Just picked up Blood Bowl and Left for Dead 2 for £15 [:D]

Thanks for the heads up

Grim.Reaper -> RE: Steam sale (6/26/2010 11:59:41 PM)

If you have any desire for HOI3, now might be the best time to jump in. The main game is around $10 and the Semper-Fi add-on only $6. I believe this sell is only today.

Actually.. I just did a test.. I disconnected my wifi.. Started up Steam.. it said I had no connection to the internet and asked me if I wanted to start in offline mode.. and it started no problem and my game catalog was available..

It's really pretty simple. Once you've downloaded the game and activated it on Steam it's there for you to play as long as you have it on that hard drive even if Steam blows up it will continue to play that game in offline mode until you delete it or your hard drive goes kablewy.

Now it is PUBLISHERS that can change those rules about games NOT STEAM. Publishers like UBIsoft can REQUIRE you to be ONLINE all the time to play their new games. That's not Steam or Steams fault. So people really need to stop blaming Steam for what PUBLISHERS are doing. Steam is nothing more than a distributer like any brick n mortar store and they are under the same rules and regulations of distribution as the stores are. But, those have to be online requirements and must activate online everytime you change computers (the new norbsoft game gettysburg) and other stupid stuff like that are PUBLISHERS being ASSES not Steam.

So Long Live Steam and Gamersgate and Direct 2 Drive and GoG and even Impulse because these make life so simple and easy and cheaper than most anything else when it comes to software purchases nowadays.

Is Blood Bowl worth getting? I was contemplating that but did not know much about it.

From what I have read at Steam Support, that only works if you had selected Offline Mode prior to going offline.

So let's say I buy a game on Steam. I load it on my computer and then decide to go somewhere and want to load the same game on my laptop. Can I load the game on both computers or will Steam prevent me from doing so?

You can download games on multiple computers you just can't log in on more than one at a time. They actively encourage this. I bought the Complete Civ IV a couple of months ago. When Steam recently added Mac support, I was also able to load Civ IV to my Mac as well.

I've given Steam a total of $11 and have the following Steam library:

HalfLife 2 (Free)
HalfLife Ep1 (Free)
HalfLife Source - plus all the assorted HL add-ons and multiplayer games (Free)
Portal (Free)
Civ IV Complete ($10)
XCOM Terror from the Deep ($1)
Dirt 2 (Free)

Thinking about picking this up for 5 bucks:

quote:

Alien Versus Predator Classic 2000 has been updated to run on modern PCs and laptops using DirectX 9.0c and includes support for Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.

I already own it but I could never get it to run very well back in the day. Not sure why.

I didn't... I was logged in.. I exited Steam... I turned off my wirelesss... confirmed internet was down by my browser.. started steam.. I couldn't connect, and it asked if I wanted to start in offline mode...

I have to admit that is impressive for 11 bucks.

I bought Total War limited edition four days ago. It took two days to download it. Yikes.

ilovestrategy -> RE: Steam sale (6/27/2010 6:36:36 AM)

I LOVE Steam! I bought Oblivion for $8.50 and Morrowind for $4.99 a week ago on a weekend sale. Dang, I have 53 hours in Oblivion so far! [X(]

*hugs Oblivion*

Depends on what you're expecting. I was hoping for a tabletop conversion, but since turns in Blood Bowl have a time limit of 2 min., it plays almost like realtime and the atmosphere wears off pretty fast.

Can I load the game on both computers or will Steam prevent me from doing so? What if I lose Internet connection for a few days, do I need an Internet connection to play Steam games? Suppose Steam goes out of business some day (maybe a competing company out sells them or something), what happens to my ability to play those games? Suppose, for whatever reason, Steam decides to stop supporting one of its games, maybe one that isn't selling very well but which I like, am I at the mercy of the Company's whims even after I buy the game?

Gary, the best advice would be to look through the steam library and try to find a really cheap game that interests you. Buy it and try it.See how you like the service. If you hate it,fine, you are out a few measley bucks. Thats how I did it. On your other questions: Steam is big..I dont forsee them closing shop for a long time, if ever.I cant recall which game it is, but I still have access to a game I bought about 5 years ago from a indie thru steam. Nobody plays it(probably) but its still available. And anyways, you can play offline if you want. YOu dont need to be constantly connected, unlike the way UBISOFT is doing it. You wont be able to get updates offline, but really, at that point the game company might not be making updates anyways....

htuna -> RE: Steam sale (6/27/2010 1:39:25 PM)

Grabbed the Commandos Collection for 5 bucks!.. I can remember having a lot of fun figuring out the puzzles of Behind Enemy Lines years ago..

That ones a great deal.. I already have two copies of the Company Heroes.. and also have the Warhammers.. so wasn't an option for me

PunkReaper -> RE: Steam sale (6/27/2010 5:40:46 PM)

That the problem with £80 for BftB ..... there are other deals out there that will give many more hours of enjoyment at less than half the price.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Steam sale (6/27/2010 6:15:04 PM)

I have no idea to be honest...but I liked what I read so thought "What the hell". Would've probably paid more for it too....

I agree with Punk Reapers view...the problem with BftB is the price. I don't want to bang on about it...but I think it's important the devs and publishers get the message. I have now spent (since BftB release) £60. If BftB had been released at a more reasonable price (and I FULLY understand the objectivity argument), then it would have been purchased on day one. As it is, 3 other games sit on my drive.

Also, I would have foregone the last 3 games I have purchased at bargain price for BftB.

I am NOT telling them how to run their business...but my £40 (what I would've been willing to layout) has left them. What they have done is tap into the hardcore wargamer that likes their series (and bare in mind I LOVED their series...I often raved and promoted it...and that will not change...their engine hasn't changed - their attitude to their supposrters has)...and if that pays off, then they're lucky they have such loyal fans...apparently I am not one.

Sorry for the rant and I could do with not continuing the price debate about BftB, but I still feel strongly enough about it to need to let Matrix and Dave (even though he has verbally acknowledged that he's doing fine without my (and many others support)) know that they still have not got my cash.

htuna -> RE: Steam sale (6/27/2010 7:07:08 PM)

Since May 1st I bought..
Gettysburg 45
Commandos 5
Semper Fi 20
Aresnal of Democracy 20
Steel Fury Kharkov 15
Advanced Tactics 40
Civilization IV Complete 10
WITP AE 50 (ebay)
Looking for another game to purchase shortly... no.. I won't go over 50 bucks for a pc game..

Judge, well said. I am having the same thoughts. However, I have bought most Slitherine games as they are at a sensible price. My fear is that they follow the Matrix pricing at some point, I hope not.

Wait...you bought them a week ago, and you have 53 hours in Oblivion already?! My God man, sleep is your friend!! [:D]

I haven't bought anything yet. I have a few games marked to grab later, a few whose demos I'm trying out, and I'm keeping an eye on the daily deals.

You guys who bought the THQ pack.. is it possible to 'gift' games that you already have copies of?... I'd like to use it to get the Warhammer II's they were on sale yesterday but not today... but I'd like to gift some of the other games to my Sons Steam Accounts..

They have a Call of Duty collection now...
All except Call of Duty 3 (which is console only) and Modern Warfare 2.

mjk428 -> RE: Steam sale (6/29/2010 7:23:33 PM)

Steam just chiseled another $8.73 out of me.

GTA IV - $4.99

X-COM Complete (5 games) - $3.74
