jack54 -> lining up Unit properties image... (10/3/2010 3:33:11 PM)

Hi all

I need some help getting a custom image to line up correctly...as you can see the new graphic does not cover the original graphic underneath. I didn't notice any size requirement in the manual so I made the image the same as the original. Thanks for your help and thanks to Uffz Feuerhake for the graphic I edited. : )

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: lining up Unit properties image... (10/3/2010 8:03:18 PM)

Hi Jack54,

you are welcome [;)]

The new / old background looks really nice ... it is a matter of taste, I would prefer a "more realistic" background like a meadow and the sky - like the background of the officer-screen - .... maybe we / you should experiment more in this direction? [sm=love0028.gif]

A further problem could be when the pictures become a little bit more three-dimensional f.e. with a horse behind the cavalier (Have a look on my new Saxon cavalry)

Nevertheless please try your best!

I have discovered, that an original pic becomes a little bit more voluminous in the game.
So I have to create the soldiers in the original a little bit smaller in the white field (220 x 356 pixel) of the picture frame

still not sure what I'm doing wrong...I tried re-sizing , but it moves the image further left....

see below image...

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: lining up Unit properties image... (10/8/2010 10:19:53 PM)

Jack,

I can not comprehend this problem. Do you want to compare a screenshot with an original frame with your example, or why I can see two frames, one on top of the other??

Please tell me how do you build a new example of f.e. the original InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga

jack54 -> RE: lining up Unit properties image... (10/10/2010 1:39:22 PM)

Hi Prince,

I found out from the manual that You cannot use the full property page as a unit image because the program will center the custom image on the left side of the properties page; I'm using the image inside the frame only see post #3 above...

I still have to work on the size; It is supposed to cover the generic unit image... I'm still trying...

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: lining up Unit properties image... (10/10/2010 7:02:58 PM)

Hi Jack,

with a little bit more time I would have the leisure to experiment with the machine too. But with your input above I have a question:

If you are using only the new little portrait image and the result is a new displaced image over the original image ("default generic portrait")...... what would be the result, when you only delete the little portrait image frame in the original file (respectively repaint it with the known background texture like my shown jpg-example)?

Maybe a new image with new (slightly different) coordinates over an empty portraitless - and so unproblematic - background? (This could be a solution without new sizes etc.....hypothetical) [sm=crazy.gif]

Greetings

jack54 -> RE: lining up Unit properties image... (10/11/2010 4:26:55 PM)

Hi Uffz,

I edited the generic unit properties file; I moved the generic unit image over to where the costum image will cover it...this must be done to each generic file ie grenadiers,light cavalry,medium cavalry ect.

this process works but I'm sure it is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us this option...perhaps Vol 2 will be different.

A blank properties page will not show an image unless assigned a costum one in the editor...every unit in every scenario...a lot of work

all the best!

Uffz Feuerhake -> We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 7:58:56 PM)

Hi Jack,

now I have the same experience and I know the problem.....aaaargh.

First I deleted the original "InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga" and my new file was shown alone, but it was stretched unproportional.

Then I used only a new small portrait wihout the big frame and I had the same result like you in your last message above.

Of course it would be possible to create a new graphic file with a size, that cover the complete "old" small graphic frame, BUT.....you wrote: [...] but I'm sure it is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us this option...perhaps Vol 2 will be different.

My opinion: Yes, I think that this error is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us (obviously without testing!) this option! I am not sure, that Vol 2 will be different! I think, we need another update for Vol 1, because we have a "legitimate interest" on a functioning Vol 1.

So I don't want to invest more time to create a lot of pictures without a expectation of the necessary patch![sm=fighting0043.gif]

We need contact to the developers!

PrinzHenrich -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 8:04:36 PM)

Well, we also want to have contacts with developers [:D]

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 8:17:28 PM)

Well, then two want to have contact with the developers [:D]  ....[sm=crazy.gif]....Anyone else?[sm=00000030.gif]

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 9:00:36 PM)

reworked the original generic infantry...imaged moved down and left...

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 9:04:01 PM)

Hi Jack,

good idea to move the original frame to the "new" position..... it works without stretchings etc. ?

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 9:05:48 PM)

in game looks like this....I added a frame to costum image so it is slightly larger...looks ok.

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 9:08:05 PM)

Hi Uffz... we may need more than 3 of us to get a patch...

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 9:39:52 PM)

Hi Jack,

yes, of course I know...but I think when 3 people would locate f.e. a striking brake-construction-problem in a notable japanese car, Nissan....aeehm, an intelligent company wouldn't wait for hundreds of other requests in the face of bad publicity [sm=00000016.gif]

your example looks really good. The inner frame enrichment is reducing the main portrait a bit too much......

Do you think, when I am changing your jpg-example in a tga-file, there will be a loss of quality??

Would you please send a zip with your created tga-file of the changed main frame? So it would be easier to rework my old scans and the new scans into the "only portrait frame.tga"-version of every (!) unit. [sm=happy0005.gif]

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 10:04:32 PM)

Uffz here is the line infantry tga...you can use it as a template for the others eg: grenadiers, various cavalry ect..

I didn't realize the IR3 figure was small until I compared it with the originals... my fault others look better : )

all the best!

Jack

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/11/2010 11:49:49 PM)

I re-did the generic;

grenadier, light cavalry,med calvary,and heavy cavalry so far...they seem to work ok. If you need them let me know and I'll post them.

I haven't done the various leaders or artillary yet.

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 8:20:13 AM)

Jack54: "I re-did the generic; grenadier, light cavalry,med calvary,and heavy cavalry so far..."

Yes, please post them, so we can integrate the files in the game! [:)][:)]

PrinzHenrich -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 10:30:45 AM)

When I written "We" I have on mmy mind Me and Sertorius1[:D]
I may tell you that there is still being discus about the remaining problem with Volume I on THE PRIVAT DEVELOPMENT FORUM

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 11:45:05 PM)

I tried to load a folder but file was too large had to do individually...(I recommend backing up originals in case there is a future correction)

grenadier attached

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 11:48:37 PM)

re-worked light cavalry attached

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 11:51:39 PM)

re-worked med cavalry

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/12/2010 11:57:00 PM)

re-worked heavy cavalry...

hope all files work ok they seem fine for me so far (but once again I recommend backing up originals)[;)]

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/13/2010 8:19:39 PM)

Tx a lot ! [:)]

By the way, Jack54...do you have an idea about a nice (always adaptable) landscape-background for the portrait-soldiers / infantry / cavalry and ari?
The original background seems too dark to me... maybe a blue sky...some clouds.....

Any ideas or suggestions?

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/15/2010 1:18:47 AM)

Hi Uffz,

I'm just trying out some things...these are edits from existing background (art. and leader). I'm going to add a larger frame I think..

[image]local://upfiles/25856/181CA1B2C0AE473F8413D3A68C9CEEE9.jpg[/image]

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/15/2010 10:04:16 AM)

Hi Jack,

that is really a very good looking artwork!!! [&o][:)]

Do you think you are able to create a background for every of the coming xyz units? [:)][sm=crazy.gif][:)]

What is the reason for a larger frame?

By the way... if you would delete the portrait frame in every generic basic file of infantry/grenadier/light - heavy cavalry / art. (motto: every unit with an individual portrait frame means no use of the generic basic file), then it should be easier to place the new portait frame without a risk of overlaping frames. What do you think about this?

Greetings

PrinzHenrich -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/15/2010 10:27:51 AM)

Gentelmens.
I stoped understanding the discussion. You  known, when you don't use frames and pictures and protraits, yours discussion stop being clear to understanding  BUT the results and endings proposal are so Important to me That I please you: when you reached what you want- make simply setup steps for amateur so they also could use new portraits!

Uffz Feuerhake -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/15/2010 1:20:24 PM)

PrinzHenrich,

I try to explain in my "bad" school-English:

1.) We have a few original main files for all types of units: f.e. "InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga" and others for grenadiers, cavalry, artillery....
    On this graphic file we can see on the right a free field - during the game we can read there the data about this individual unit
    And we can see a smaller golden frame with a uniform picture of this unit on the left.

2.) During using the editor we remarked a problem with the allocation of the new unit graphics:
The editor is not able to use my old big unit files!
The editor is only able to set a new small unit frame over the old existing small soldier frame ,

BUT (!!!)A) the editor isn't using the correct coordinates of "old" original unit frame

OR (!!!) B) the position of the little golden unit frame isn't correct placed as a matrix error
- Have a look on my example picture -

3.) So Jack decided himself to correct the B). He changed the position of the original little golden frame in this way, that the coordinates of the little basic original golden frame are identical to the coordinates of the new unit frame. So during the game we can only see the new unit frame, which is hiding the old original unit frame complete to 100%.

4.) My suggestion was to delete in every main file like "InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga" and all others the existing little unit frame, so that the main file is only in the "parchment paper" - version, that I have shown above on  10/10/2010.

Resume:

We will use for new unit portraits only a small frame like actually used for the new ulans.

I will change all other stored unit portraits from the old big style to the new -only portrait frame - version.

jack54 -> RE: We need another Vol 1-Update (10/15/2010 11:30:39 PM)

excellent discription of the issue...[:)]

keep in mind that if you use a blank generic properties tga there will only be words (unit info) on the parchment unless a custom image is assigned in the editor. {every unit for every scenario.}

below I uploaded 2 blank unit backgrounds edited from the originals; in case you want to work with them. these are jpgs the follow up post has the tga's
