AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR May 05, 43 slight delay from my side this time as I was away for a long weekend. but here is a list of copy n paste combat reports. not my usual style i admit but just to show the effectiveness of the allied bombers in Burma more than anything. Initially though the attack on Goodenough island with yet another heavy shelling from BB Maryland and DD's walloped too this time as no mines detected upon landing. nor any CD guns worth talking about. Night Naval bombardment of Goodenough Island at 101,131 Allied Ships BB Maryland CA Australia DD Nestor DD Sterett DD Frazier DD Barton DD Grayson DE Edsall Japanese ground losses: 15 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Airbase hits 1 Runway hits 9 Port hits 2 The disruption more than any damage is bad for the defending japs. Allied normal attack took on one fort. I do have many more men and material in Milne but none really prepared for the target apart from some CD guns for defence once its taken. this will take a while i think , but if Japan does not incrcede with its navy or air-force it's just a matter of time. Ground combat at Goodenough Island (101,131) Allied Deliberate attack Attacking force 5327 troops, 70 guns, 80 vehicles, Assault Value = 200 Defending force 2499 troops, 46 guns, 3 vehicles, Assault Value = 62 Allied engineers reduce fortifications to 4 Allied adjusted assault: 143 Japanese adjusted defense: 64 Allied assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 4) Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 4 Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), leaders(-), disruption(-) preparation(-), fatigue(-), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 44 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 5 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Guns lost 3 (1 destroyed, 2 disabled) attack 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Goodenough Island (101,131) Allied Deliberate attack Attacking force 5340 troops, 70 guns, 80 vehicles, Assault Value = 201 Defending force 2441 troops, 46 guns, 3 vehicles, Assault Value = 55 Allied adjusted assault: 189 Japanese adjusted defense: 109 Allied assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 4) Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 3 Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), leaders(-), disruption(-), fatigue(-) experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 82 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 10 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Allied ground losses: 27 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Assaulting units: 5th Australian/B Division 5th Australian/C Division Defending units: Maizuru 4th SNLF Yokosuka 7th SNLF 6th Naval Construction Battalion meanwhile here is one day in Burma :- !!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Imperial Guards Division, at 58,47 (Meiktila) Weather in hex: Severe storms Raid spotted at 24 NM, estimated altitude 7,000 feet. Ramtree island is a waste of time by comparison. maybe later on the airfields will be useful but a port level of 0 (0)is a royal pain in the butt to build up so we can get radar deployed. Piccie tomorrow as i forgot today (sorry). but tomorrows will show all the landings etc and we'll have a batter idea of Japan's forces defending. With the benefit of hindsight i really should have waited before deploying the paras. we will see anyway. Japan is in for a surprise regardless.
