My tip of the day: Get paid for declaring war!
If you feel the need to declare war on the Dayhut empire, then check first if they are at war with anyone else. Contact their enemies and offer them to engage in war for a huge sum of money. I just got 200k cash from the Zenox Alliance for declaring war on the Dayhut, when I was about to declare war on them anyway. :)

I didn't even know you can do that. I need to spend more time in the diplomacy screen. Thanks this is a great tip.

Kamonrius -> RE: Did you know? (4/16/2010 5:46:37 PM)

Its amazing how...logical and comlpex this game can be if you just sit down with it and NOT worry about how the surface looks.....

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 1:24:10 AM)

did u know that u can circumvent the early game ship size limit? say you have a 330 size destroyer design which u want to make but cannot due to your low tech (200 max). just make a skeleton destroyer design (ship types must be the same) that is below 200 but contains some of the parts needed for the 330 design then when it builds, simply retrofit it to the other design. cool huh?

same goes for imported designs. Say you have a design with torp tech and 3rd level shields/engines in a game and u save the ship design list. When u start a new game and load that list u can then retrofit your current ships to the upgraded designs EVEN if you do not possess the tech yet! handy!

Wicky -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 6:52:51 PM)

I hereby request my title be changed from "Matrix Trooper" to "Galactic Hero" if you want me to post my 3rd tip of the day.
You guys all know me, I have posted the tip about onion-like stations which can fire and defend when only 10% of construction is complete.
You know I posted how to reap money from other empires for declaring wars, which you were going to declare anway.

But now, on 17 March of 2010, I have discovered the ULTIMATE TIP... the gigantic bombastic tip that will save you dozens of hours of micromanagement... If you read this tip, it will be no more difficult to conquer 70 enemy colonies and refill your troop transports than snapping your finger and it's done. I'm not kidding, it will save you countless hours of micromanaging, and I promise that you will fall from your chair when you read it!!!!
It is the title "galactic hero" bestowed upon me, that I require to post this tip. So please beg the moderators to give it to me, then I will write it down :)
If you deem my tip average or just simply good, nothing exceptional, then you can give me the title "average joe" or whatever, but that won't happen since it really is THAT good!

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 6:57:44 PM)

lemme guess....the 'automate all' option? lol!

Wicky -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 7:08:11 PM)

Arr, it's very improbably that you guess my tip!
But I'll give you a clue, it's a trick to have the AI do exactly what you want it to do, when it was designed to do something totally different in the first place :)

Kamonrius -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 7:11:46 PM)

Your supposed to give the Tip THEN request name...not the other way around [:D] then you arent galactic Hero because looking for a reward or else no Tip THAT IS NOT HERO.

BigWolfChris -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 7:23:33 PM)

Plus, I highly doubt anyone would change your title, and I'm pretty sure you'd know that, so I'm thinking you're pulling people's legs [:'(] lol

Wicky -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 7:58:45 PM)

nop, this tip is just too good to give away for free :)
i tell ya, in my current game i had about 80 colonies and the dayhut empire had 117.
I assigned all my ships to 10 fleets, with troop transports and everything and started conquering... problem was, by the time i had captured 10 they had colonized another 20 planets!
So hours later, I had 90 colonies and they had 127! It was a herculean task to defeat them... I gave up. But then I slept a couple of nights over it and discovered something, that was pan-galactic, interdimensional - so kewl, that you would fall off your chair if you heard it. It is basically the reduction of many hours of microing your fleets to 5 mouseclicks. That good it is :)

If I see the title "Galactic Hero" below my name on the left, I'll write it down. And if it was just a prank to pull your leg, you can title me "average joe" and ban me from the forums, I'm not kidding you :)

Kamonrius -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 8:05:59 PM)

.........................................This is DID YOU KNOW...not DID YOU KNOW? OH YOU DONT GIVE ME THIS AND THEN YOU'LL KNOW.........then tell us about something else then post something useful [8|][:D]

Wade1000 -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 8:12:42 PM)

It probably has something to do with some bug making the AI opponent surrender, sell, or trade planets to you.

Yeah you first! Top my 2 past tips and then we'll talk :)

Free larger ships. Free higher components.
Good god. Codeforce, fix this please.

Wicky -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 8:19:20 PM)

Maybe. You'll never know, until I get the title "galactic hero" below my name to the left! :)

But, anyone used to playing Civilization 4, Galactic Civilizations 2, or similiar games should know of this and try it in new games.

Wade1000 -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 8:37:29 PM)

Wicky, someone else will eventually discover what you say, or they already have. They will eventually post it and they will be the first. If you then claim that that is what you were talking about then you will seem foolish.

Nameless -> RE: Did you know? (4/17/2010 8:52:56 PM)

And here is my tip:
If ((troopTransportAutomanage == true) && (troopTransportFleet == none))
   then troopTransportLoadTroops == anyYourPlanet

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 8:50:51 AM)

what nameless meant to say was automated troop ships that are not in a fleet fill themselves up without you babysitting them

If you have to ask to be a "galactic hero", you aren't a galactic hero... then you're not even elite guard. Keep the tip.

Fishman -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 9:53:20 AM)

Did you know: You can type the word "dog" by pressing the keys "D", "O", and "G", in that order?

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 11:24:09 AM)

i would think these forum rankings are based on post count no?

Anthropoid -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 1:10:20 PM)

Hmmph! . . . Galactic heroes . . . Posts not make one great [:D]

Luke Meets a Great Warrior

Geroj -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 1:40:17 PM)

Did you know that acceleration is based on number of engines and ship mass, but it is also related to reactor output? (without sufficient excess of energy you cant increase acceleration only with engines)

Did you know that hyperdrives will not travel at max speed if excess energy output is lower as needed (hyperdrives have statistic only for max speed and jumping time interval... unfortunately there is no info about needed power for max speed)

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 1:43:54 PM)

after the max speed portion of the graph the purple part will show you what is the warp speed of your ship and the energy used while in warp.

Geroj -> RE: Did you know? (4/18/2010 1:58:04 PM)

yeah thats true but you will have that info only when you place hyperdrive and reactor with sufficient power output in design... if the excess energy output is lower than needed for max warp you have to palce another reactor and then charcteristic will show amount of energy needed for max warp

that info is not hard to obtain but it will be handy to have it without experiments (in my case i never check max warp speed and when i find out that my ships are slow while warping i assumed that this info will help also others [:)] )

Acceleration isn't dependant on reactor output directly, but you need excess output equal to the maximum draw of the drives on full burn. Otherwise your thrusters don't fire and become useless deadweight that serve no function on your ship. This is an extremely unusual condition, however, since unless your ship is monstrously huge, conventional thrusters pretty much never draw as much power as your hyperdrive.

Sliverine -> RE: Did you know? (4/20/2010 2:54:20 AM)

another did you know: that if you put med and recreation facilities on a star base and built that starbase on a planet via the planets interface, the bonuses will not be applied? Only way for planets to get bonus is via a spaceport equipped with said structures.

Fishman -> RE: Did you know? (4/20/2010 5:08:28 AM)

That's supposed to be fixed in the next patch.

Drusek -> RE: Did you know? (4/20/2010 9:11:59 AM)

Did you know that...
1. Your escort ships can be much bigger than capitals. That way you can stick with only one class for your main military ship from the beginning of the game and just retrofit to later and bigger designs. You can start with capital with size of 100 or end up with escort with size of 2000.
2. Spaceports build on planets don't need ANY cargo bay to be fully functional.
3. Spaceports build on planets need ONLY ONE mandatory fuel component.
4. Building some small spaceport on planets without any, with resort and medical component is very lucrative for your empire.
5. Star bases just need only one reactor and the rest of energy should be acquired from energy collectors.
6. Give your non-military ships shields and set their orders to evade stronger and standoff weaker enemies and only escape when shields are down to 50% - that way they will not run when it's not really necessary.

Don't do that with escorts. That pirate thing will murder you.

I set them to fight to the death, otherwise we'll never get those old crappy versions scrapped. Plus, if you set them to run away, they tend to fail their missions, and the entire mass gets confused.
