shi4stone -> BA freeze and says AMD driver has stoped responding and is succesfully recoverd (2/5/2011 11:44:05 AM)

After random number of turns, either on my or AI turns, picture freeze, music still on, switch back to desktop okay, lowerright corner pop up says'AMD driver has stoped responding and is succesfully recovered' (Win7 64bit ATI 5850 DxDiag in attachment)
If now I switch back to game, maybe I can play a few more turn before next VPU recover, but then it became more often and finally frozen immediately when I switched back to BA.
I tried all resolutions from 800*600 up to 1600*900, no difference, also tried install/uninstall new display driver, no difference either. BTW, this happens to both 1.31 and 1.51.

Please help, cause I just start to fall in love with this game!!!

Hmmm - if the driver is crashing, there isn't much we can really do [&:] Is it a WHQL certified version of the driver, as these are supposed to basically be crashproof as part of the process.

Are you running overclocked at all? That kind of behaviour could be due to overheating.

No, I did not overclock or change anything of the driver setting, and the graphic card temperature reading is 69 centidegrees when playing BA, and it is running at much higher temp when I play other big 3D game without problem. so I doubt it is overheating. (5850 should not be too stressed by BA I guess)
And I tried the default driver come with the laptop as well as those new versions from ATI website...so...
I tried BA on my office laptop, it works fine. But I can\t play on that everyday...

The problem is that as the game isn't crashing, none of my crash tracking stuff is going to be able to give me any info. Unfortunately laptop drivers often tend to be customised and so can end up with odd bugs which don't show up anywhere else.

Have you tried running without shadows enabled and/or running in a window?

Cheers

I am aware of the fact that some laptop drivers do have peculiar behaviors sometime, but it usually can be solved by update or roll back to different versions of drivers. never seen such case, that the game just won't stop crashing the driver again and again, and it is not Crysis-kind of monstrous demanding game. (I do recall Rail road typhoon 3 seems to have done similar job many years ago.)
I did tried no shadow 800*600*16 or compatible or anything I can think of...
As much as I am frustrated by this issue, your help is certainly very much appreciated! And I have to say if BA is not such an addicting game, I won't care so much if it doesn't work...[8D]
