Hohenlohe -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/22/2010 6:43:07 AM)

As one of the silent majority at Matrix I am in a way happy that I cannot explain that you publish again a game of the great Grigsby about the War in the East like War in Russia more than 20 years ago.
It's a "MustHave" for me...*ggg*[&o][&o][&o]

Thank you so much...[:D][&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]

greetings Hohenlohe aka Michael

Gary has done a lot of work on the AI and I would say it is very good.

Kulturhund -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/22/2010 12:22:58 PM)

Thought I'd add that the release of WITE is especially meaningful to me as I've been an ardent fan of GG's WIR since the first rendition, back in the mid-80s, on my old Apple IIe. [8D]

Erik I didn't know it was that far along. I have to say that this is my most anticipated game since I started gaming 40 yrs ago with the AH game Blitzkreig. 4 of us spent more than a few all nighter's playing SPI's War in the East and I fell in love with the period and scope of the campaign. ( almost cost me my future wife! ) I have read most of the posts and the commitment that seems to have gone into this game has amazed me. I wish I had the time to playtest, but I must say thanks to all of the effort that has gone into the game and the constant info that has been available almost making us part of the process. I'm sure I am not alone when I say I am waiting to support the game with a purchase. Based on what I have seen I'm sure I won't be disapointed whenever it is complete. I am willing to wait so they get it right! In the meantime I'm going back to shooting down allied B-17's in BTR which will probably have to move to 2nd on my all time list of favorite games.

Thanks!

Jimbo, you are going to be in wargaming nirvana. This game is almost as good as sex and lasts a lot longer. [:D]

I think that might be "in your opinion" - on both counts [;)]

I hope I will never have a brain fart loud enough to write something as stupid as "jaw's" last post.

Sorry, November 23rd is not the scheduled release date - where are you seeing this? We are releasing a game on November 23rd, but it will be Revolution Under Siege.

http://www.matrixgames.com/products/396/details/Revolution.Under.Siege.

War in the East still looks good for a pre-Christmas release though. The manual printing has just finished and they are on their way back to our warehouses.

Regards,

- Erik

Excellent news, Erik.

wodin -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/22/2010 7:19:03 PM)

Manual printing? Are you saying we can buy the game with a manual?

british exil -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/22/2010 7:26:58 PM)

Wodin the manual has so many pages, you'll be wondering if you've just ordered the Encylopedia Britannica with your game.

A lot to read. If you really want to understand the whole game a need to read. If you want to start playing and read while you play to grasp the finer points of the game, that is also possible.

I'm not sure how many pages Al has written but it is a fair amount, so I guess the game will be delivered in a big box.

If you look at the game's product page...

That's maybe just a little bit of an overstatement...

Terminus -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/22/2010 8:56:20 PM)

One of my favourite aspects of the game is the ability to attach support units to divisions. Almost endless scope for experimentation and customization there.

Jaw!

He sounds young to me! I've got 40 years in this hobby and I believe this game will be what I dreamed about all those years ago. No counters for the dog to run over, a great AI and maybe some PBEM if my schedule allows. I enjoyed WIR but it was not like WITE (SPI) which at the time was stae of the art. I think I get to play at my own pace without the time commitment which was so easy when I was blowing off college. You get a feel for people if you read this forum and all the info points to an amazing game. I pretty sure I won't be giving up sex but I don't think it's a requirement to download the game. ( wife laughing in the background )Again many thanks to all of you who have worked to bring this game to the market.

Jimbo

I wonder how long she'll still be laughing for once you've bought the game, my GF is not really complaining but she moved her workplace into my room so she is still near me when I'm busy on the Eastern front.

I wanted to buy it but never did; the suggested price was higher than most of the other SSI titles. I believe it was $79.95. [:@]

Lützow -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/23/2010 11:30:31 AM)

Since the game is almost done now, can anyone create a high resolution map - either blank or with counters at medium zoom level? Would be willing to do this myself, if somebody uploads a screenshot package and label the tiles accordingly.

Considering that I spent nearly two months as a late alpha tester, I can guarantee you that I will not. It's good, and I'll be buying it, but it's not THAT good. No computer game is.

And I've been working as a developer on this game for 5 years so I guess it's a question of taste. For people like Jimbo who liked the monster board games of the 70's like SPI's War in the East and GDW's Fire in the East, this game will be a very satisfying experience. It was obviously hyperbole on my part to say it was almost as good as sex but I was trying to make a point that only people who had slogged through those monster board games would truly appreciate.

My opinion is naturally biased so regard it as a "brain fart" if you wish but I don't think the serious historical gamers will be disappointed with this product.

Why?

Is WitE better than sex?

Obviously someone has to devise a way of doing both simultaneously.

All kinds of promo stuff planned - we're busy getting it all together and will start posting it ASAP.

It would be fantastic to have the manual online a couple of days before release as it will take that long to print it out and read it ( or just to print if I'm at home) before I can start playing. I am not one of those who can leap in without reading the manual

I know I will not be disappointed, and if we want to compare <expletive deleted> size, then I helped develop the biggest, baddest <expletive deleted> grognard computer wargame of them all, WitP AE.

Terminus -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/23/2010 1:57:01 PM)

Anyway, never mind. I'm looking forward to gassing up my Panzer...[:D]

Erik Rutins -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/23/2010 2:50:10 PM)

Ok, that's enough of that. Terminus, your involvement in WITP AE is precisely why you shouldn't find grognard glee surprising or unusual. [;)] Now, let's get back to discussing the game!

Kubel -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/23/2010 5:47:28 PM)

Erik you tease us so well...How does WW2 in Europe sound; based on the WitE engine lets say from 1936-1946 [sm=Cool-049.gif] then some way to tie the Pacific and European Theatres together in one mega (I'll need a divorce Lawyer) game.... Anyway bottom line is Matrix Rocks just keep doing what you guys do best....[sm=00000436.gif]

AZKGungHo -> RE: Released 23 november? (11/23/2010 6:07:26 PM)

We are all looking forward to this one - and the screen shot package is excellent! Saw some stuff in there I haven't seen before, just makes me want this game even more!

If it come with a printed manual then I'll actually buy the hard copy of the game and not just the download, something I haven't done in quite some time.

Just so people don't get confused: the Axis can attach support units to divisions, the Soviets can't. The Soviets can, for combat units, only attach support units to Corps. If you break down a mobile corps with 3 support units into 3 brigades, each brigade will have a support unit. However, breaking down a non-mobile corps, which would break down into divisions, won't allow you to keep support units attached, as divisions can't have support units attached to them even when broken down from a corps.

It's already under consideration. Check the old production thread.
