Does this mod does not have the names and factories in Romania and Hungary?

No, not at this time.

EDIT 10 MARCH 2012

DON TO THE DANUBE MAPS ADDED

Two download folders: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/Don2DanubeMaps_Zoom2.zip and http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/Don2DanubeMaps_Zoom2b.zip

Adds place names and resource icons to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania etc.

Overwrite your existing files (including a couple of your earlier map mod files) after backing up.

Enjoy!

PLUS Fix for map 40 - adds missing place names for two towns (Stefanesti and Sipote): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/40.tga

Yes. Both games use the same map files. However, as a general precaution before installing any map mod, always make a copy of your map folders before you insert the new version. That way you can easily revert to the originals without having to re install the game.

Note that my files are all just TGAs - graphics files, or images. They don't change any of the game mechanics, data or scenarios.

Edit, Nevermind I am not sure why but I had to make the entire WITE folder writeable first.

Problem solved I gonna go take a look now :-)

This looks lovely, but I cannot seem to make my Zoom2 folder to allow write, Everytime I go to the folders properties and uncheck read only and apply, it is still read only when I check again and so unzipping does not work :(

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Where is the game installed? If it's inside C:/program files then the folder may be protected. I always install to C:/Matrix Games/etc. to avoid that.

If you do reinstall direct to C:/ then you should be able to copy over your save games to the new install and not lose anything. Obviously, test the new install fully before you remove the old one!

CarnageINC -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (4/19/2012 4:44:55 PM)

Hey Red, would you consider a consolidation of your map mod into one package?  I think I missed a map reloading my game.

Which map are you missing?

CarnageINC -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (4/21/2012 8:31:17 PM)

I got it Red, I didn't realize your posting of 123 had them all consolidated for use in the vanilla WitE.  Thanks for the work you've done, superb sir superb!

No problem! You would have had a log wait for the missing map - in Botswana now! Only two weekends at home since March :(

Tarhunnas -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (5/19/2012 12:58:40 PM)

This is an excellent mod and I really appreciate the effort you have put into it! I certainly don't want to complain, but there are still a rather large number of errors in spelling. Or, not really errors, but the problem is that the map mixes English and German transcription of Russian place names. Everything with W or SCH in it is German transcription and should be changed. For an example, "Sytschewka", west of Moscow, should be "Sychevka".

Hi there. I believe that most errors you find will be errors in the game. The Mod uses the same names as those programmed into the game by the devs, to avoid confusion for players.

If there are town names in my map mod that don't match the game names (the name you see when you click on the town) let me know and I will correct those. Any other errors need to be reported to Matrix in the tech thread here.

Unfortunately not. Those names on the map that do not match the game names coincide exactly with those that have German transcription, and there are a number of them, primarily in the area north and east of Moscow. Again, I do not want to complain about your excellent mod, but those are errors in the mod, not the game.

Sytschewka should be Sychevka
Sagorsk should be Zagorsk
Werbilki shuld be Verbilki
Rogatschewo should be Rogachevo
Kaschin should be Kashin
Nossilowo has apparently been renamed in the game to Kiverichi
Wolga should be Volga
Alexandrow should be Aleksandrov
Kowrow should be Kovrov
Schatura should be Shatura
Kolstchugino should be Kolchugino
Jurjew-Polskij should be Yuryev-Polsky
Susdal should be Suzdal
Teikowo should be Teikovo
Konakow should be Konakovo
Not an exhaustive list

I guess that at some point you must have used a list of towns with German transcription, and that is causing the errors.

Also why is "Weissrussland" in German and "Valdai Hills" in English? And why are those two named, one Soviet Republic and one geographic feature, but no other features of those types? Personally I would suggest that those names be removed, or be consistent and name all features of that type in the same language, but IMHO that would clutter up the map unnecessarily.

Sorry to be pointing out errors, I only want your great mod to be even better!

Edit: Added a screenshot to show what I mean. Locations underlined in red are examples of those in German transcription, the W is a dead giveaway, all those with W in them should be changed, and all with SCH in them.

Gewehr43 -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (6/4/2012 6:48:36 PM)

Just downloaded the newest version and still find numerous German place names, especially in East Prussia, mispelled. Unlike Russian place names German names are only speeled one way. If you need a list of the typos just ask.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (6/14/2012 4:41:14 PM)

Hi. Sorry, but I haven't looked in this forum for a while.

Is it only the Kalinin map that's affected?

Redmarkus5 -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (6/14/2012 4:50:38 PM)

OK, here's the deal.

I didn't use any other source file when I made these edits - I used the game itself and typed each town name from the in-game mouse over info box onto the map file in Paint.

So, a difference like the one shown here can't be a typo and it doesn't come from a list of place names - I don't have one.

The devs must have changed the names for many towns in the program in one of the recent patches?

Sadly, I am not willing to do this mod over. It's time to tell Gary Grigsby to put town names on his damn maps, as he should have done from day 1.

Redmarkus5 -> RE: (REL) Place Names Mod by Redmarkus (6/14/2012 6:30:57 PM)

Been thinking about the typos, because I don't usually make many. Here's a possible explanation.

My trigger for developing this mod was Goran's map mod - I liked the concept, but I didn't like the large font or the fact that he was adding towns to the map that don't exist in the program.

So, it is possible that when I started my mod I had Goran's mod installed. I don't have time to check this now, but if anyone has Goran's mod installed and sees the same spelling errors as the ones in my mod, then that is the explanation.

Regardless, I am afraid that my work on WitE mods is over...

redmarkus,

This will always be a great mod. Thank-you for taking the time to produce it. I use it and am better off for it.

Here you go - give it about 10 minutes before you DL as it's still uploading. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/WitE_Zoom2_NoGrid.zip

The Zip process got a bit screwed up on these files so you need to unzip all the way down.

There was very little demand for the now grid version.

There's a good WitE Wiki somewhere that has links to all mods.

I think that must be it, because Gorans mod used the German transcriptions of the place names. Sad to hear there will be no more improvements, but it is still a great mod. And I agree with you, the place names should have been in the game from the beginning.
