Orzel Bialy -> Need A Map for a Battle??? (7/11/2002 5:46:09 AM)

Ok, my wife and kids will be gone this weekend visiting her brother...and that will leave me some extra time this weekend to try and fill.
It's nice to have a little break away from all the usual household noise...for about the first two or three hours....then you realize just how much you miss them!!!;)
So, to keep me busy I'll be working on a my own projects...but I could always use a little something extra to work on from time to time when I need a break from those. As such....would anyone like a custom map made for a pbem battle?
All I ask is that there not be requests for major cities...those can take way too much time ( I'm a nice guy...but not a Saint! :D ) so if anyone has a request post it.

BryanMelvin -> Re: Need A Map for a Battle??? (7/11/2002 5:59:21 AM)

Orzel Bialy - what map areas can you make?

Drex -> (7/11/2002 8:40:06 AM)

i collect maps for all my pbem games. i have all 5 of Jack Dionne's Brigade-size maps for instance. i like large maps with forests, meadows, hills etc. In other words a varied landscape. No cities but some villages.

Orzel Bialy -> Gotcha.... (7/11/2002 8:52:57 AM)

let me whip something up...I'll start it tonight in fact! ;)

Drex -> (7/11/2002 9:12:05 AM)

excellent! Give the map a title. I often send these maps to my opponents for their pbem play. remember I like large maps for manuevering.

OKW-73 -> (7/11/2002 11:30:20 AM)

How about making scenario(s) for my site? ;)

Orzel Bialy -> Scenarios.... (7/11/2002 7:37:43 PM)

Right now I'm in the midst of working on a short campaign that is taking a good portion of my spare time...so becoming a full...or even part time...scenario creator right now probably isn't going to happen. :( ( Creating maps isn't as bad as fine tuning battle forces!!! );)
In fact, with my own job and a family life...work on this project is already going much slower than I had hoped. Well, that and the fact that I'm tending to be a perfectionist to the point of distraction! :D
However, from time to time I do take these "breaks"...and a scenario or two does come into being. As we speak Goblin was going to play test one for me...perhaps once I get that one fine tuned I can send it your way. :)

Orzel Bialy -> Here you Go... (7/11/2002 8:09:04 PM)

Here is a small village map for you to look over.

It is in slot 203 of the map files...so if you already have maps there you might want to either rename this one or move the existing ones to a "storage" folder so you have them on hand if needed.
The map is labelled with some rather simplistic terms...mainly so Pbem players can use them in reference if posting AAR's. Feel free to rename them accordingly ( whatever nationality you desire for a given battle front ) if you so desire.
Let me know what you think. :)

Orzel Bialy -> Woodlands/Marsh (7/12/2002 1:40:12 AM)

Here's a map I created...perfect for those of you who are sick of big open tank country!!!;)

Designed with the Pripet Marshes/Finland in mind this map is more like a "land-o-lakes" terrain. :D Marsh and swamplands are surrounded by tall grass, rough terrain,mud....and a thick forest canopy all of which provides thousands of possible ambush sites!

A real killing ground for infantry battles...armor would not fair too well on this map.

Ok, what else can I cook up on the fly here? Hmmmmmm. :)

Drex -> new maps (7/12/2002 8:39:01 AM)

Orzel, your maps are excellent. I used the village map for two mirror battles with an opponent in the Blitkrieg ladder league. I just changed the start lines and added the victory hexes and Voila! The second map is definitely infantry but what a work of art. I will soon play it in the ladder league. thanks Orzel.

Orzel Bialy -> Glad to Hear.... (7/12/2002 9:33:58 AM)

the maps were acceptable. :)

The next one is a winter setting...a little more on the Russian steppe side. Winter landscapes usually take a bit longer...the first two were done after about three hours a piece...so this one might take a bit longer, a couple days or so.

For anyone else who downloaded the maps...feedback would be appreciated. That way I can cover something that might be missing...it's always good to have another point of view on projects! ;)

Hope everyone enjoys them as much as Drex seems to have!

Drex -> (7/12/2002 9:42:53 AM)

i would like to be a regular subscriber. I 'm not a big winter map fan. Most winter maps I've seen tend to be monotonous. However I am awaiting a good winter battle. In fact I haven't played the finnish contingent in quite a while. A good winter map might encourage this.

Orzel Bialy -> Here's a sample.... (7/12/2002 9:57:20 AM)

of a winter map for you to look over. It is the same map that Hellcat and I fought a Pbem battle titled "Winter Rage" on about a month ago.
The new map will look something like this one...but will have a bit more "eye-candy" to keep it from looking plain...which you are right about, since some of them sometimes looking too "blah" and boring. ;)

Drex -> wintger map (7/12/2002 10:35:14 AM)

this is a good winter map. I will try it out. How are you with hilly landscapes?

Orzel Bialy -> Hills are a bit... (7/12/2002 10:44:03 AM)

tricky...but I have made a map that covered a river valley in Greece circa winter 40'...which would have covered the Italian invasion period.
Let me know if you would like to see that one as well.

Drex -> (7/12/2002 10:58:07 AM)

Of course I would. It sounds tactically challenging. send it on.

Orzel Bialy -> Mountain map... (7/14/2002 11:05:26 AM)

this was me taking a crack at building a mountainous map...it's a river valley designed with Greece/Albania in mind.
This might be a tough map to fight over, as there is only one road to travel on...running across the length of the map.
Probably not the best of my efforts...as it was the first try using mainly hills...but it is different.

Orzel Bialy -> Winter Thaw..... (7/15/2002 5:30:28 AM)

map is about 3/4 done. Should be able to put the finishing touches to it sometime this evening, if all goes well. As the name suggests, this map is designed with the steppes of Russia in mind...around the time of early March. Snow is still on the ground but the first patches of grasslands are showing themselves...as is the mud! I'm pleased with it's look thus far...hope it catches other peoples eyes too.

As a whole I see the maps have each been downloaded several times...:) So it would seem that they are at least being looked at, if not enjoyed.

Drex, since you've been the only vocal member...is there anything else on your wish list? I appreciate it when I get feedback...it often helps give me direction on what I can improve on...or what people might be looking for. Let me know.

Ok, back to the grind. Watch this thread if you're interested in the "winter thaw" map...and maybe others. ;)

Drex -> (7/15/2002 6:07:41 AM)

I have DL'd all the maps so far. I like landscapes with forests and hills with plenty of room for armor. I like the idea of leaving the Vhexes to be placed by others. I will be waiting for the Winter thaw. Perhaps you would like to tackle the desert next. Not the deep desert but the coastal desert that has some relief and vegetation.

BryanMelvin -> Re: Winter Thaw..... (7/15/2002 7:16:49 AM)

Orzel, great maps :D

Would it be okay to use these for a scenario or two? :D

Marauder Mel

Orzel Bialy -> Use of Maps.... (7/15/2002 7:24:56 AM)

for scenarios is fine by me....throw a little line about me in the scenario "credits" for my vanity and that's enough for me. :D

Oh yeah....if you do use the maps I would like a copy of the scenario so I can see/play it too! ;)

I'll place your name on the Map too :cool:

Also - check the small village map - at the bridge - it has stone wall crossing the road ;)

Thanks for the Okay?

PS - You live in Poland or in USA?

Orzel Bialy -> (7/15/2002 7:38:01 AM)

have to look at the wall issue....hmmm.

As for where I live...the good ole US of A! :) I picked the White Eagle because of my mostly Polish (3/4) heritage. (the other 1/4 is made up of German and Ukrainian...some mix there eh?) :D

Can't wait to see how the maps are utilized! ;)

Drex -> (7/15/2002 7:59:44 AM)

Yes I noticed that stone wall too.. I'm playing two pbem matches on it and my vehicles have no problem crashing through though.

Orzel Bialy -> The Stone Wall.... (7/15/2002 8:21:13 AM)

feel free to edit it out of the road. I placed a wall across the river in the village to simulate the water-fall that most non-electric mills utilized to create torque. Any other wall was probably just a mis-hit with the mouse. :)

Drex...coastal North Africa will be next on the list. ;)

Drex -> (7/15/2002 8:48:03 AM)

All right Orzel! i love the desert.

Orzel Bialy -> winter thaw... (7/15/2002 9:12:25 AM)

Ok, there it is...winter thaw...the worse of the russian winter is coming to an end...Spring is on it's way.

Alright...off to make a few sand dunes!

Jack -> (7/20/2002 3:49:01 AM)

Orzel,
Thanks for the maps.

Orzel Bialy -> You're Welcome.... (7/20/2002 5:44:15 AM)

I've enjoyed sharing the maps....it's good to see them get downloaded and know that they are being used and appreciated. I just consider it my contribution to this fine game and forum.:D
Drex...North Africa is still on the board, just taking longer than expected. :( I'm somewhat picky about how they look and work and the desert tiles are not as forgiving as the other terrains...so it's probably one of the biggest mapping challenges I have taken on. (believe it or not!) But I will keep at it and get you a quality desert map as soon as I can.
Ok, back to the grind stone....any other requests out there???

Drex -> (7/20/2002 8:53:13 PM)

No problem Orzel. take the time to make to your standards. I'll be waiting.
