Patrol Stations How about the ability to build a patrol - station, which acts as the hub of law enforcement in a given area (area defined by the amount of stations compared to systems, coordinates the escorting etc..) (perhaps patrol stations could even reduce local corruption values?) In a way a patrol station would not be unlike a spaceport in its function, except instead of gathering resources it manages the Empires escorting / law enforcement services. -The reason for a patrol station would be that it functions as a hub for law enforcement vessels to rearm and refuel. Leaving the normal space port to commercial private traffic. The Patrol station could also be used to measure the presence of the central government in a system, thus reducing corruption / ineffiency. In essence i'm proposing an orbital Police station. Why shouldn't it be part of the Space Port? Because It would inhibit commercial traffic. It serves as a repair & resupply station for Escorts and Empire Patrols. Well the idea is that it represents a branch of the central government rather than the planetary government, thus being a direct link to your Rulers administration rather than having to go through the planetary and regional administration. It also allows the Space Port to act as a space port; to build and be used for the delivery of resources. (preventing traffic jams etc, it should increase your resource gathering efficiency? Escorts and other State vessel woudn't have to dock there anymore) Plust it would be neat to see rogue civilian ships & pirates gettin caught, escorted there and dismantled. This would also increase civilian demand for ships over time [:D] Fleet Command Station(s) The ability to build a Fleet Command - station which would serve as the center point of all communications for one or perhaps several of the Empire's fleets. -The Fleet Command Station would act as a strategic hub for the fleet(s) in space, though you're right this could also be planet side. (Does capturing a fleet homeworld do anything?) Shouldn't it leave the fleet's administration etc. in a mess? Can a fleet even be entirely spaceship based? Why shoudn't it be part of the Space Port? Because its a military command center that warrants far heavier protection that a space port would potentially offer. Mainly to give fleets a tangible spacial administration center. Sort of like a super-high military command center. [&o] Such stations would also be prime tactical targets, thus introducing many new strategies. Want to reduce an Empire's income? Pick of their escorts, bomb their mining bases, take out space ports or remove their patrol efficiency by destroying patrol stations. (perhaps even in several incarnations, small, medium, large?) Want to throw their fleets into dissaray without risking a decisive battle? Destroy their fleet command centers and severly limit your opponents ability to coordinate strike fleets. (You should have fortified that command center! ) Ofcourse this would tie in nicely to the spying system as well! You don't even need to risk ships to hurt another empires infrastucture, just sabotage the patrol or fleet stations! That'l give them a hard time for a while! Are there any practical concerns against this? Is it feasable to add new structures?
