Problem is, that can easily put Lexingtom right in the path of the KB returning from PH. You better have your timing just right to get your strikes in at Wake and still get away in time. I lost Lexington and Enterprise in my first GC against the AI because I got fixated on destroying the Wake invasion, and as Japan have probably just killed Lexington in a PBeM in the same situation. I'm all in favour of an active defence by the Allied player, but I think Wake is a trap.

IMO the best bet is for Lexington to hit whatevers around Wake but then head SE into the err SW part of hte Pacific,  skip around Tarawa etc but keep the Bufallo's or Wildcats on CAP just in case there's a long range Nellie attack,  and see if they can do any damage around Truk or E of there before ending up in Australia.  Do the same with Big-E which is about two days behind Lady Lex except remembering to pick up the USMC Wildcats on Wake after they've got soem experience shooting down Nellies
I agree though neither carrier force should hang around Wake long just incase the KB appears from the east but it's worth them hitting whatever invasion/amphibious force is there in the first week fo the war as they pass by.
Alternatively if you don't want your CV's to end up in Noumea or Australia/NZ,  let them loop back down to the south past Suva then eventually back to PH in a big wide circle,  should avoid the KB that way as it can't afford to hang around too long (and also over-expose it's valuable AO's) looking for the US CV's
