He makes it sound like it is going out in a email, but wouldn't that be mostly existing owners?

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 12:43:05 AM)

You can buy a game off FB?

junk2drive -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 1:07:03 AM)

No he has a page on facebook. He can post messages, news, pictures. Most game companies have a page. Depending on the person responsible for posting, you get the news on facebook quicker than on the website. Or if you don't normally visit a company website, you get the news on facebook instead.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 4:52:47 AM)

Well is it DRM free yet or not? I'm getting confused about who's on first.

junk2drive -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 5:00:58 AM)

I'll let you know if I figure it out. You need to have a facebook account to view what I'm talking about.

The DRM-free version is about to be released, possibly in the next
update (which should come out in about a week). If not then, then
certainly within the next two weeks. So, very soon.
Brit

This is his reply about a week ago ...

papajack -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 6:39:21 AM)

Just receive another email from Brit , he mentioned that he already sent the DRM free installer to publisher yesterday

So it will be real soon ...cheers

About 15 minutes ago on Facebook

Oops. Do to some mis-coordination, the DRM-free version of the game is now available! Whether you purchase a new copy or update your existing version, you'll have a DRM-free version of the game. Have a good Christmas!

I don't get how BFC would go along with this.

I don't either, but as long as the game is now DRM free. I just downloaded the new update, it's official! No more DRM!

junk2drive -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/10/2010 11:27:35 PM)

I installed the demo and looked at the tutorial a bit. When it has you gathering crops and buying oil I decided to pass on this one. Not my cup of tea.

I don't understand why game companies release tutorials that don't spell out exactly what you need to do. They always look like they were written by someone who has stared at the screen so long they forget that a first timer doesn't know where anything is.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 12:15:21 AM)

Just to be clear;

If I buy EOS from Battlefront, it is now DRM FREE?

A simple yes or no will suffice. Thank you.

Scott_WAR -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 12:15:55 AM)

Yes

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 12:25:01 AM)

junk2drive,

I agree with you, for some strange reason companies today seem to give tutorials very little attention to details, and many times don't even include them. WITP is a case in point.

EUIII is another one with a whacked tutorial. DOD if you don't install the patches will work, and if you do install the patches it doesn't. If you buy ATD2 the tutorial doesn't work, because you installed the latest patch. These games are expensive (at least to me they are), and I expect a "complete" and working tutorial without people telling me to just deal with it.

I guess this is OT so I will stop there.

I said I will get EOS and so I will since they did what their customer base wanted, and listened to our complaints.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 12:25:40 AM)

Scott_War,

Thanks, DL now.

junk2drive -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 12:34:08 AM)

OK guys, if this is your kind of game, help the guy out and buy it.

One interesting thing is that he takes a 3D model and makes the 2D graphic. Lordz Games is doing the same for Panzer Corp. EOS guy says it's because the details get lost with such a small icon and 2D allows him to shadow and accent and surround with black so that it shows up better. He is considering going 3D though if it can be made to look good. I always thought that OBTSFR was better with 3D but many did not.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 1:05:00 AM)

Installed EOS. I will go through the tutorial sometime this weekend. I hope JT takes note. I didn't need another game, but this guy listened to his customers, so I purchased it.

Another company that is DRM free is AI War Arcengames, Schwerpunkt Russo German War and others, and the company that does Hegemony Philip of Macedon. We need to support small DRM free developers as best we can.

Of course Matrix always get the nod to being a top notch company for allowing just a serial number to install.

Rant off.

If I had a job I would buy it but...

sabre1 no online activation then?

rich12545 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 2:11:55 AM)

Guys, you can disable the food, oil and stuff.  The game comes with rulesets and you can easily do whatever you want with the game.  Sigh, if only Battlefront Academy was that easy.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 2:23:25 AM)

Nope junk2drive, no online activation, just a serial number.

I was emailed the serial number, and dl the game. Now BF did install the serial number online, but it looks like I can install the game and just input the number. I would have to uninstall to test this out. This is the first game I have bought since BF implemented their DRM hostage scam. It will be the only game I buy from them unless all of their games are DRM free excpet for a Matrix style DRM at most.

sabre1 -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 2:24:29 AM)

Wargamer is posting also that the game is DRM free, and a guy named Brit, who I think is the developer posted there. Check it out at the Wargamer.

You are making this tougher on me...

I'll spend some time with the demo this weekend.

I keep asking for GUI for BA too.

The lead developer Brit has stated that if he gets 100 likes on his facebook page he would release a DRM Free version of the game! This is good news for those sitting on fence because of DRM issue.

Thanks for posting this. I just bought it as well. Fun little game.

RedArgo -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 5:22:23 PM)

I've been playing around with the demo and with it being DRM free now, I decided to pull the trigger too.

Heh, wait until you make a map with EoS. It couldn't get any easier.

V22 Osprey -> RE: Empires of Steel DRM free! (12/11/2010 8:45:02 PM)

I'm having a blast on his newly released official North Africa Map. I'm playing with Prussian flag, vs British with 1940 ruleset. It's pretty much a stand still in the middle of map. The AI is going to make me pay for every city I try to take. I need to amass a large army to compensate for the devastating air attacks. The AI also has 12+ units defend the next city. Luckily I have huge surplus of resources.[8D]
