A broad front push over mountain ranges in winter....just wrong on so many levels...

hmm interesting.. it seems counter intuitive that mud would be worse for moving through mountain hex than snow, shouldnt it make more sense that mountain hexs are not as affected by mud regarding movement, and much more penalized for winter, considering the elevation allows better drainage but also more severe snowfall

Turn 201. April 19 1945. Mud.

The Finns threw in the towel this turn. Otherwise very little happening. The mud even put a stop to the Soviet mountain offensive in the Carpathians, which the snow apparently couldn't.

A shot from the central front, showing supply.

And here is the Soviet railheads. This information will show if you switch to showing rail before clicking end of turn. This feels a bit cheesy, and not sure it is WAD. The information is there anyway, it can be gotten by hovering over every single hex, but it is a very painstaking process, this is much faster.

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/22/2012 9:36:12 AM)

No reinforcements to be expected from this point on... Entering uncharted territory!

I am thinking maybe this is an argument against the fixed reinforcements for the Germans. Not that it really matters, I don't have the ARM points to fill out my existing formations, so why would I want to build new ones?

I do have 450k men in the manpower pool though.

Yes, the mode is not switching back to norm in H2H games. I will get it done.

Mud can also mean late/early snows in the mountains, but the road type is also important. If the roads are unimproved, heavy rains would affect their usage as well.

Spring should mean avalanche season in the mountains.

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/22/2012 12:30:25 PM)

Turn 202. April 26 1945. Mud.

Soviet Tank Corps continue to infiltrate across the Carpahian mountain ranges. Otherwise, very little happening.

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/22/2012 10:46:44 PM)

Turn 203. May 3 1945.

The mud has dried out over a large part of the front. I northern Ukraine (or rather, southern Poland) the withdrawal starts. A strong force of panzer divisions are in reserve as usual, to give the Russkies some unpleasant surprises.

Q-Ball -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/26/2012 10:22:40 PM)

You probably know this, but Nyigrehasa or whatever that city is will trigger a chance of Hungarian surrender. So, the Hungarians might be done pretty soon.........

Congrats on making it past the real end of war date! The US Army should be showing up on the west side of the map any day now.........

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/26/2012 10:35:40 PM)

Thanks! Don't worry, I won't let them run around unchecked. No risk of Hungarian surrender from towns, is there? Only cities?

Thanks! Yes, a long haul, but it's been fun so far, and it will be interestig to see how the campaign plays out.

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/28/2012 7:11:27 AM)

Turn 205. May 17 1945.

A picture from Northern Ukraine, where the Soviets are once again pressing forward. I had intended to retreat more here, but there is still mud in the central part of the front, and a retreat there would mean a retreat out of the mud zone, so as he center holds, the flanks cannot retreat as fast as I had envisaged. Still, I am happy with the mud delaying the Soviets.

As you can see, my reserves continue to mess up Soviet attacks and cause Soviet losses. Losses duríng the Soviet turn (if the losses summary can be believed, which I sometimes doubt) is about 3-1 Soviet-Geman. Not good enough, but still not bad either.

A shot from the Northern part of the front. All is quiet in the mud, but the Soviets are pressing forward west of Riga.

Tarhunnas -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/28/2012 7:49:56 AM)

I have been disbanding a lot of artillery and AA units lately, and their TOE is now at 50%. That sems to have limited the rise in the manpower pool, but not stopped it. Manpower is now at 455k.

Ron -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/28/2012 10:29:57 PM)

Congratulations to both opponents on making it this far!

Looking at the Production screen above I have to think there is something out of whack with the system late-war to have almost half a million in manpower but no armaments?

Wuffer -> RE: 1.04 The Wolf and the Bear (no Gids) (1/29/2012 2:48:20 AM)

As in the dark, desperate days of TOAW - thousends of squads in the pool, but unfortunely some clerks insist of some silly oob's.
Although, on a second thought, we should assume that are exactly this clarks hiding themselfes in the pool, who decide better not to fight, perhaps they are all extra personal for the last propaganda film 'defence of Kollberg'...

At honest, Tarhunnas, that shouldn't really happen! 30 (!!) Divisions of 15,000 men without rifles??
Thank you once more (you both) for playing out (and give some thoughts for a further patch).
