Fallschirmjager -> What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 5:56:01 AM)

I know this is an overdone topic. But maybe perhaps Matrix takes something from these? Glancing over the forums I do not see any big time premium upcoming titles (besides WIF which has been ongoing forever...)
To give the thread a little bit of structure lets try and limit our wishlist to 2-3 titles instead of a massive list. That could give some insight into what the wargaming community truly wants.

As for my personal wishes. I would highly desire WW2 naval game done in the Uncommon Valor style that deals with the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
My other wish is a naval game done in the War in the Pacific style that deals with WW1 in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.

I think these would qualify as Matrix 'Premium' wargames and deserve the $70-80 price tags.

A Emperor of the Fading Suns type game!

Nothing so I can get my £70 worth of gaming out of War in the East! [;)]

This thread was mainly started because I felt left out by WitE [:(]
I know I am an odd one but I was never that excited by the project to begin with and if I did buy it would probably play it once. I am probably the lone wargamer on earth who has little interest in that beast.
I can appreciated it's craftsmanship and the epic scale but don't feel any inner passion about playing it.

I agree [8D]

warspite1 -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 9:23:44 AM)

I want World In Flames (although may have mentioned that before [;)]).

Failing that, I would like a detailed game of the Mediterranean theatre in World War II - June 1940 to May 1943 - involving the best of WITPAE and WITE rules.

Take it back a little to September 1939 so you can have the Graff Spee and maybe extend out the game until the fall of Rome.

Or if they really wanted to get ambitious open up the entire north and South Atlantic and have the submarine war played on in full.
Couple this with production options and and some sort of quick and easy ship designer (something along the lines of Koei's PTO II) and you would have a wargame that I would go into convulsions over.

Now your talking!! I'll have some of that.

Josh -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 10:03:57 AM)

I know Vic is working on an Advanced Tactics Gold edition, I'm curious about that one. I had loads and loads of fun with AT, probably cost me less than 0,01 cent per hour gameplay.... talking about value for money. (the same holds true for WitE)
And then I want to see his expansion for the Decisive Campaigns game, maybe North Africa.

Lützow -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 10:36:40 AM)

Matrix is publisher, not developer, they don't make games.

Every future, large scale strategic surface naval warfare game is bound to feel lacking, as it will be inevitably measured against WitP AE. Aside of this, nobody had stand a chance against the Home Fleet and hence the Mediterranean theatre isn't good for PBEM. Myself I'd like a strategic U-Boat game, or a simulation with state-of-the-art-visuals, portraying Bismarck or Tirpitz. However, I guess we won't see that either.

Warspite1

You've mixed the Home Fleet with the Mediterranean so not sure if I fully understand what you mean. But if its the Mediterranean war you are talking about then your coment is not right IMO.

The Mediterranean battles are some of the most fascinating of World War II. Maybe not as impressive in scale as the large carrier based actions of the Pacific, but no less interesting for that. There were a variety of actions ranging from Human torpedoes at Alexandria, set piece destroyer battles, carrier launched air strikes and Fleet actions like Calabria.

With the French Fleet out of the picture in June 1940, the British need to look after both the Eastern and the Western Med, and the decision to keep Malta in the war, meant that the RN were stretched to breaking point. The Regia Marina had a number of opportunities to inflict great damage on the Royal Navy - but rarely capitalised on them for a number of reasons.

The new Italian battleships of the Littorio-class outclassed anything the British could offer and their superior speed gave the Italians the important advantage of being able to dictate battles.

The Italians boasted far more heavy cruisers than the British and of course (in theory) they had a giant, permanent aircraft carrier jutting out and dominating the central Mediterranean.

Almost all battles stemmed from either or both the British and the Italians need to get convoys to North Africa/Albania and Malta/Greece. This made many of the engagements real cat and mouse affairs. Do I protect my convoy or attack the enemy's?

With such a fine balance of forces, such a game would be better matched than say WITP. Add in options like the Germans seizing the French Fleet, and the British would have an even bigger struggle on their hands.

SPWAW upgraded to modern PCs (higher resolutions etc.)

wodin -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 12:12:56 PM)

The game I want to develop

A WW1 WEGO 3D air warfare game where you are a squadron commander....with a similar battle engine and mechanics as DarkWind (have options on which planes you want the AI to control if any) but with a Z axis...and a very in depth RPG element and management of pilots\mechanics\flight leaders and plane resources...also all types of missions sent by HQ, aswell as moving front lines and historical land battles on the operations map which dictate the missions your set and have special events i.e during a massive Arty bombardment there will be a chance your Arty spotter is hit by an Arty shell in flight etc...squadron relocation....a very detailed battle damage report (similar to DarkWind) and realistic Flight models....pilots game experience and skills which translate into how well they will perform the maneuvers you set them (same as DarkWind)...finally the war from mid 1915 to 1918 be covered with new planes coming available based on real time frame (though you may not be issued them and be stuck for awhile with out dated planes)....both sides playable....oh and historical pilot plane skins and a modding programme to create new ones.

or

A wego 2D tactical game at squad level...pref East Front...though I'd buy anything from WW1 or WW2.....lots of chrome and detail...lots of scenarios and a competent AI....a campaign or two would be superb..all in all a game with the depth and production values of WitE but squad level.....

I have no interest in WITE either. Nothing against the game; I'm just not into the Eastern Front. I played AH's Stalingrad many years ago. That satisfied any curiosity I might have had for the subject matter.

No, my only post-ACW focus is WWII Pacific. So long as the games are of quality (like WITP:AE), I can't get enough of that.

Terminus -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 1:24:41 PM)

I'd like to see a grand strategic game of the Seven-Years War. All theatres, all participants. Movement, combat (land and sea), production, espionage, diplomacy. With card play.

Lützow -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 1:49:42 PM)

Will continue to buy titles from SSG, Panther and 2by3, also considering AGEOD. Other than that I'm not really interested in. Majority of new strategy releases is either too casual or simply not my cup of tea.

DampSquib -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 1:51:22 PM)

Close Combat MT-2
A modern version of Squad Assault.
Anything set in feudal Japan.

SlickWilhelm -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 2:09:14 PM)

I would like to see a small unit tactical game in the vein of Age of Rifles, covering the obscure(and not so obscure) wars and battles fought during the period 1850-1923. Crimean War, Anglo-Zulu wars, American Civil War, Spanish American War, Boer War, Russo-Japanese War, Balkan Wars, WWI, Russian Civil War.

I would also like to see an operational scope game covering the same period above. Maybe AGEOD's Pride of Nations will suffice. We'll have to see.

Also a +1. This would be a very fun game on that scale.

Anthropoid -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 2:56:15 PM)

Games based on the Western Civilization Software FOF/COGEE engine:
Vietnam: The Indochina Conflicts
The Hundred Years War

Games based on the Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge Engine
SEAL Team 6: Commando Warfare
The War on Terror: Special Ops

Games based on the WITP:AE engine + substantial additions to cover non-military social dimensions
The Cold War: 50 years of Proxy War
2015 The Coming Sino-Western Conflicts

That should keep them busy for a few months [:D]

I would like to see an updated WW1 Naval game. Maybe even using the new WITE engine. I really like this new engine. I seem to struggle with the WITP engine for some reason. Even after playing WITP for a ton of hours.

Terminus -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 3:46:07 PM)

You HAVE noticed that there's no naval combat in WitE, right?

boatrigm -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 4:14:02 PM)

Yes....I know there is no naval combat in WITE. I think adding naval combat to the WITE game engine for a new game would be cool. I just love the interface and everything.

yoshino -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 4:21:41 PM)

Something like a Medieval Europe turn based strategic level game.
Maybe made by AGE engine or COG:EE engine would be awesome.

hgilmer3 -> RE: What would you like to see from Matrix next? (12/12/2010 5:31:21 PM)

Hundred Years War with multiplayer options - a detailed in depth game with thousands of real people who participated modeled.

Barring that, WiTE engine adopted for a WITW with Africa, Mediterranean, Italy, then Normandy to Berlin.

The last is something they have said they are looking at.

Start by figuring out to simulate naval gunfire over three or more hexes.
