Dr. Foo -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 1:16:57 AM)

This is a first day buy for me. [:)]

Tzar007 -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 1:24:47 AM)

Buying on release here.

Ola Berli -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 1:36:01 AM)

Yes, I will buy, buy, buy [:D]

Captain B -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 1:49:32 AM)

No brainer. First Day Buy...next day call off work....cough cough

Having read Hitler Moves East, 1941-1943 and 900 days as a young teenager, the Russian Front has always held a certain fascination for me. I look forward to playing this simulation again and again and again.

parusski -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 2:18:28 AM)

Captain B, I too am feeling ill. Not sure if I will be able to work after I buy the game.

Michael T -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 2:21:40 AM)

I have been waiting for this game since the mid 1990's when I suggested to GRD that they should create a PC version of FITE/SE. They politely informed me they didn't do PC games. 15 years later something akin to a Europa scale Eastern Front game is here. I will be lined up with the rest of you....

Shupov -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 2:35:11 AM)

Ready to buy! My first wargame was AH Stalingrad (German Korps and Soviet Army level units). Anyone remember that one? Also the original PanzerBlitz then years of War in Russia enjoyment!

IMO the Russian front was WWII and WWII was the Russian front. No one does it better than the great Grigsby and I'm looking forward to a great game!

Captain B -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 2:37:40 AM)

Tomorrow at 1400 Eastern Time (1900 in London) should be the time (according to Erik in another post). Drooling, drooling, drooling. Credit card leaping out of the wallet.

Captain B -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 2:43:15 AM)

Remember AH Stalingrad...of course. And the SPI classics "Destruction of Army Group Centre, Drive on Stalingrad, Army Group South, etc.".

Remember playing a game against my 14 year older brother (at that time a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army while I was a mere 2nd looey and whooping his butt in Kursk...as the Germans. He counterattacked way too early and often.

Wonder if he is still into wargaming???

Shupov -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 3:00:42 AM)

Luckily I had a big brother to play with! We grew up on D-Day, Midway, Afrika Korps, Battle of the Bulge, Bismarck and Waterloo. Good times!

Zemke -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 3:24:16 AM)

I think I am feeling a little sick myself.

rjopel -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 4:19:54 AM)

Buy on Release and cancel my order for Total War from HMSGRD.

That makes it 2000 my time.....
So....Back from work around 1500, time to grab some sleep, download, gaming through the night, show up at work Wednesday morning absolutely knackered.....
Repeat as needed through the week. [:D]

Buy on release.
That's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

fsp -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 10:12:32 AM)

It is 2000 my time here as well if things work out tonight... I am actually working at that time, but since most of my work is done from at home in front of my computer I am seriously planning to get some WitE time fitted in, should today really be the day...

I sure hope so! [:)]

NavalNewZ -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 11:44:09 AM)

Im one of those who will be buying as soon as Im aware it has been released. The AARs indicate that its been through plenty of development. Wanna just get lost in the immensity of the whole thing, imagining that I will be absorbed for as long as I can get free time...Will there be a thread.."I just bought it"..?

Lützow -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 12:15:40 PM)

Seven hours to go. Already made a jewel case coverage from the big picture on WitE manual excerpt. [:)]

dobeln -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 12:54:43 PM)

As soon as they release it, it´s mine! :D

wodin -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 12:57:29 PM)

I will await comments.....don't think I saw some one play the Russians against the German AI in an AAR....it went from Alpha to done very quickly and many of the AAR's where multi player...obviously alot more would have gone on behind the scenes but why not more Player vs AI AAR's?

They (the developers) have said that the German 41 AI is the weakest one, due to the complexity of completing large encirclements. The AI needs some help in the 41 scenario to be challenging to a competent Soviet human player.

Myself I have full trust in Gary - the support for his titles has always been excellent, and they tend to work well at launch.

Oh, is the AI moddable a la Civ 4, or is that an hardcoded element?

I have played as Russian against German AI in the 1941 many times during Alpha/Beta.

For this to work the best some sort of adequate advantage is needed and this is exactly where one can change the game options (i.e. give, for example, 110% to assist the AI)!

The AI that would be grandmaster in such complex situation as is Barbarossa 1941 is impossible to ask for but, IMHO, AI is good and apt to task.

The biggest challenge, of course, will be against competent PBEM player but AI will give good playing time of hundreads of hours as well!

Also, pleas enote that the AI uses some scripted elements for scenario start (for example Barbarossa 1-2 turns) but after that it flexibly adjust to situation - it defends, it attacks and it probes for your weakness - don't expect to "steamroll" the AI in easy and leisure fashion! [;)]

Leo "Apollo11"

P.S.
BTW, the AI vs. AI games that I and other run showed remarkable resemblance to history of WWII Eastern front!

biltong -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 1:48:51 PM)

This one.....I will buy on release for sure !

I am playing wargames since Kampfgruppe, Panzer Strike, Colonial Conquest....remember those glorious SSI days? This game will finally replace WIR for me, after everything I have read I believe it will be a worthy successor!

Wouldn't think so.
Everyone in this thread will be too busy playing to have time to post. [;)]

fsp -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 4:25:44 PM)

It's not there yet? Just returned... was hoping for an even earlier release. Bummer. :-D

Lützow -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 4:28:07 PM)

90 more minutes. Hopefully Erik is tying the last ropes already.

IronWarrior -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 4:49:55 PM)

Unfortunately for me, the Christmas budget has already been reached, otherwise it would be a release day purchase. The only worry I have is no WEGO... I think I'm spoiled by WitP/WitP AE. Although it is probably not necessary to have that in this title.

I can't wait to get a pbem game going with this system.

jhdeerslayer -> RE: buy on release? (12/7/2010 4:51:03 PM)

Answer is yes and I hope you other guys stand down so I can have sole access to the server please.
