Katana -> (8/6/2002 9:50:05 PM)

More fighting in town, another squad chased out.

Para's are making a stand, taking as many French with them as they can. (one hotchkiss, half a mech squad ;) )

Vetkin -> (8/6/2002 11:00:52 PM)

**** those paratroopers!!!!!!!!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

I know its probably not smart to tell you this but 2 more squads of Mech Infantry and a R-35 is coming, and your paratroopers are gonna DIE! (I hope):mad:

Up front, the attack down south HAS stalled. I can see only 1 Mark IV and 2 half-tracks. However, up north, the town is being overrun by infantry. Maybe the German foot troops will succeed where the vaunted Panzers have failed??

The 88-mm cannons evade my artillery fire once again. :o Where are they!?

This is getting really really good. I hate those paratroopers.
They have no chance in hell of taking any VHes though, but God knows how much damage and annoyance they have caused!:mad: However, they have truly, sincerely earned the respect of the French army. We will honor the fallen Fallschmirjer (is that how its spelled?) beside our fallen Legionnaires side by side and salute.
:)

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/7/2002 3:57:50 AM)

Yeah, excellent fight.
Guess this is the sort of thing that spurred on development of the Tiger (hail!). Time is running out for the Panzerkampfgruppe and they'd better find a way to deal with the remaining Chars...

OTOH the paratroopers have performed WAY beyond expectation, Iron Crosses all round, I'd say.

88s are waiting for a clear shot...

Vetkin -> (8/7/2002 9:47:49 PM)

Nothing much happening this turn except for another blown half-track down south. Your kampfgruppe south is being decimateD! (If you don't mind me saying so) BUT.... I think you still have enough vehicles left to force a breakthrough...maybe

I can do nothing behind the lines as a whole platoon of paratroopers converge and regroup. I wonder how much fight is left in them...

Sorry for the delay, duty calls :)

Katana -> (8/7/2002 10:32:26 PM)

Kampfgruppe south is definitely in trouble, fortunately they don't have far to go. And once the wunderguns have cleared the hill in the north, they'll be sure to come over and help out.
Won't take long...

Paratroopers whack another Hotchkiss and take up defensive position as one of them spots an R35 approaching from the east.

Your turn :)

Vetkin -> (8/7/2002 11:04:32 PM)

And where if I may ask is the file? :)

Katana -> (8/7/2002 11:10:34 PM)

whoops.

Right here

Vetkin -> (8/7/2002 11:47:44 PM)

I destroy another half-track down south with a Char and a PzIV with a R-35! (Frontal hiT!) Those early Mark IVs (D) are pretty flimsy...

Up north, I hit another Mark IV with direct fire from a 75mm cannon. Nothing. (Scratch the above comment)

The two 88s are raining death on my troops, I just hope the French hold the line...especially in the north... the village is basically yours i think, not much gonna be there for your troops to eat though, what with my fleeing tanks crashing into the buildings and the artillery from both sides pounding them to dust.. hehe :)

I think I got some 75mm on one of your 88s... maybe that would discourage the crew...

behind the lines, it is suspiciously quiet......

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/8/2002 1:50:47 AM)

On the northern hill another Char dies by 88 fire, Panzers rush forward, supported by AT and howitzers.

The attack in the south is going nowhere, but neither are the French defenders. Two tanks immobilized by engineers.
BTW that HT you finally blew up had been sitting there for quite a while, without guns, or tracks :p

Way out west, a mortar crew loads their very last HE shell, praying for some luck as they line up the tube on the target.
A muffled bang is heard as the weapon is fired. Several dozen German heads turn as they try to follow it's trajectory up, and up, and up, over the top, coming down, faster,
faster
straight
down
the
R35 top hatch
:D :D :D :D

One paratrooper has made it to the top of the hill and is waving at her boyfriend, one of the PzII commanders. Yoohooo, over
here liebchen! The view is wunderbar!:D

Vetkin -> (8/8/2002 10:08:02 AM)

Those paratroopers sightseeing on top of the hill won't last very long, not with 60mm shells falling on them and a hotchkiss from around 300 meters away firing away hehehehe

Up front, the situation up north is critical. I don't know if they will hold for one more turn...

Tanks from the South are rushing to flank the panzer gruppe up north which has formed a dangerous salient which threatens to break my line :mad:

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/8/2002 8:45:24 PM)

Not a lot of action this turn, Panzers are moving inexorably forward, Paratroopers still holding, troops creeping along in the south, 88 taking aim...

Your turn

Vetkin -> (8/8/2002 11:03:00 PM)

The German tank gruppe on the north seem unstoppable. A 75mm artillery piece fires a round at a Mark IV but the HE anti-personnel shot just bounces off the armor.

I don't see any of your paratroopers, can they be bunkering down to await the panzerS from the fronT? Well, i'll tell you this now... they'll never meet them, so better surrender :D

Down south I rip apart crewmen for lack of a better target haha :)

My tanks are rushing north but are impeded by the constant barrage of 88mm.

Will they get there in time???

How many turns does this game last? :D

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/8/2002 11:55:02 PM)

German Panzers roll over the French positions in the north. They meet with little resistance. One brave AT? crew assaults a halftrack and succeeds.
The central ridge looks like an anthill, lots of French troops running around. Guess that barrage woke them up ;)
In the south I return the favour, one less char to worry about.
More shots are exchanged, then, in an impressive charge a MC squad rushes the objective and scares the **** out of the defending legionnairs.
Paratroopers have fitted bajonets and are about to get midieval on the French infantry :mad:

8 turns to go :)

Vetkin -> (8/9/2002 12:23:23 AM)

MON DIEU!!!

The French line is broken- in 2 placeS!!

The northern breakthrough is almost total. It's up to an understrength platoon of my legionnaires now... plus 2 60mm fire support mortars who have moved from their entrenched positions to fire directly at the Panzers. Even the Hotchkiss fires at the Mark IVs, scratching the paint off one. :D

Down South, a MC squad has taken some of the VHes and routed 2 legionnaire squads. It is supported by a half-track... the last but still effective remnants of Katana's army gruppe south. Relief will be on the way. At least this breakthrough CAN be contained.

The situation behind the lines has erupted into utter chaos. The brave but foolish French mech squad, seeing the enemy fix bayonets, decide to charge the enemy first, firing as they go. However, they are beaten back by the elite German paratroopers.

It seems even my southern hill behind the lines will be taken soon...

It is not over however, the French army still has several tanks at their disposal. These will be used to contain breakthrough South. May God help the men in the northern line.

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/9/2002 3:13:37 AM)

Hey, this overrun thing really works!:D
The French turn into so much track grease as the Panzers roll across the hill. The few troops that haven't fled or been killed yet cower under a hail of machinegun fire. Infantry is following close behind to prevent more heroics from any survivors.

One R35, stuck in a field engages in a duel with one of the 88s, and survives :eek: Some carefully placed smoke renders it impotent to do any further damage.

The Hell's Angels figured they have time to ravage a couple of French chick before the tanks arrive. If they make it past the 88 shooting gallery, that is.;)

Paratroopers just radioed in: Primary objetive secure. Moving out to secondary.:D

Your turn

Vetkin -> (8/9/2002 9:45:26 AM)

Nein mein freund, your northern breakthrough has come at a great cost and is now faltering. One out of 3 German Mark IVs are pounded by 75mm field artillery, scaring the crew and forcing them to abandon before their heavily dented vehicle explodes. The effort up north is tremendous as the French reorganize to push back the Germans. Two Chars take position.

Down south, I am sending something to take back what is rightfully mine.

No sign of the paratroopers. I don't have the resources available to retake MY lower rear hexes though, have to defend my last village at all costs. Those paratroopers will learn a lesson in humility :D

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/9/2002 4:36:04 PM)

Nah, they only popped out to see if there was any paint left on their tank.
Regrouping to take on the remaining french on the other side of the road. Managed to shift that Hotchkiss that's been pestering me so long.
Most of the arty is busy reloading. Hope I can get some tubes back online to support the paratroopers heading for the village in the northwest.

Still quiet in the south...

Vetkin -> (8/9/2002 9:02:04 PM)

Nothing will get through in the North. A barrage of 60mm shells damage the suspension of a Mark IV. 2 more Mark IVs to destroy and i would be able to retake the north.

Troops are still moving to the South, a MC squad is spotted and fired upon by a supporting 60mm mortar group. The counterattack is on the way.

Nobody will be there to help your paratroopers Katana. Surrender! There is no point in wasting more lives! :D

The Maginot line has been breached, except for this small part of Legionnaire battle group Vetkin. Will they be able to hold against the remnants of the once-mighty panzergruppe?

My troops and yours are pretty beat up. You are overextended I think and your attack has faltered. Better retreat them all now before I finish them off :D

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/9/2002 9:38:30 PM)

It's gonna be tight, but I can still get at those Vhexes, provided my tank crews keep their cool. The constant pounding isn't doing much damage, but it's getting on their nerves.

Elsewhere things have quieted down a bit, seems the French are all hiding.

Vetkin -> (8/9/2002 11:30:15 PM)

Another Mark IV goes up in flames as a 47mm shell goes right through the tank straight to its engine.

Still have to clear out that 88mm gun though which has moved right past the village out into the open and is flanked by the last Mark IV (I hope)

Down South, the attack will proceed as planned even though my 60mm support squad retreats.

A one on one duel between an immobilized Char Bis and an immobilized (no more transport I think?) 88mm is taking place in the middle, near the village.

It seems its up to your paratroopers now. Your kampfgruppe is almost totally decimated. There is no shame in surrender :D

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/10/2002 1:46:29 AM)

BWAHAHAHAA

Surrender? to the French?
Watch that truck as it expresses my contempt for the French army.:D

Vetkin -> (8/10/2002 11:16:26 AM)

Yes, surrender to the French :D

There is no hope!!! hehehehe :p

I retake the hexes your truck sneakily took (to garner a few extra points I bet) :D

Anyways, your situation is next to hopeless, I'm gonna take the southern Vhexes very soon.

The middle WILL hold no matter what, even with that 88 in my face :rolleyes:

Some helpful locals also supplied cheese and wine to the long immobilized Char in the village despite it smashing one of their buildings. This gave the crew some inspiration and the tank is fixed. Voila!

Your last Mark IV hiding behind the Northern-most hill will be destroyed soon. hehehehe Better move it :p

After this battle is over, the French will be 2 88mm cannon and 1 Mark IV tank stronger hahahaha :D (Abandoned stuff :D)

Back to you :D

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/10/2002 5:39:48 PM)

Actually, the truck was looking for infantry. I know there's still some left on that hill. Figured I'd get them to shoot to expose themselves to counterfire, or failing that kill them with op fire as they move to retake the VHs. Didn't quite work out :rolleyes:

Vetkin -> (8/10/2002 7:27:37 PM)

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Your remaining forces are putting up a good fight!!!

My last little R-35 which was supposed to take back the south is destroyed by a hidden airborne squad. The Panhard forces a MC squad to retreat. This MC squad has been the hero of your Southern forces. He forced some legionnaires to retreat at the middle of the battle and even now late in the battle, the squad has terminated a 60mm. :mad:

I hope your 88mm on the road stays suppressed.

Your Turn

Katana -> (8/10/2002 9:49:47 PM)

That MC squad has been stuck in a cornfield turn 1-20 or so. That's why they're still around. :D
Let's finish this.

Katana -> (8/10/2002 10:21:08 PM)

About that rematch...

How about Italy vs GB?
Say, summer of 42, before they start fielding German and US equipment.
Something a little bigger than this battle, 4-5000 points or something.

Jeffery1965 -> Jeff vs Katana (8/10/2002 11:15:08 PM)

Ok ..Katana , here is the battle ...I am taking the German ..and..you play Russian ..go and defend your motherland ........

Katana -> (8/10/2002 11:36:15 PM)

Cool :cool:

Just ignore the PM reply I just sent, then.

Vetkin -> (8/10/2002 11:57:16 PM)

Hm? where did that come from? :rolleyes:

Here's the turn,

Which side do you want to play? Italians or Brits? Make the battle on this same slot (email6) after we finish this.

Katana -> (8/11/2002 12:06:46 AM)

There's something on page 1 of this thread.

As for our next game: I figured I let you beat up on a weak army for a change :D Ie, I'll take Italy.
Also, I had the impression that, like me you're still trying out different armies.
Anyway, back to killing French ;)
