castor troy -> AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 7:13:02 AM)

Jwilkerson has posted it on his AAR so I guess he wonīt mind if I bring it up on the main forum. Seems like the next patch will have the chance to include a new feature of having AE running on a widescreen display.

Admiral Scott -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 7:30:23 AM)

Iīve spent hours already trying to do this and that but it never looked good, so Iīve just left it in windowed mode, which doesnīt look good either. I should have kept my old 19 inch monitor instead of switching over to a widescreen 24"

khyberbill -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 9:07:29 AM)

I am not sure what you mean by wide screen. My monitor has the 16:9 aspect and that is how I play the game. I tryed windowed mode once and did not like the results.

rockmedic109 -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 9:47:35 AM)

I play on a 16:9 17 inch laptop screen and I find no problems at all.

JeffroK -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 11:09:02 AM)

I played it on my 42" TV and its just fine, hell of a lot of work seeing everything on the screen though.[:D]

I mean 24 inch, 16:9. Looks awfully to me as itīs completely skewed then. No wonder as itīs a 4:3 design on a 16:9 monitor. Windowed mode is 4:3 again, but just as you, I donīt like it. Itīs still better for me than using the 16:9 on my 24 inch display, the resolution is just too bad and everything looks awful.

dr. smith -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 4:13:46 PM)

My rig (since my Christmas present to myself) is dual monitors, a 21 inch is my secondary and a 26" Samsung TV is my primary.  This to have the ability to have an Excel spreadsheet open, maybe an database, and have internet access to be able to see the WitP-AE forum for helpful tips. .

When I do full screen, looks good if a bit "stretched", but on the 26" screen I don't have to squint to read stuff.  But, I can't access the secondary when in full screen mode - so I gotta do windowed, that fills up only 2/3s the primary -  OK but not quite as good as full screen.

dorjun driver -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 7:30:34 PM)

16:9 aspect ratio for WitP:AE?

That would be a pretty major rewrite. I assume that it is just auto-scaled so you don't have to screw-around with video scale settings.

I think it is in wide screen.

From http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=2357571

fflanguna:
Wow! How did you set the window to 1920x1200 resolution? I need this NOW! :D

jwilkerson:
Well, we're testing it out now. If we can't break it then it should be in the next patch.

Oh, and in case your next question was WHEN?? - the answer to that would be - WHEN IT IS READY!!

freeboy -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/25/2010 11:55:57 PM)

Not sure what the issue is, I run mine at non windowed full screen fill to fir the 24 inch wide screan I use, game looks, well ok... not deformed just not crips....
turn off hex side detail helps...
runs great off both pc and laptop extended

TOMLABEL -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/26/2010 12:53:28 AM)

But you don't see this much real estate, though, do you?
(screen print taken during testing)

usersatch -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/26/2010 1:01:21 AM)

Can I link my laptop to my Sony Bravia and play it on my TV?  Do I just need that special cable (my 16 yo son knows what it is) to connect and play?
This would be really cool.

Admiral Scott -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/26/2010 1:03:05 AM)

How soon can we get widescreen support?

According to Joe - probably in the next patch whenever it is ready (ETA unknown at this time).

Admiral Scott -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/26/2010 1:07:37 AM)

I hope that will be soon.

Cmdrcain -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/26/2010 4:55:08 AM)

Huh?

I run WITP AE in 1680x 1050 on a 22 inch widescreen with no problems...

As to some things...

I have my OS settings for larger then default font size... 120 DPI and that affects alot of things on monitor.. I think it makes text in game a bit larger..

As noted by TOMLABEL you will not see the ENORMOUS quantity of map he displays in his screenshot, yo can play in your widescreen (I play in mine) but we both are simply being things greater (not a bad thing for my tired sights...) no more things at the same time

vlcz is correct. The game code had to be changed/adjusted/manipulated/kicked and prodded to do this.

TOMLABEL -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/27/2010 1:05:29 AM)

As opposed to the current game code resolution - no matter wide screen monitor or not.

At last my wife will be true when saying I got a monitor the size of Australia! [8D]

If you think the last patch (or the release of AE itself for that matter) generated some hype, just you wait for the clamour when this baby is about to be rolled out!!! [X(] [X(]

Once everyone realizes the implications of all this that is... [8|] [:D]

Absolutely fantastic work BigJ!!! [&o] [&o]

moose1999 -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/27/2010 8:40:44 AM)

This is wonderful news, but I just realized that I'm probably not going to use it.

I really like the bigger text my 1680x1050 screen gave me when moving from my 17 inch, so although it looks pretty cool and useful with more real-estate on the screen I'm not sure I will be willing to give up the readability (is that an english word...?).

I'm still young and have good eyes, mind you, but I would like it to stay that way too...! [;)]

Akos Gergely -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/27/2010 9:38:19 AM)

It's plain awesome! Seems my single biggest negative with the game will finally be over then.

I guess the combat windows will still run in the middle of the screen in 1024X768, is that correct?

Reg -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/27/2010 10:05:47 AM)

Will there will be support for multiple monitors????

(I wonder how long it will be before someone posts a picture of the WHOLE MAP on a video wall or dare I say it, lecture theater).

Mistmatz -> RE: AE on wide screen - it is possible (1/27/2010 10:51:05 AM)

Well, thats looking awesome and all but... where is the minimap for navigating?
