1918, Early December:

Red forces attack Czechs near Penza; defense 5 & luck 59 versus offense 3 & luck 49 equals a lot of dead Bolsheviks, a captured plane squadron and a supply unit. Too bad that Czechs were moving away, so both freebies will be lost next turn.

Potentially due to my reloading of the game, Czech demobilization event does not fire - this will help my Siberian forces.

1918, Late December:

Red partisans near Blagoveshchensk have been reduced in numbers, but still pose a small threat.

Czech demobilization event fires, reducing my Czechs down to 69 elements from almost 500.

Trotsky's stack disappears in unknown direction. This means I get to keep the planes I captured - but disbanding of the Red supply unit seems a waste.

Savinkov uprising:

I am pleasantly surprised by performance of Savinkov's unit in Yaroslav region. He was able to fortify in the area (although a Red attack did destroy his depot), consolidate with Rybinsk rebels, and even capture a Red artillery brigade. I may have to consider diverting a corps or two to link up with him (several other uprisings have already fueled my garrisons in Perm, Kazan, and Simbirsk).

1919, Early January:

Red forces are thrown out of Aralsk: this marks the extent of what my Ural Army can do without accumulating major penalties for being out of the area. On one hand, I can seek good Cossack commanders to take charge; on another, I can use Ural Army to provide garrison and anti-rebel duties, as this still gives them 5 entire regions to cover (so far garrisons have been consisting of little more than an occasional militia element).

This is bad, this is very, very bad. If I didn't have a decent hold on this region, I would have considered pulling back and taking Kazan - Arzamas route. Unfortunately, this guys are blocking me on one side, with resurfaced Trotsky on the other.

Speaking of Trotsky: he's back, after clearly having resupplied at Tambow, and his numbers have grown. I am clearly fighting the best army that Reds have to offer right here.

Ah, nothing like a good snowstorm to help find time for RUS :)

Siberian forces converge on the Stavropol Uprising, crushing one of the groups and bombarding another: an artillery general with 6 batteries makes for a very deadly opponent.

In the south, British-led forces take Samarkand. Red Middle Asia has all but collapsed.

My southern group took a long time to prepare (lots of failed activation checks), but now that they are on the move, they should be unstoppable within that region.

It appears that there are no more Red forces left in the area (which makes me wonder where is Zinov'ev getting supplies to feed his remaining 5,800 men - he must be on his way south to Tashkent.

This had a potential of being very bad - had I not just shipped an entire Cossack division here. Losing that depot would have hurt.

Overall, the war appears to be at a stalemate.

My allies (or, to be more precise, enemies of my enemies) are busy fighting the Ukrainians. That's just great - now I know why all the best Red generals can afford to blockade me full-time...

1919, Early March:

Remaining Red troops in the Far East by Vladivostok are eliminated.

Remaining Green troops near Orenburg are eliminated.

Stavropol uprising turns out to be much worse than expected, as Khanzhin's artillery corps is routed in battle and Syzran is besieged by those pesky peasants.

Red troops finally muster enough reinforcements to displace Savinkov's troops (led by Czech Diterikhs for better stats) in Yaroslav' - Vologda region; supplies are low, and I may lose this group within a month or less.

Thanks :) And - barely. There's 55,000 Red troops coming up on Penza - courtesy of Southern Whites' apparent inactivity...

It's a quiet turn. There's still plenty of snow all around, and broken rail lines to fix.

1919, Early April:

With Red troops apparently missing in action, two major assaults are authorized, west and north from Penza. The one west of Penza finds a few Communists... 55,000 of them, actually... 1,000 elements. I may have to consider retreat.

In Siberia, Red partisans start to spawn.

More Greens die near Stavropol. I can deal with their smaller, secondary stacks - it's their capital that's too tough to crack (although I can tell it's pillaged now, which is very good news...)

1919, Late April:

Red forces continue to advance on Penza (as expected). They manage to catch my troops before they fall back (not as expected).

North of Penza KomUch corps tries to chase down a battered Red division before it has a chance to resupply, but it doesn't cause enough damage.

Savinkov's rebellion is still alive and kicking, to my surprise. They repel a Red attack and then cross Upper Volga River to capture another town.

A quiet turn: both sides are massing their troops together for what appears to be a showdown by Penza (or Syzran, technically, as I retreated).

Red Turkestan army appears by Tashkent (as expected). It seems that there are 2 separate areas on the map right now where there is a major Red stack next to a major White stack next to a major Green stack... Ironically, Whites are in the middle on both occasions.

1919, Late May:

Siberian forces attempt to attack Trotsky near Syzran, but he escapes by rail and sieges Saransk.

1919, Early June:

Siberian forces catch up to Trotsky, but not before he assaults Saransk - this will be forever known as the end of Komuch and the end of White Airforce.

In the south, Red Turkestan Army is caught and annihilated.

Near Volga, Green rebels continue to starve. History will know these times as "Golodnoe Povolzh'e" (Hungry Volga lands)(sadly, a real historic event).

Whites: 11,755, mostly non-recoverable (lost units)
Reds: 13,698, mostly recoverable (wounded units)

Red forces avoid my assault attempts and abandon Saransk depot.

1919, Early July:

Savinkov's uprising is starting to lose its momentum; his men were trying to break through to White forces at Saransk, but that's probably not going to happen now. Savinkov himself is killed in battle.

Second battle of Saransk takes place. Whites lose more despite superiority in numbers - it really sucked to have lost my Volga division - I need to ensure I always keep it with the main forces in future campaigns.

1919, Late July:

Savinkov's uprising is no more. I mourn this last independently-operating rebel force - the rest have either been eliminated or became garrison forces in Siberian Army.

Red forces are clearly on the offensive; more and more of them are infiltrating my ranks, and I can't combat them - all my able units are at Saransk.

Third battle of Saransk takes place - and I lose my commanding officer; Khanzhin will have to take over.

Third round of anti-bolshevik propaganda encompasses 6 Volga regions - gains in loyalty hardly outweigh losses in morale and money. I think that at this point in time I am just stubborn to see if this can work at all, before I give it up.

Reds: 26,003

What are my "Allies" doing? They have not moved north past Balashov - Tsaritsyn (top right corner) region in several months! But they did go after southern Ukraine... Sigh.

Third battle of Saransk takes place - Reds are almost wiped out, and I have to thank their low supply for that - note the 6,500 prisoners :)

Still, I can't help but think that a large portion of their troops has escaped somewhere... I have an important decision to make:

- hold ground, expecting Red Western Front (~900 element strong) to show up
- fall back east, clean up Red troops besieging Kazan, Simbirsk
- push on to Moscow
- fall back south-east, taking out Reds near Saratov
- push on to Tambow, helping out my Southern "friends"

1919, Late August:

Trotsky's stack is all but wiped out: there is a single heavy artillery battery and 2 supply trains left, and that's it... from 55,000 men with 22 artillery batteries, armored trains, and whatnot. Red forces reacted very quickly to his defeat earlier in August, quickly abandoning sieges of Kazan and Simbirsk. They are not running - and they are still at least 500+ element strong - but they are regrouping. Kudos to AI for proper analysis of the situation. Concerns to game engine mechanics for having Trotsky return to the same area after a major defeat - I could see his stack retreat west, yet when the turn was done, he was back again.

Oh, and Red Vatzetis is in a better place now. Sadly, so is my Galkin (most senior KomUch leader starting turn 2).

At Kanadey, just east of Penza, a small Red stack gets ambushed by my Cossack Army.

At Ershov, just west of Uralsk, my scouting force researching Red presence in Saratov area, gets mauled.

A rather quiet turn. A lot of reshuffling on both sides, but no contact.

French-lend Cossacks route a Red partisan force near Krasnoyarsk. That campaign has been taking way too much time - Janin's strategy rating of 3 had him sitting inactivated 80% of the time for the past year.

Reds are coming in hot from the Saratov area. I may have to deal with that first.

Two Red divisions are still hovering around Simbirsk. I will try to catch them again this turn.

Semenov's been running long-range cavalry raids - with me being on the defensive and with newly-constructed depots all over, he can afford to leave supply behind and hit 6-8 areas a turn.

Note the lone destroyer that's been keeping hordes of hungry, angry Green peasants at bay for a few months now... =)
