Here, Tom and I are faced off one another due to his declaration of war against my ally Roy. We are not progressing the war against each other; just protecting our assets I think.

Battle at my ally's southern border.  Tom attacks the eastern border of the AI as Allan attacks the northern portion.

Been busy eliminating New Union pockets around Jena while continuing to build up for the final assault on New Union's capital. At the moment Tom and I are apparently content to sit as neither of us appear to have the combat power to do much more. If my "ally" would pitch in that might tip the balance; however, he seems to have his own agenda.

Turn 8 sent.  Captured an AI city but can only product supply and political points.  Seems like having raw materials is very important to start as that is how you build your forces.  I am sure I will eventually need oil, but I do not have enough mechanized forces yet.

Started a tentative offensive vs Roy.  He is being supported by his ally.

Not quite ready to assault New Union's (AI) capital but almost there.

Hmmm, I'm beginning to see why Tom is so successful in this game. He his all business in the conduct of his military operations with a sharp focus on his goals. He has made a dash into Russ's territory, possibly in an effort to turn my flank. He'll likely succeed unless Russ actively opposes him.

I believe the map is 71x41 hexes and it is wrap-a-around.

Turn 9: New Union capital falls to my veteran troops! My Soviet friends took out another new New Union city just before my turn. New Union (AI) is defeated! High command is now in discussions about future war efforts.

Turn 10: Wiped out some New Union stragglers. Armies being redeployed and strengthened. Research scientists working overtime. High Command finalizing future war plans. Wish I could share some screenshots but can't give that kind of intel to the enemy.

Tom attacked and drove some of my units back but thankfully my Soviet ally counter-attacked, driving Tom back. Tom has attacked one of Russ' resource hexes with level bombers. Tom is being very aggressive.

Tom has connected two seperated sections of his empire together at the expense of the AI. he is on the verge of taking the AI capitol of the Kaliphate soon. Russ has taken his second city. Allan is engaged on his western border with stronger AI nations. I seek to shore up my ally's lone/isolated state from Tom's clutches. Roy goggles up the continent in the east. Tom has positioned subs off of Ro's isolated state and I seek to keep him there to keep Tom off my southern border. Interesting all around.

Russian soldiers move in "Reading". Our alliance with Germania is fruitful. Our soldiers trudge into the ruined city and look forward to rebuilding soon as war continues elsewhere. Here is the tactical situation in my north.

Turn 11: Russ and Tom continue to butt heads near my single city on their continent. Tom has built up a large unit of artillery (10) near that location and is pounding my infantry with it. Unfortunately, at the moment I have no counter to it. Elsewhere, in a bold move I've declared war on the Confederates (AI). Why not add to their misery since everyone else is attacking them. I'll see what part of the carcass I can get for my empire.

Turn 12...two in one day is satisfying.  Took a bloody nose with an illadvised assault in snow against a defensive hex of his.  I paid the price.  The hook north continues.

One thing i am liking about ATG is you are actually constrained by ore and oil now.  In the old ATG, you could just crank out armored/air units without a second thought.

Now, i find myself putting greater value on infantry forces (mortar, machinegun, bazooka, etc.).  The value of artillery is far greater now as well, not guzzling the oil like an air force does.

Turn 13: The Empire strikes back! The glorious troops of the Empire have taken down the Confederate capital. In addition, they took down two of the Eastern Empire cities. They will be at the gates of Minsk, their capital in short order. If my ally the Soviets join in the attack, it may be over even quicker.

Meanwhile, on the other land mass, Tom is spanking Russ and me on the southern front. I'm just fighting a delaying action trying to hold my only city for as long as possible. I hope Russ can make a recovery but at the moment Tom is a fearless juggernaut. I'm sure Tom is pouring reinforcements into his capital via his overseas cities. If I had a navy I would try to interdict those routes. I did sink Tom's transport with three units aboard with my shore batteries. Transports should never venture within range of known artillery batteries.
