Barb -> wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 12:13:05 AM)

Hmm using this command in game link Target:

"D:\Games\War In The Pacific AE\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -dual -px1440 -py900

But resulting application is still 1024x768

Tried various px and py, but game starts in 1024x768 mode. Removing -w will cause it to be fullscreen.
Using Vista and NVidia 8600M GS graphic card on my notebook.

Falken -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 12:47:36 AM)

I'm having the same issue.

Tried every combination, and can't get it out of normal 1024 768, whether it's windowed or full screen.
btw,,, i'm using XP.

Erik Rutins -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 12:49:09 AM)

Works fine here in XP on a 1440x900 laptop with a nVidia 8600. Could you post a DxDiag please and an exact copy/paste of your shortcut target line?

Falken -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 1:18:05 AM)

Hi Eric,

Don't have the DXDiags yet, but here's the command line:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -deepColor -px1280 –py800

ChickenOfTheSea -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 3:10:39 AM)

I had the same problem in 32-bit Windows 7. I solved it by re-creating the shortcut to the exe file and re-editing the command line. Now it works exactly as advertised. Nice touch. Now tell me where me where I can get new eyes. At 1920x1080 there's a lot of detail to see.

loyalcitizen -> Wide Not working? Try this! (2/17/2010 4:31:20 AM)

You would never believe...

So I was having trouble at first, I played around with it for 20 minutes. Then I noticed one tiny thing. I had copied the

–px1680 –py1050 from the read-me and pasted it into my command line. No dice. Tried everything. Then, finally... revelation!

The dashes in the read-me are too long.

-px1680 -py1050 is what it should be. Works fine now!

treespider -> RE: Wide Not working? Try this! (2/17/2010 5:17:37 AM)

for 1440 x 900

you need to enter -px1440 -py0900

If your monitor support x800 I imangine the -py line should be -py0800

I had gotten the full screen to work but had a problem with windowed - and your notice fixed it!

Very important to include the leading zero.

Barb -> RE: Wide Not working? Try this! (2/17/2010 7:01:38 AM)

Played with it around:
1. Created new link from the original file
2. Set it up to start as Administrator
3. Set it up in WinXp compatibility
4. added zero to -py0850
5. Played with minus/hyphen signs
6. Works great with non-windowed mode
7. Windowed wide screen works with -px1440 -py0900 (altough it is bit off screen, especially the bottom where industry is located)
8. Windowed wide screen works with -px1280 - py0800 (YIPIII!)[:D]

Notice: It may work on native resolutions with x:y = 1,6. Or at least I couldnt get it work on 1360x798, 1360x0850...
Also moving -w behind -px -py parameters may helped a bit.

Exact target line:
"D:\Games\War In The Pacific AE\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1280 -py0800 -w -dual

Tried this but still does not want to work on an Intel GMA4500 and Win 7 32bit

aciddrinker -> RE: Wide Not working? Try this! (2/17/2010 2:13:20 PM)

for users of Intel GMA, i updated drivers by http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm wide screen options started working for me.

Icedawg -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 5:44:50 PM)

Is there a description somewhere of how to get the game to run in wide screen mode?

I'm talking about a description for computer-illiterates like myself. No technical jargon. Just a step-by-step walk-through of how to get this set up.

RevRick -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 6:29:29 PM)

And, to ask an equally basic question - "What would be an adequate video card to by for an old P-4 2.2 machine with 2 Gig DDR2700 RAM with onboard Video processor?" Hard drive is more than adequate and new monitor is huge, but the stretch of the game is such that it is almost unplayable..

What settings does your current card support?

Have you tried the wide screen support yet? Perhaps that stretch will go away...[;)]

RevRick -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/17/2010 8:38:25 PM)

Yep.  Tried almost every setting suggested, and I get the same view.  The original screen size stretched out worse that a pat of butter on Scrooges' bread. I've even re established the short cut,
retyped the settings, and anything else my feebly equipped brain could devise..

RevRick,
Getting this working depends on the settings for your video card (which you lack) and your monitor. You might check through the buttons on your monitor to find something that allows the appropriate re-sizing. If not, and you really want this, you might have to pick up a video card. You wouldn't need anything fancy or expensive, just something that supports the resolutions you want. On the other hand, you have been around here enjoying the game for a long time without this feature, so it may not be worth the effort to you. I would check through the control buttons for your monitor, however.

Falken -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 2:17:53 AM)

Well, can't believe it.

Thank you thank you thank you ChickenOfTheSea.

I had tried everything. Tried params for Full Screen, Windowed, eliminating parms but the -x and -y. Nothing.
In the end, tried ChickenOfTheSea's idea of recreating the Shortcut.

Have absolutely no idea why, but it worked. Now I have Widescreen on Fullscreen and Windowed.

I don't get it, but right now, I don't care..... IT WORKS.

I somehow doubt that this is an honor. Our Chinese IT person at work says that I am the one that likes to "eat crap". Apparently to her this means I like to try out new stuff and figure out how to get it to work. Unfortunately, this now means that if anyone comes to her with a question on windows 7 she says "Go talk to Chuck. He's the one who likes to eat crap". In this case jwilkerson and others had shown it works. My first guess was a lucky one apparently.

Just this evening I have been checking it out by starting a game with the new Babes Lite Mod. Besides the beautiful wide-screen map (I'm doing 1920x1080) as the turn executes the animations are down in the lower right corner so you get a clear view of the map area in which the action is occurring at the same time. I really like having it work that way. I wonder if my ophthalmologist can give me a special AE glasses prescription so my old eyes dried out by winter weather can see all that detail.

ChickenOfTheSea -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 4:14:33 AM)

By the way, thanks to the programmers for adding this nice feature to an already great game.

McSeem -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 10:41:09 AM)

Does this parameters work on 4:3 monitors?
I have 1600x1200, tried different parameters (4:3, 16:9, fullscreen/windowed) - doesn't work [:(]

Akos Gergely -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 1:41:42 PM)

It seems to me that the most problem is with the GMA chips and 1440X900 resolutions, simply 'cos the GMA's next smaller resolution is 1366X768 and that means it defaults to 1024X768.

And somehow in full screen it does not want to start up.

Fortunately got it working on my desktop and  just spotted a slight missalignment issue on the aircraft upgrade screen, the 2nd and 3rd rows are shifted to the right too much. Will post a screenshot later today.

Otherwise big kudos for making this happen, on FullHD the map is just gorgeous!!!

MorningDew -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 2:36:19 PM)

I've tried all settings listed unde my screen resolutions. I can get it working in full screen, but not in windows mode.

One nice tool would be a utility to list which resolutions WitpAE will support on a given system.

But as for seeing it when it works...WOW!!!!

hubin -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 3:09:26 PM)

Works fine for me "\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition 1101b\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1920 -py1200

Zakhal -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 3:29:33 PM)

My windows7 resolution is 1920x1080 but the max I can get witp to work is 1600x0900. Ive tried absolutely everything. This does not sense make.

Zakhal -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 3:46:04 PM)

EDIT: I got it to work by updating nvidia graphics drivers.

Marc -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 7:44:56 PM)

Changing screen resolution does not work for me.
I have the following system:
Windows 7 64-bit
ATI 4600 series video card (newest drivers from 17.Feb 2010)
The game starts with the correct version number showing.

I created a new shortcut with the following settings but it does not work.
"...\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1680 -py1050 -dual (1680x1050 is the resolution of my monitor)
If I add -w and choose smaller settings the game starts in windows mode but always in 1024x768.

I chose different resolutions but that did not change anything either.

Are there any log files that could give me a hint why it doesn't work?

Marc -> RE: wide screen support (Patch 3 beta) (2/18/2010 8:15:46 PM)

I just tried it on my Win XP notebook with 1400x1050 resolution and it worked at once.

Please help me with my Win 7 PC.
