Tatoune -> Question about mission (5/20/2010 2:23:08 AM)

I wonder what is the mission order for hitting ships in ports or at anchors. When I set port strike, I only get port damage but no ship damage and i'm pretty sure there are ships in there. And when I select Naval Attack, I can't choose a target as port.

Current DL 9/10...

What should I do to hit those ships?

BTW, I've got so much fun with this game

What altitude are your bombers at? Even a ship at anchor is hard to hit from 23K.

jetjockey -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 3:21:37 AM)

OK! Altitudes looks good. Numbers look good. My only guess is Fog of War. In Aug '42 your bombers may not have been able to actually hit anything (5/1,2,1), but they would have at least attacked; no attacks tells me no one was home. Me thinks rece-pilot tell big fib. A DL of 9/10 is pretty good; what does your cursor tell you when placed over the port's anchor?

Tatoune -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 3:47:33 AM)

the cursor tells me that there is no ships, but coastwatcher tells me for couple of turns there is 3 or 4 ships at the port.

And if I cant rely on cause of FOW,... coastwatcher should be considered useless? even with DL 9/10?

bradfordkay -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 3:59:30 AM)

It depends upon whether you are trying to hit Task Forces in port or ships that have been disbanded in the port.

In order to hit TFs in a port, your squadrons need to be set for Naval Attack. There is no guarantee that the squadrons will attack the TFs that you want them to attack, as Naval Attack targeting is subject to several modifiers. I have noticed, however, that TFs in port seem to be chosen more often that TFs at sea (easier to hit them, I guess).

In order to hit ships disbanded in port, your squadrons need to be set for port attack. There is a chance that ships in port will be targeted in a port attack, but no guarantee. It's a pretty good chance, and the more ships in port it seems the greater the chance that any bomber will target one.

You can set your squadrons to Naval Attack with Port Attack as the secondary mission. That would give you at chance at ships in either mode.

Tatoune -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 4:11:50 AM)

Wow, thanks

jetjockey -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 4:18:58 AM)

FOW is a tricky thing. When playing against the AI, if something interesting happens, I will sometimes switch sides just to see what the other "guy" is seeing. I have on several occasions seen reports of air attacks on TFs that did not really exist! I do not trust coastwatchers for targeting information, but they will draw the attention of a rece-flight or nav-search mission; as a general rule, I do not trust any "sighting" that does not generate a map symbol. Run your own recon. As a JFB I will split a Kate squadron, using one or more of it's components to run recon missions of the target hex and any other hex that interests me; Jakes work as well.

topeverest -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 1:04:53 PM)

Pretty sure you glide bombed if you altitude was 21K. Less accurate if you did have this range, even with DB's. 11-15K for sure will DB.

crsutton -> RE: Question about mission (5/20/2010 5:04:45 PM)

"Weather in hex, light rain" "Weather in hex, severe storms"

Nuff said.[:-]
