Alright, now that WitE is just about in the can. When will work get started on the next release, War in the West?

A known unknown as DR would say

Lützow -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 5:49:27 PM)

Would rather like to see Africa. Sicily and Normandy are the least interesting theatres from Axis perspective.

Banzan -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 6:27:30 PM)

In yesterdays livechat something was mentioned about an 43-45 western europe area.

Ginella1946 -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 6:36:05 PM)

43 45 western europa should be!
playing this era on TOAW, amazing!

Lifer -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 6:58:10 PM)

Normandy would be challenging for the Allies if logistics were done in a way to simulate extended overland movement of fuel and supplies.  Africa really the same as offensives tended to peter out when the supply trains hit their limit.  Good maneuver opportunities if the scale was kept to Company/Battalion size units.  HPS has the western Europe and Africa pretty well locked up I think though.

I'm an WitP:AE fanboy so maybe something on that scale which includes resource/oil supply/fuel movement.

vinnie71 -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 7:20:57 PM)

It will also need to have a big naval component in it and somehow include Italy and North Africa. It simply doesn't make sense to see the western campaigns without their inclusion.

Warspite1

Agreed. You can probably get away with an abstract naval game for the West 43-45 and certainly for War In The East, but not for the "Mediterranean" theatre. I would love to fight RN vs RM battles centred around supply missions to Malta, Greece and North Africa [:)]; bringing back to life those good looking Italian ships and the Royal Navy vessels with heroic war records in that theatre - Warspite, Renown, Illustrious, Ark Royal, Penelope, Ajax, Orion, Coventry, Sheffield, HMAS Sydney, Upholder, Torbay etc etc...the list is endless.

Zorch -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 8:02:30 PM)

I'd prefer the next project to be a WitE expansion pack that includes production.

gids -> RE: War in the West (12/4/2010 9:22:54 PM)

atm im to busy to be happy about WitE to think already on something else

if they would bring 10 games like this out in 1 month i would prob would make my misses VERY unhappy....broke,no more attention, zombie, answers like ...i have to take moskou :)

RJL5188 -> RE: War in the West (12/5/2010 3:39:00 PM)

WITE will be awesome...just like all of GGs games.

I would like to see a War in Europe based on the WITPAE engine...if that is possible... i think the Ground Combat resolution system could also be used for a European theater game...

Course that game would be HUGE!!!

hgilmer3 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 3:54:04 AM)

It will take me 5 years to play through WiTE.

sfbaytf -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 4:40:25 AM)

War in the West would be great especially if the Med was included and contrary to whats been said before there are those of us insane enough to play a linked War in the East/West and War in the Pacific monster game.

rjopel -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 6:30:29 AM)

+1

jomni -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 7:54:37 AM)

What about hypothetical NATO vs. WARSAW land battle in the 80's at this scale?

It would have my vote :)

diablo1 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 3:08:44 PM)

I'm all for War in the West myself. Never cared for War in the East. I'd rather play US, British, Canadian, French, Australian and other allied forces (and colors) than black vs white.

fsp -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 4:17:29 PM)

Black v white? Sorry, I don't get your drift here, but the Eastern front dwarves the Western one, how can someone not be interested in it?

diablo1 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 4:25:55 PM)

Black = German units and White = Russian units.

Dwarf or not I never was or am interested in playing German or Russian units. I've played AH Stalingrad and the outcome is always the same the Russians get monster reinforcements after the first snow and easily wipe the Germans off the map. I see no reason to keep repeating that outcome and process. So you win a battle that was lost in the north, you'll lose two in the south because of it. The West front at least offers up many different options of attack/invasion from Southern France to Bethny Bay to Pas de Calais and real possible outcomes that the Germans could have pushed the Allies back into the sea. The Russian front is nothing more than a line and no other options of attack/invasion than the one presented. The only options are pouring more units into the North or South or Middle.

fsp -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 5:51:51 PM)

Interesting point of view, though I don't share it.

diablo1 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 6:12:59 PM)

Well you asked me, I told you. [:)]

Interestingly....back in the early PC days, I had a great interest after countless "Second Front/War in Russia" games in aquiring SSI's briefly released "West Front" for PC which was the Western Europe equivilent to said "Second Front" (basically same engine and graphics)

I only managed one half of the grand campaign before losing interest and never returned to it. Problem was.....once the Allies got the foothold on Normandy, the game was pretty much over. All the Germans could do was try to fight as best a retreat as they could. It was rather boring. Kind of like only being able to play Second Front from 8/43 onward. No wonder the game didn't stay on the shelves very long.

diablo1 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 6:18:04 PM)

Yes the Allies were always much better than the Russians doing things "faster" that's why you grew bored quicker. Once Patton hit the scene it was just a matter of months, not years. [:)]

Ah, come on Termie. It's ok to admit that WITW is approaching beta. [;)]

RJL5188 -> RE: War in the West (12/8/2010 9:33:54 PM)

I would love to see a w War in the West...however i actually think a War in North Africa is badly needed at this time. I look all over and i hardly see any games depicting Rommel's Afrika Korps...Wavell's Operation Compass...which today is the 70th anniversary of the offensive...the Italian Invasion...

I think a War in North Africa would be awesome...How bout it Gary Grigsby?
