaults have been plugged, thanks to the freshly arrived Italian alpine divisions.
But now another assault has been carried out near Kirsanov

Near Moscow Soviet strength is increasing all the time... Several problem spots

... but in the Caucasus I'm still on the advance, not fast but steady

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (4/29/2010 11:51:13 PM)

30 August 1942
I started the final assault on Stalingrad, but the Soviets attacked my northern flank

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (4/30/2010 4:05:50 PM)

Turn 126 is underway and I'm making progress in the Caucasus.
Moving past Mozdok, to Kizlyar and northwards up the Baku-Astrakhan line.. I may be able to meet up with the units pushing east out of Elista
Using an engineer unit as recon I found Grozny to be undefended![X(] For key locations like that I'd suggest placing a fixed counter representing local militia in them

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (4/30/2010 5:59:52 PM)

During the Soviet's turn I got kicked out of Grozny right away, so no difference in the supply situation. Trying a back door move to disrupt the Soviet supply lines on t127

Stalingrad was captured, and held... that's gonna make a difference

We've done that at other places, so maybe a good idea for Grozny too. I think we have an available unit slot, we can ask Rick if he can put a garrison there.

I tend to think this aspect might discourage players from coup de maining certain locations.

This made me wonder how the Germans took Maikop, because I didn't recall any account of a battle there. I found it is reported that zbv800 moved into Maikop masquerading as Soviets, and convinced the garrison to retreat. Wow.

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (5/3/2010 7:53:04 PM)

Here's the movie from t125 till 130... note the Soviet offensive north of Stalingrad... I have to throw everything available in battle as so to plug the holes

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (5/9/2010 11:25:27 PM)

23 Sep.1942 Turn 132 is underway and I'm gonna have to make some decisions.
My Caucasus offensive seems to have come to a halt. A few weak attacks to capture Grozny were fruitless and in other places the Soviets have organized a solid defense.

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (5/9/2010 11:28:08 PM)

More from t132
The Soviet offensive north of Stalingrad has caused some havoc. The only available units I could rail in were some weak Jungarian security units. I pulled back from Kotovo.

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (5/9/2010 11:30:09 PM)

23 Sep.1942
More trouble along the Rtishchevo-Tambov line
I decided to start a pull back in the northern part of this sector, behind the river.
This shot before the manoeuver

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (5/9/2010 11:32:56 PM)

And here a shot after the pull-back... I gave up 100 Km in some sectors, but with the Soviets having the avantage here and winter approaching, I had to do it cuz else I would face a major disaster.

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/2/2010 8:21:29 PM)

This one's been on the shelf for a while, but I'm continuing..

On 30 September 1942 we see the furthest advance east by any Axis unit when the 1st bde/68 Inf Div fought its way into Astrakhan

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/4/2010 7:14:53 PM)

Turn 136 and we've got mud. Saved by the bell...that came no turn too soon cuz the Soviets were putting heavy pressure on my lines in front of Moscow.

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/4/2010 7:18:20 PM)

In the Caucasus I fear I've reached as far as I could for now... If we get trouble further north I'll have to pull out

I still hold Stalingrad but my positions on the flanks are being tested

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/4/2010 7:21:39 PM)

I had to rail in the Prinz Eugen div. to help tackle units reconstituting behind my lines... what a waste... I rather wanted to assign PE to a frontline task

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/6/2010 11:11:10 AM)

Let's check some figures... Got a lot more tanks, but I'm sure so do the Soviets... Air superiority is a thing of the past. Aircraft losses have been mounting and several air units were withdrawn as well. Transport has been on the decline as well

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/7/2010 11:35:20 PM)

Before continuing the AAR a small comment on reconstitution... There are many strong Soviet units reconstituting behind my lines... If I'd see Partisans I'd be OK with that. On my side I saw my German 1st Infantry division reconstitute in Helsinki...  I'm gonna set fixed reconstitution points in my personal mod

Coming up: Soviet winter offensive 1942-43

The Soviet units will only reconstruct behind German lines if there are unconverted hexes. It is important to convert all regular supplied hexes. At first this seems like a chore but it is easily handled by the MP and Security forces. I have play tested over 20 D21 games and never had 1 unit do this.
If you change the Soviet reconstruction to fixed then a lot of units will probably not reconstruct because the Soviet track 1 objectives for most formations are close to the frontier.
As for the German unit reconstructing in Helsinki, it can happen because of the game engine but it is very rare. There is no problem setting the German units to fixed reconstruction. A lot of the German formations have programmed track 1 objectives but some may not be fully programmed. Formations in Norway are set to fixed.
Also 3.4 seems to be handling all reconstruction of units better than the previous versions.

I know.. I must have left too many hexes unconverted in that prticular area... anyway i took care of most of those units now

11 Nvember 1942... The situation near Stalingrad is becoming kinda tough...

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/8/2010 7:11:41 AM)

... I'm planning to withdraw from the Caucasus... I got as far as I could, and the situation further north makes the need for extra units there quite urgent. My units on the Black Sea coast near Gagra are in good defensive positions.. gonna keep those there for the time being

Silvanski -> RE: Moscow or bust! D21 (8/8/2010 7:14:02 AM)

The positions north of Tambov.. I had to withdraw to a shorter line due to increased Soviet pressure. Having taken care of most rogue Soviet units, the Prinz Eugen dudes are being moved to the front. In other sectors , Moscow and further up I had to give ground a bit and deal with Soviet infiltrations but am not too worried
