Politics and pressure as early as 1915 from England and France when it became clear that they could not finish the Germans off by themselves

Wodin - I wouldn't bother replying m8 - he's got an agenda and by replying specifically, his little devious wee plan is working.

This is not true. What gets me about the brits is this.....They are more than happy to affend you, but in return of being offended themselves, well this is an outcry!!! You become petty. It's alright to call American's rebel's, it's alright to downplay America's role in both World Wars, It's alright to accept 50 billion in aid to fight those wars and never pay it back......It's alright...................

There is no doubt that Lend Lease and the massive production capacity of the US did wonders for ther UK war effort. The cost involved were staggering, so staggering that we only finished paying for it in 2006.

Catch 22....money loaned just in the years 1945 and 1946......1947 to 1987 not paid. 1914-1919 not paid. 1939-1944 not paid.

I said before that I couldn't face going back and forth but what the hell....

You delight in "Brit" bashing suggesting that we are all the same and therefore, we all act alike (arrogant apparently) and think alike (down play America's role in WWII). Well listen, I would never, have never, down played the US contribution to WWII. The Royal Navy fought superbly in that war and with great bravery; especially in the Mediterranean. They took a real hammering from the Luftwaffe, especially in 1941. But without the aid of the US ship yards, we may even have had to suspend operations there. The greatest battleship ever built (can you guess which [;)]) was one of those recipients. Thank-you America for your assistance in WWII.

You think we took £50bn in aid and never paid it back? Is that right? Is it?

Tell you what, why don't you get yourself off to school and learn something. From your posts I have read I suggest:

- History (a balanced perspective is always a good idea)
- English Language (sorry don't mean to affend themselfs with an outcry [8|])
- Manners and civility (yes the above comment was cheap and I feel guilty writing it but I guess you've brought me down to your level - well done).

You should try it...we drink from delicate floral patterned cups with our little pinkies in the air. And while holding a plate full of cucumber sandwiches in the other hand, we discuss the merits of the LBW rule with the vicar.

Also, did you know that according to Mel Gibson, thats what the English were doing at Gallipoli while the Anzacs were dying on the beaches? Drinking tea that is, not talking to the vicar.

Dont forget that there were non monetory payments included in Reverse Lend Lease consisting of leasing of land to the US to build various bases. Add to that the gift of scientific research ie. Radar, Huff Duff, ASDIC etc that continued even after the war was over.

To tie the repayment of Lend Lease to just monitory value and dollars repaid is innacurate.

you have some good points. The US sold weapons to the allies, the allies where struggling, allies kept asking when is America going to join. Now those passenger liners just had passengers and nothing else right? Parts of US to Mexico was a major fubar on Germany's part.

Compare and contrast with how the RN enforced it's blockade of Germany. How many ships were sunk without warning?

Well the Germans did publish what they where going to do. And it was war.

Jevhaddah -> RE: Ok lets take America out of WW2. (6/28/2010 9:59:43 PM)

The research, the bases etc did have a value, just in a different kind of money.

As I have already said, to limit the repayment of Reverse Lend Lease to dollars and cents, pounds, shillings and pence does NOT make perfect sense. (Sorry Roger)[8D]

Are you doing this for a school project, if so is it junior or senior level. I ask becuase my own children covered something similar in High School this year.

Why do you keep calling them 'The Allies'? By the time the remaining 'Entente' became "The Allies", they were no longer struggling. Did not the Central Powers "struggle" as well?

That and the US government insisting that it's citizens should and could go whereever they liked...including a war zone. Add to that the Anti-German sentiment created by the Uboats because the loss of life was viewed as an uncivilized way to fight. (a view which would not survive entry into WWII) Don't see this as England and France "dragging" the US into the war kicking and screaming. [;)]

They sure did, it was a struggle on all sides. Entente or allies same thing. At the National WW1 museum in Kansas City they have a hall of allies, Entente was used once at the start of the tour, but not mentioned again.

Without the U.S., the Russians lose. The English lose. The Australians lose.

It's just that simple. The U.S. did not do it all alone, but without them, the Axis powers win. Period.

umm..no... The Germans did not have enough POL to conduct their far reaching goals. Eventually they would have been worn down by all the little gnat like bites from everyone involved. They also had a finite manpower reserve. However well they were doing the meat grinder in the east was taking a toll on the experienced cadre. The Russians could throw away troops for far longer than the Germans. Plus you have to take into account the British at that time. They weren't going to sit shaking in their boots. Then you got the partisans. ALl this would eventually sap German manpower to where they were tossing in old men and young'uns into battle just like in real life.

Japan was not going to go traipsing around the Russian far east. They remembered the bloody nose they got there in 1939.Here again, the Chinese meat grinder would have eventually worn down the army since however large they got every little place had to be supplied with troops and supplies .That spreads out a finite manpower base. And again, all the little bites would take their toll.
