This is a pretty small update, if you have v1.4 already, just download the patch.

Warning, the Tamarians make very little sense during diplomacy. Those familiar with the show will know they are a race who communicate in metaphor, using stories of their history and experience. It's not perfect as some of the dialog is located in the base dialog file. I haven't got around to playing with that yet.

Troop images look better without a white background.

Much bigger list of system names, some of them even have their Bayer name alonside.

That's something I've been struggling with. I would very much appreciate if you could make me a couple of .png's, maybe a troop pic also would be awesome.

Here's what i'm using just now. It's not quite got the menacing 'we are a galactic super power' feel to it.[:D]

Haha in one subliminal way it does convey that "we are so powerful and untouchable that we can just sit and relax in our couches with some earl gray" feel XD

adecoy95 -> RE: [WIP] The Romulan Star Empire (7/29/2010 9:50:18 PM)

what was your reason for giving the klingon empire +10% planetary income?

The trade bonus of 10% was given to reflect how diverse Klingons are. Most want to become warriors, but some don't. They are also more sociable than Romulans or Cardassians, thus more likely to trade goods with other races.

Should I decrease this to 5%? My testing with this mod has been quite limited. I've only gone deep into a game once and it seems pretty well balanced, but looking at the figures, Klingons maybe have a bit too much money.

Anyway I'll change it if I'm given sufficient reason to change it. I welcome all critisims and reports as long as they provide constructive info.

One thing that should be changed is the Dominion's reproduction rate which at present is set to 1.0. With the new rules for colonization in beta 1.0.6.0, this handicaps them a bit.

adecoy95 -> RE: [WIP] The Romulan Star Empire (7/30/2010 12:04:26 AM)

i wasn't asking for change i was just curious as to why, thanks for letting me know :D

the only criticism i have is that not all the races seem to have as good a bonus as others, and the race specific techs and governments are not used. but thats pretty much small potatoes, i like the mod.

also, my klingon empire is doing fantastic. i went all out war with them, i have taken two homeworlds sofar which has put me at a huge income advantage, i am going to take out the ferengi empire, their scheeming and plotting will be no match for our battle hardened ground forces

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (7/30/2010 1:05:25 AM)

Thanks for the report, adecoy95.

Hopefully with more mod support, we can get special governments for modded races. I was going to add special tech, but didn't think it was too important or appropriate for Star Trek. I would like to give the Romulans and Klingons a special cloking device but there is no special tech for that. Again, more mod support is required. As for the race bonuses, I would like to do alot more work on them. Note that some races are supposed to be 'Minor' races, ie they shouldn't be rivals of the big empires like the Federation, Romulans, Klingons and Dominion.

I was going to do a guide for setting up the game, but figured no-one wants me telling them what to do with their game. Just a case of making the Cardassians powerful, but not as much as Romulans, but more so than the Gorn. That kind of thing. I'm not a big fan of having 20 powerful races battling for the scraps of free space only a few years into the game. So that's what I'm trying to do with this mod.

Next update will include:-

- Ship design names
- Rebalanced race bonuses
- Perhaps some special tech (this is of course the vanilla special tech. So Federation could have NovaCore reactor)
- More system names

Tophat1815 -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (7/30/2010 3:21:08 AM)

What we need is the racial specific Flag icons for the Trek races! muhahahaha! Can you do it old fellow? It'd add to the immersion factor. Also do your Feds shipset please.

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (7/30/2010 11:44:37 AM)

Tophat, I've already done all that, man.[:D]

For the flagshapes, You can find it in with the rest of the stuff. It's next to shipImages, troopImages and all that, and the Federation ships are there too, did them weeks ago.[:D]

Just smack me with a large stick when I make ignorant posts! Sorry,should have read and "LOOKED" more closely!

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (7/30/2010 4:23:22 PM)

It's actually a good thing you brought this up, because I checked the zip file to make sure and realised that I forgot to include the Dominion flag. Here it is for anyone wanting it -

Rising-Sun -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.2 (8/4/2010 12:56:47 AM)

Let me know when you finish moddin this, then i buy the game lol. I very much like playing Star Trek, and didnt like GalCiv:Dread Lord, someone gave up the mod :(

Only races i would be interesting playing is Romulans and the Borgs :)

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.2 (8/4/2010 1:30:59 AM)

Come on RisingSun, splash the cash. You don't know what your missing![;)]

I played the GalCiv Star Trek mod, though I did like it, I think this is one is better. Maybe I'm a bit biased though![:D]

tjhkkr -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.2 (8/4/2010 6:28:03 AM)

Rising Sun:
I am a big SW fan, in case the people in this field did not know. But Igard's Star Trek mod is good. Normally when I think ST, I think [>:] but he did a good job. I am the only goof I know who runs ST ships in a SW universe.

And as far as the game itself: this last set of fixes has really stabilized the game. I am hoping now they will open a few more things for us to tinker with.
If you do not have a lot of money, wait a bit. But if you have a few bucks, it is worth it.

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/4/2010 1:31:57 PM)

New systems file with 575 Star Trek systems:-

tjhkkr -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/4/2010 5:35:10 PM)

As always, Igard, that is sharp!  [&o]

Rising-Sun -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/10/2010 2:09:52 PM)

Well i cant do anything right now, going to move 1200 miles. starting a new life elsewhere and take time to get settled down. Looking forward to get it someday :) and thank for put effort into it. I have skills on modding, graphic, sound themes and other issues, but cant do anything atm :(

Oh by the way, if you havent played Star Trek Online, dont get it lol. Not worth it, wait a year or longer til they add more details, beside it still sucks.

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/10/2010 9:26:49 PM)

Quite understandable, RS. Good luck with the move and I hope your new home is to your liking and you settle in happily.

I don't like the look of ST online. I don't think cryptic has done a good job with the ground based stuff. The space combat looks interesting, but it's not the way I envisioned the game.

Also according to the story, the Romulan Empire has been conquered by the Klingons! Very sad indeed.

Anguille -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/11/2010 10:28:22 AM)

Mmh...looks this is what i will be downloading tonigth...it's been too long since my Klingons waged war...

adecoy95 -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/13/2010 5:03:25 AM)

im getting some sort of combobox error when i try to start a new game after redownloading 1.4a

nevermind, forgot to d/l patch

Brainsucker -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/13/2010 9:19:38 AM)

Forgive me Igard, I have download all star trek mods in this forum, mix them together, change your mod a lot and add Ranger, Minuteman, Daedalus and several vulcan ships to my modified mod.

My aim is to recreate Star Trek Legacy. From the era of Archer to Voyager and beyond. And I have found the solution for it (but only for Federation side).

What I did is to put several pictures to the "Other" sub-dir in "Image" directory. Not in customization directory. I make the family no.7 to unuseable by the other races and viola. I get enough Federation ships image to represent the Federation ship from the Archer era to TNG era.

I change a lot of races atributes too. But don't worry, I don't publish it anywhere.

My ship designs :

game start :
- Escort
- Explorer Class (NX-Class image)

Early Era :
- Destroyer Class (Intrepid Type class Image)
- Frigate Class (Minuteman Class Image)
- Cruiser Class (Daedalus Class Image)

Early to Medium Era :
- Frigate Class ( Centour Class Image)
- Destroyer Class (Apollo Class Image <-- I take it from the SE 5 Star Trek shipset)
- Cruiser Class (Ranger Class Image)

Medium Era :
- Escort Class (Oberth Class Image)
- Frigate Class (Yamato Class Image)
- Destroyer Class (Miranda Class Image)
- Cruiser Class (Constitution Class Image)
- Capital Class (Excelsior Class Image)

end game era :
Well I haven't reach end game era yet

That's what's so great about Distant Worlds, you can make changes so easily. Have fun with it that's what it's all about.

Don't worry, Brainsucker. Go ahead and upload it. You can start a new thread or post it here if you like. Don't worry about using the images from my mod as long as you state that's where you got them. All my stuff is hosted at same site I got the images from so there should be no problems. Make sure you credit any of the other Star Trek modders, ConfilctX, drillerman etc.[:)]

Brainsucker -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/15/2010 12:06:21 PM)

err... nope. I won't upload it as I don't create it myself. Plus, Unlike the Star Trek mod in the forum, my modified Star Trek is not presentative nor balanced.

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/15/2010 1:26:16 PM)

Ok, that's understandable if you don't feel as though it's ready. If you decide to work on it a bit more and feel it's to your liking, you know what to do.[;)]

adecoy95 -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/16/2010 12:03:39 AM)

ok i found out why i was getting wierd crashes, turns out if you manually add empires when creating a new game and then change to this mod, there are horrible repeated errors unless you remove all of the manually added races from the list, probably because it still had the orginial races and names in it

WoodMan -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/16/2010 12:10:51 AM)

I get same problem with my mod, make sure you clear that list before switching to a mod with different races, or you will get 1 error per every DW race that has been replaced (in otherwords 20), it might be 2 errors per race even [:D]

But when you click through them all, it takes a while, game should run fine afterwards.

Brainsucker -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/16/2010 12:50:06 AM)

I get the same problem, but has find the solution

it is for windows XP though

Just open \document and setting\a directory\application data\code force limited\distant worlds\1.0.6.0\

and delete defaultoptions file

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/16/2010 12:36:45 PM)

This problem occurs with every mod, it's just an annoying bug and shouldn't result in CTD. As WoodMan says you can delete each empire in the other empires screen, but it takes a while since the error keeps popping up. If there are 15 empires there will be 15 warnings until you delete one, then there will be 14 warnings etc.

I always select start a new game and go to the Other Empires screen and delete all the empires before quitting back to the main menu and changing the theme.

Does that delete anything else? I don't want to keep changing the option settings too.

Brainsucker -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/18/2010 2:03:03 AM)

It delete all option and make it to default. But still convinience than to keep deleting the empire the other empire screen

ehsumrell1 -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/18/2010 8:16:39 AM)

Fantastic work Igard! As a Noob to Distant Worlds, I think a set-up guide would be appreciated. Especially
since it would greatly extend playability. Anyway....just my two bars of gold-pressed latinum worth!

Igard -> RE: [REL] TRSE Star Trek Mod v1.4a (8/18/2010 10:38:15 AM)

Welcome, ehsumrell1. Glad you like the mod!

If by a set up guide, you mean what settings for each government etc. here's what I suggested earlier on page 2 with a few updated alterations:

At the galaxy screen;

Set the galaxy size to something pretty big, I always play on 1400.
Planet quality = normal, independant life = plentiful
Expansion = starting - This will ensure none of the independants are larger than they should be.
Aggression = restless/unstable - Hopefully this will make the less friendly races stop trading with you.
Research = very slow, space creatures = few, pirates = few

Your empire screen;
Home system = normal, size/tech level = This depends on which empire you choose
corruption = normal - unless you're ferengi, then crank it up a bit

Other Empires;

Race --------------------------Government ---------size -----------tech
Breen Confederacy--------------Despotism -------expanding -----Enhanced
Cardassian Union---------------Despotism -------expanding -----Advanced
Dominion-----------------------Dictatorship ----Mature --------Highly Advanced
United Federation of Planets---Democracy -------Mature --------Highly Advanced
Ferengi Alliance --------------Democracy -------expanding -----Advanced
Gorn Hegemony------------------Feudalism -------expanding -----Enhanced
Klingon Empire-----------------Feudalism -------mature --------Advanced
Romulan Star Empire------------Republic --------mature --------Highly Advanced

For all other minor races, you should set to starting/expanding and basic/enhanced.

Here are the names and governments I use for the other minor empires, some of them I got from memory beta;

Acamarian Clans ------------------ Feudalism
Bajoran Assembly ----------------- Democracy
Caldonina Republic --------------- Republic
Chalnoth Realm ------------------- Feudalism
Kressari Union ------------------- Monarchy
Ktarian Federation --------------- Republic
Lissepian Alliance --------------- Despotism
Lurian Kingdom ------------------- Monarchy
Takaran Authority ---------------- Republic
Talarian Confederation------------ Feudalism
Children of Tama ----------------- Republic (Tamarians)
Yridian Kingdom ------------------ Monarchy

Also, you should edit the race bias. This can only be changed via the in-game editor. The editor button is the one in the top right of the screen. Open the 'Edit Empires' button at the bottom of the game editor window. You should now have a list of the empires in the galaxy. If you click 'Edit Empire' you should see a slightly different list of empires at the right there should be a column called 'bias', change this accordingly (Klingons should hate Romulans, Romulans should hate Klingons, Bajorans hate Cardassians etc).

Hope this is all useful![:)]
