alfonso -> Experiment? (2/3/2011 4:53:25 PM)

A week ago I started my first PBEM as Soviet. Although I think I am doing more or less OK, the reckless style of my German adversary is totally unrelated to what I had seen previously in other AARs. The battle is very vicious, and we are constantly outflanking each other. Today I discovered the following...[:D]

Is anyone out there doing an experiment with me?

Teaching: check the specifications before starting..

I thought the Russians began the 41 Campaign and set up the game options.

If not I would get a DEV to put the settings back down to normal.

alfonso -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 5:03:06 PM)

I accepted a game in the Slitherine Server. I thought the options were fixed by the player who posted the challenge.

I guess it pays to check the settings. After all the Axis has its share of ubersupermen who like to fix things up for an ubersupertime.

von Beanie -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 5:10:33 PM)

Actually, I saw these settings and specifically avoided this player. I wondered when some sucker would fall for it. Now you can't delete it, and there's no easy way to contact your slimy opponent.

Email addresses need to be exchanged automatically when one accepts a challenge on the server!

cookie monster -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 5:12:50 PM)

The more I hear of the server and the problems the guys are having the more I am convinced The Old School Way is the way forward regarding PBEM.

Anyhow, the game is very interesting. Let's see what happens...

Well, to be honest, in this case it would be my fault, not the server's

What's the nickname of your opponent alfonso?

PeeDeeAitch -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 6:22:17 PM)

Seems like a rather dumb thing to do, what is the value in playing another on those settings?

My apologies, I wasn't criticizing you (in fact you DO become a legend if you win [:)] ), I was criticizing your opponant - he gets nothing out of this, no learning, no bragging rights, nothing.

For me the pbem server gaming has worked flawless. One knock is you can't go back to old saves and restart a particular part of the game .. say if a patch was released that could make dramatic difference.

Well people like Gilles123 will be out there ... you can contact him via the Slithern forum as his username there will be Gilles123. Send him a 'wtf dude' nasty gram. Good thing you caught it before getting too far?

email 2by3@2by3.com and tell them to delete your game and they will.

bwheatley -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 7:40:51 PM)

The good thing is you will also probably eventually win :).

You will need to focus more on mobile warfare and trapping his units too. Give it a run and see what you can do. If you can't get anywhere in winter i'd say tell him DIAF and delete the game.

Q-Ball -> RE: Experiment? (2/3/2011 8:13:17 PM)

Nice of him to ease-up on the Fort Build level!

Until you posted that, I didn't even know you could monkey with those settings in a PBEM. Both my opponents are honorable, so no worries, but good to know for future.....

alfonso -> RE: Experiment? (2/4/2011 4:44:12 PM)

After reading in the manual what are the effects of those settings and analyzing the game with some attention, I realize that what I described yesterday as “interesting” is in reality a freak combination of German random forward movements with a deterministic succession of (really not) incredible rolls in every battle.

Each turn I can isolate most of his spearheads, but like veritable Ubermenschen they repulse any attempt to force a surrender. In this swamp battle (German attackers are isolated for the second consecutive week), observe the modified combat value. That is a typical increase. And what means C&C? The only German attacks I see with a 100% of Command mod, are those with only one Division. My efforts to keep my command chain more or less in order are almost futile. Even so, I have been able to destroy 4 Panzer and one Mot Divisions. He has lost 268.000 men and I 1.000.000 in turn 7. Rather poor for Germany.

Supply? Bah! He is not repairing rails! What for?

Air? Well, I am bombing Ploesti each turn. Who cares?

I have a couple of isolated Divions in the German rear since turn 1 and 2, and one is about to reconquer Riga and the other is planning a ship trip back home from Liepaja. Or perhaps I should march with it towards Berlin?

Summarizing, a complete waste of time.

I have the hope that my adversary reads this and can offer an explanation. But from now on, I will press F12 as soon as I receive a notification from Slitherine that it is my turn again.

Either this is a joke or some sort of stress test on the game engine. Or perhaps both.

2ndACR -> RE: Experiment? (2/4/2011 5:56:29 PM)

Geez, just whip up on him. Just by those losses etc, he needs all the help he can get. LOL

rjh1971 -> RE: Experiment? (2/4/2011 9:14:59 PM)

Alfonso, take a look here http://www.slitherine.com/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=19326 and contact your opponent.
Don't forget to keep us posted, we want to know the end of the story. [:D]

Ketza -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 1:58:44 AM)

I started a game with him some 10 turns ago and didnt check the settings. He is a total noob and needs all the help he can get. I have surrounded and made surrender 4 Panzer and one motorized division in our game:

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/Gilles.jpg[/image]

I also have all of AGN surrounded.

[image]http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm11/Aztek43/gilles2.jpg[/image]

I am not even really trying. [8D]

Flaviusx -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 3:00:45 AM)

Gee whiz. Now I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the guy. But seriously, at these settings, the German has to work to lose.

Ketza -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 3:06:01 AM)

Wow rereading your post both of our games against him are almost identical. Very strange.

2ndACR -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 3:14:43 AM)

Quit picking on the kid and pull back. Mercy.

Flav, go over and help the poor kid out. LOL He needs it.

Aurelian -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 3:31:32 AM)

He needs the "I win!!" button.

Thank you!!!!

I have emailed him, and I have received this answer!

"Hiya – I’ll need to look up the settings – but if I’ve favoured the Axis it was because certainly re moral, admin etc I believe that the Axis scored higher on those. If you want we can always restart at default?

It will be better when multiplayer provides a message etc service.

Kind Regards

Gilles"

The Axis scored higher. He favoured the axis. [:)]
Well, I will take his default offer; he graciously concedes that to me...

2ndACR -> RE: Experiment? (2/5/2011 8:49:30 PM)

LOL, of course he does, he has already lost the game.
