Good Monday morning - Tithe. [&o][&o][&o]

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 2:30:40 PM)

The Norwegian mass murderer (I won't dignify him by typing his name) appeared for the first time in open court today. He apparently "doesn't recognize the authority of the court" and "wants to be tried by a military tribunal", presumably because he thinks his "rank" in a "world-wide military organisation" means anything to anybody outside the voices in his head.

I think they should let him have that. A summary court martial followed by a summary execution.

Alfred -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 2:35:52 PM)

That assumes they have the death penalty under Norwegian military law.

Alfred

Naw . Give him a general. You can't execute someone on a summary.[:D]
Pity Norway and the EU don't permit a death penalty. Florida and Texas know how to deal with scum like him. [:D]

Grollub -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 3:45:14 PM)

Hmmm ... I just checked it up. In Sweden, the death penalty was abolished in 1921 for crimes commited during peacetime. The death penalty for crimes commited during times of war managed to live until as late as 1973, though.

Given our history and cultural similarities, I wonder if it is the same (or something like it) in Norway?

ETA: I'm thinking of the possibility that they haven't abolished the war death penalty, and he seems eager for a military court ... he could get more than he asked for [sm=00000622.gif]

My understanding (based entirely upon a paper I recently read on the state of Military law in the world) is that the EU requires members to abolish the death penalty and that the respective militaries must comply. An example is the requirement to allow openly gay indivduals to serve....something that wasn't all that popular in countries that are heavily religious., But Spain and Portugal complied. Norway is a full member of the EU , isn't it? I didn't think Sweden was. [&:]

Btw , the US uniformed code of military justice allows the death penalty , and indeed has people sitting on "death row", some since the 1970's. Which is the last time anyone was executed.

Norway is not a member of the EU. Sweden is. [;)] It is, however, the other way around when it comes to NATO membership.

I try not to agree with Terminus any more than possible-you know, on general principle. [:'(]

But, T, you're spot on here, my good man. "Flying court martial" with summary execution sounds pretty good to me.

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 6:39:04 PM)

I hope Ponder and the Vikings do well tonight.[sm=innocent0001.gif] Green Bay gave up alot of points last week against the Charger's. Anything is possible. I will be watching in my buddies garage as we play some poker.
His daughter and son-in-law are back for a little while before he ships out to Afganistan she'll be staying here while he's deployed. He's from Wisconsin, so it could get a little testy in the garage tonight.

Deer hunting was still very tough. Heavy fog didn't help. I could see less than 150 yards. At times even less. That can make it quite dangerous not being able to see what is beyond your line of sight. Though it lifted around 10:30. I went and sat on a small ridge in the river bottom. The only happenings there was I had a coyote about ten yards away. I said "woof" and sent him on his way. He looked back one more time and left. Then the main feature entertainment while I sat. Squirrel porn in a nearby tree. Needed a cigarette after that traudry wildlife display.[sm=innocent0009.gif] After pushing the river bottom, woods and shelter belts (hedgerows for those of you across the pond). I saw only two does. I shot twice at long range for naught. So in two weekends I've seen seven deer. Whereas I saw over fifteen wild turkeys. One more weekend to go. However the weather may not cooperate with snow and wind in the forecast.[sm=nono.gif] I'll have talk to the boys and see what they think. It's coin toss.

jeffk3510 -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 6:48:37 PM)

... guys were talking about the full moon making them do goofy things.

Wonder if that has anything to do with it over the last week or two...

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 6:53:14 PM)

I dunno. Possibly. But I don't think likely. Mostly due to very nice weather delaying the rut. That is why we'll may try again this weekend (weatehr permiting). They tend to move more during the rut.

How'd it go for you? Good? Slow?

jeffk3510 -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/14/2011 6:58:52 PM)

I don't bow, just rifle. I have stopped seeing them as much now with this stupid time change... I am going down to look at feeders and jazz tonight.

I dunno. Watching Sean Penn get shot in the ass is always worth the price of admission.
