2nd Army is just the HQ formation not a full army. I can't imagine that there is a multi divisional force anywhere in the pacific considering he will have to bring everything possible just to have a chance to finish off India.

Yes but remember that 16k men were also reported at Iwo...with an heavy mortar unit too...so i'd say that the forces there were, for sure, strong enough to repulse my aborted invasion...

Saros -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 12:34:04 PM)

Yeah they would likely have been enough to stop the invasion. However a base force is ~3k men with the 16th HQ being another 1500. Add in some engineers and air support and there isn't likely to be much more than an ind rgt and maybe a Naval guard unit or two.
Then again I have never played scen 2 so i'm not too sure what is available.

Also any plans for using the emergency reinforcements? They mostly arrive at Aden right?

Canoerebel -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 12:48:00 PM)

I've been gone a week, so I'm just catching up here.  I see that Picket has begun his charge after giving Meade and Hancock plenty of time to organize their defenses.

I've already sent the 5th and 10th Indian Divisions (both 450 AVs strong) from Aden to Karachi. I'm now considering what to do with the rest (i have more 1400 AVs between Aden and Adebadan) but i think i'll follow Andy's suggestion and keep them there in order to have a landing force to use against the Indian Coast or Scoodra once the situation at Karachi is stabilized (meaning once the siege will have reached a statlemate - if ever).

8000 AVs behind 9 forts 2x terrain and with 500k supplies will surely be a tough task for the japanese army. No matter what. If i manage to keep Karachi supplies (which isn't exactly an easy task) i think i can hold.

CR...yes, he game me a lot of time to prepare my defences. I think i couldn't do much more in terms of defensive positions and, gotta say, overall now i'm happy about the decision to dig in Karachi instead of Bombay...At this point Bombay would have been completely cut off from any reinforcement or supply route while Karachi's "life cordon" is still active and alive!

Now Rader will have to drive all the way eastwards from Jodpur and take the longer route to get to hyderabad. think it will take him not less than 1 month to get safely to Multan with all his forces...My calculations say he won't reach Karachy before November...

Canoerebel -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 1:27:18 PM)

Are you bombing his troops in transit to slow them down?

I tried to but he has LRCAP everywhere and he's moving his troops massed with all his AAs so it becomes really really expensive...i'll wait to have them closer. In the meanwhile i'll target his AFs (not Jodpur where all his AA is stacked) so to force him to keep CAP and so disperse some of his fighter groups.

Canoerebel -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 1:39:15 PM)

It doesn't take much to slow down ground troops.  I think even light raids that show no combat damage will slow down some ground units (automtaically switching them from "Move" to "Combat" modes).  Slowing down just a few units at a time might really slow down the IJ advance so that the army might be delayed for days or even weeks in concentrating to attack.  Try a few max altitude raids by a small number of 4EB.

Flak is deadly even at 22k over japanese stacks...however CR now Rader is massing everything at Jodpur so he has no units moving around (a part from those which are sieging Dehli)...as soon as he moves from Jopur i'll re-evaluate the situation. My idea is to start bombing the, as soon as they approach Multan so that his LRCAP won't be so deadly.

I dont know much about the US civil war, but I guess this was the confederate equivalent of the charge of the Light Brigade?

He can't seriously hope to take a base containing 8000AV with plenty of supply behind 9 forts and x2 terrain bonus?

Saros -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 3:17:35 PM)

I think he's going to reach Karachi and just about die from shock.

Andy Mac -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 3:27:30 PM)

Use you bombers on hias rear area ports hit his supply dumps and slow down the unload rate

I've made up my mind and ordered to the 27th US Division at Noumea to pack everything and be ready to be loaded on transports. This big unit will be attached with a NZ bde, 1 Aus Bde, 1 Arty unit, 1 Eng unit and 1 Tank Bn and will form the Port Moresby invasion force.

I hope this is a matter of speech and that you are not placing them in strategic mode to load them on a transport TF?

Terje

He's unloading supplies at Calcutta as far as i know so well far away from my possible targets. However i'll try to hit his read area bases in order to burn some of his supplies

Terje...yes, in strategic mode to get back to Brisbane...then i'll load them in amphib TFs and in combat mode [;)]

Thanks for caring [:)]

Nemo121 -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 10:44:46 PM)

You'll almost certainly burn more supplies keeping those bombers in the air then you will remove from him with your bombing. Now is the time to pull those bombers out and begin saving PPs.

IF you lose Karachi it will be because you run out of supplies, not firepower. So, removing those bombers and their huge supply burden is now a priority task for you.

GreyJoy -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/19/2011 11:42:54 PM)

It's a tough call Nemo. I understand the problem of burning supplies but at the same time i also get the necessity of slowing him down whenever i can. The presence of my 4Es alone forces him to keep his fighters on CAP or to concentrate his AA in one location at time. Keeping them in the air is a priority at least as it is not to burn supplies in vain. So i'll keep them but will use them wisely...more that a threat in being than a real weapon (i won't try to tangle his air force anymore directly with them).

Sept 13,14,15 and 16 1942

Jodpur keeps on growing and Delhi is finally begin to fall. He brought in more infantry regiments and forts started to crumble. I think tomorrow we'll lose the city.
100k supplies are now enroute for Karachi in two different convoys. If everything goes as i plan by the next 8 days i'll have easily passed the 500k stock!

In SOPAC the 27th US division arrived at Brisbane and the rest of the invasion force is moving also towards Oz, while my surface force is still refueling and R&R at PH.

Efate and Lungaville are growing fast. They are now almost operative as advanced bases. Slowly i'm moving planes to this front.

Finally i started to gain PPs back (still in negative however). all the ships and airgroups that needed to be withdrawn has been and i hope for October to get my PPs again in positive so i'll be able to get some more flexibility...

The Indian Fighter force is ready for the battle. We have 430 combat planes waiting for him at Karachi. The cream of the allied pilots are there and the best fighters the allies can put in line. Couldn't do more i guess.

Maybe when you say it he'll listen. He doesn't believe me.

Methinks GreyJ has no idea how fast half-a-million supply can go away when 8000 AV are put under stress . . .

witpqs -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 5:26:59 AM)

Don't worry - let him see it to really know it. He also might just figure out some angles that we haven't...

GreyJoy -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 8:00:45 AM)

Sept 17, 18 1942

Another quiet turn.
The only thing of any importance to be reported is the attack, conducted by 70 4Es, against Ahmedabad (North of Surat). We found 50 fighters on leaky CAP (a mix of zeros, oscars and Tojos). Despite the opposition we managed to shoot down 20 bogies with the loss of only 1 B-17 and the base was badly damaged. As foreseen he cannot have flakand CAP everywhere!

I made some calculation about the 4E supply usage. It doesn't seem that the use of 70 4Es really impacts the daily supply usage. Not considering the inner production of Karachi and the other related bases (which is small anyway) the last 2 days of raid have eaten 1000 supplies.... i want to better check taking into consideration other factors...

Dehli fell today. Now he has a good base in the eastern part of India and i'm sure he'll now shift his attention on Lahore, Ralpawindi etc...

In the meanwhile at Jodpur he has massed 200 units...[8|].

Intel keeps on giving me good hints about his troop disposition in the Pacific and DEI.
It seems that at Iwo there are (at least):
2nd Army HQ
a base force
the Guards Mixed Bde
an heavy Mortar regiment
an Eng Regiment

...wow....

At Timor there's the 15th Army HQ...and at Scoodra another Army HQ is present...better to keep notes of these infos!

Also a tank regiment is enroute for Sosarbaja...so he's sending reinforcements almost everywhere...

Canoerebel -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 12:55:35 PM)

GreyJoy keeps coming up with new and exciting ways to spell the names of exotic places. My favorites thus far: Scoodra, Sosarbaja and Ralpawindi.

I am reporting these creative efforts to the AE Kangaroo Court (see The War Room).

GreyJoy -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 2:00:37 PM)

LOL....[:D]Ralpawindi is incorrect?...gotta check [&:]

jeffk3510 -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 2:33:46 PM)

Scoodra is by far my favorite.  I saw it spelled correctly in some other AARs, and I almost forgot what they were talking about.

String -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 6:45:29 PM)

Greyjoy, I see a few untaken Japanese bases still in new caledonia. See that you take them, otherwise you might suffer from similar tactics by your opponent.

GreyJoy -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 10:15:22 PM)

Yes String, thanks, i'll do that!

Sept 19-20 1942

Bad news.
As you remember, i had placed the Indian BNs all around the bases North of Dehli to prevent the para-drops.
Rader, who is no fool, attacked with 300 bombers my LCUs at Multan where i had 100 AVs (divided in 3 different Battallions). Then he paradropped 5 units who shock attacked and got mauled the first day, but the second manage to obtain a 1-1 and bring down the forts to 0.
Could not do anything more. More units would have meant more LCUs destroyed by his bombers without any real hope of help.
But now the threat is big. The front is in danger to be cut in two pieces with Rader massing at Multan (using railtransports)...at the very gates of Hyderabad.
I'll try the impossible to save Multan. Tomorrow we'll bomb the hell out of his bombers bases and of his paras at Multan. At the same time we'll use 50 Transport planes to deliver more men into the meatgrinder...
22 Fulmars has been directed to Multan in order to provide the last desperate attempt to give some CAP against his unescorted bombers (even if i fear tomorrow he'll come with sweeps-escorts)...these guys will probably sacrirfice themself but if there's a chance to make this attempt of his fail...well i have to try! Holding Multan may mean weeks of time gained...losing it would mean a cathastrophe.
50 4Es will hit Delhi where no CAP is present and where 200 bombers are reported. At the same time more than 100 bombers will hit his LCUs at Multan.
Say a prayer for me...

His BBs again showed up west of Surat. Everything is ready to meet them. I have 1 CA, 6 CLs and 6 DDs waiting for them at Karachi along with 80 torpedo bombers ready to strike and 25 subs patrolling the harbour approaches...

Good Lord i'm sweating....

Andy Mac -> RE: LOD IS CROSSED (6/20/2011 10:41:33 PM)

Hmmmm do you not have a Bn off the rail net at 52,11 one unit there and strat mode is a no no

ps I would care to much most of you units are back north of the desert ....arent they....?

Start to think about pulling out the big 4E and whatever 2E bombers you have left they will just eat supply keep a few for harrassment and any low nav trqained or torp sqns you have but the rest its time to go
