October 24th, 1942 India/Burma After the heavy air attack on the Jameshedpur stack yesterday, I though John might try to catch my bombers with some CAP. So I stood down the bombers to rest and flew some Tojo sweeps. Sure enough there were 5 Hurricane IIc present and we shot them all down. It is possible they were just CAP leakers from Sambalpur, but I'll take RAF kills anyway I can get them. [image]http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/bfeurer/10.24.42%20-%20India_zpsenizomfp.jpg[/image] Easy picking for the IJAAF Our heavy artillery bombards the stack near Jameshedpur and we notice that the 2nd British Division has slipped away to the northwest! Clearly I underestimated how fast that unit would move through the jungle. In hindsight it makes sense of course. The 2nd British had left Jameshedpur before I captured the base, so it had a good 2-4 days of movement before I even started moving into the same hex. I'm that worried though. The 2nd has walked into a hex where one third of the 38th Division is. It is jungle, and hopefully our attack yesterday ran the 2nd British out of supply. Additionally, I will send every bomber I can to hit the 2nd British in case they do try an attack. If CAP is heavy over the 2nd British, then we may take some losses tomorrow as I was running into stacking issues and so I went light on escorts. Hopefully the Nicks on ground bombing can dump their cargo and take care of the fighters if need be. Just need to hold them for a couple days while the 55th Division arrives. If we can hold them there, then it is actually easier for me to eliminate them. In the worst case, if they get away, I still have the 1st and 2nd Armor division about to enter (and hopefully capture) Raipur tomorrow. Assuming they do, they can double back and help block the 2nd British from escaping. Meanwhile, I've ordered all units, other than the 55th Division, to attack the remainder of the stack now that the backbone of it has left the hex. Hopefully that will push the Indians into the jungle/rough hex to the southwest that has no roads. Some smaller units can block them in. DEI/N Australia Bombings continue near Daly Waters. Today Bettys from Koepang take the long trip down and say hello with some 250kg and 60kg bombs. Also, tomorrow we will try an attack on the Darwin stack in the swamps east of Darwin. Pacific Finally get around to dropping a few Naval Guard squads off on Makin and capture the atoll. I should probably make a small airbase here. China The enemy stack northwest of Sian that is fully trapped tries a shock attack against our troops today. They outnumber us 4:1 but are surrounded and presumably have no supply. We have level 2 field forts. Results are 1:8 and the Chinese lose about 5,000 troops and the 8th New Chinese Corp was destroyed. We take 1300 casaulties, but I think we'll be okay. No disruption or fatigue was picked up in the battle. The Chinese do a bombardment at Changsha, but our counter battery fire takes out 300 enemy troops. 2 more days for the march on Tuyun and Kweiyang to start. October 25th, 1942 India/Burma As planned, wave after wave of our bombers and Nicks attacked the 2nd British Division. The jungle and moderate clouds prevented us from doing much direct damage. Their AA guns were firing often though, so hopefully that burned up some supply. In any case, the British didn't attack. The 55th Division reached Jameshedpur and will turn west and march on the British. If the British don't attack tomorrow, or my troops hold, then we will be fine because the 55th will arrive on the scene the day after tomorrow. We did lose a fair amount of planes, about 13, to flak. Tomorrow we will continue but we'll fly in at a higher altitude of about 11,000. Plus I'll stand down the Nicks to give them a rest. Southwest of Jameshedpur, where the main stack is, our attack does well with a 5:1 result. Everyone except for a Ghurka Battalion and the XXXIII HQ retreat to the rough jungle hex to the southwest. The enemy loses 5,000 men, 70 guns and 107 vehicles in the process. That should render the two Indian divisions combat ineffective so they will be easily trapped and eliminated shortly. One more attack will clear the hex. Meanwhile, to the northeast of Ranchi, the 38th/B attacks the enemy troops from Ranchi and pushes them back inflicting 30% casualties. That stack is down to about 900 men over two units. Finally, the surprise of the day, is at Raipur. Our two armor divisions cross the river into the base. I was expecting just a light garrison force. However, along with three small units (including the 6th Heavy AA), was the 268th Motor Brigade which was showing a decent AV. Thankfully our numbers carried the day with a 6:1 result. The enemy units retreated northwest taking heavy losses of 1,250 men, 75 guns and 172 vehicles lost. We also captured 8 Hurricane IIc Trop on the ground. Our armor will rest a day to gather supplies, and then will resume the speed run to Nagpur. The 4th SNLF, already in strat mode at Calcutta, will rail in to cover the garrison until other smaller units arrive via water transport. Our troops will enter their hex tomorrow. We'll see if we are able to attack again before the enemy reaches Daly Waters. Failing that, I will use the small SNLF units to surround Daly and the two divisions will move in to run them out of supply. In the swamps east of Darwin we attack with the 19th Nav Guard and 2 tank regiments. We manage a 2:1 result and inflict about 500 enemy casualties versus 11 for us. Supplies are low so I'll rest tomorrow and then resume the attack. There are about 2,700 enemy troops left so it shouldn't take to long to eliminate this stack. October 26th, 1942 India/Burma We continue to bomb the 2nd British division today. No AA fire though, so hopefully that means the enemy unit is out of supply. No attack from them, so we should be in the clear. The 55th will arrive in the hex tomorrow. Oddly, the 4th Raiders were taking the rail to Raipur. I thought they would go along the coast and then north, but they went via Jameshedpur instead and got 'stopped' in the hex with the British. We own the hexsides in and out, so I gave them orders to continue on. I'm not sure if they will move on tomorrow or not. The two armor divisions shed their disruption and gathered supplies, so they are ordered to continue the drive to the northwest. If the 4th Raiders are indeed stuck, then the 3rd Raiders are already in strat mode and can move here tomorrow to cover the garrison requirement. Our troops in the jungles southwest of Jameshedpur attack again and although the 171 Wing Base Force retreats to the southwest, we manage to destroy the XXXIII Indian Corp HQ unit. Our SNLF unit has already moved into the hex to the west, and a division will follow tomorrow, so the enemy units that have retreated to the southwest won't be able to go far. DEI/N Australia The dot base at Banggi was missed until now, and we unloaded a few squads there. They will capture the base tomorrow. In Australia we catch up the enemy stack. We will attack tomorrow, and hopefully catch a least a couple units before the leave the hex. Either way, the next move will be the two divisions heading into Daly Water, while several SNLF units surround the base and attempt to close all hexsides. Intel has shown movement on the trail from the east coast of Oz, so the only way to hang on here in the near future will be to wipe out this stack at Daly in short order. Pacific We occupy the last dot base that we will be taking in the Pacific today at Vanua Balavu. Heavy Radio Traffic detected at Tahiti. I wonder if John is building up a large force there to hit Suva with? I have a Glen sub at Suva in the process of fixing their Glen. Once repaired, I'll send the sub down to investigate and see if we need to bring the KB down for guard duty. In the meantime I've moved an extra Sentai of Nells and Zeros to Suva. I'm probably just jumping at shadows, but with so much territory under the Rising Sun, there are a lot of places the Allies could try to take a nibble. China We attack at Changteh today getting a 1:1 result, but the casualties are very lopsided in our favor. Forts are still at zero and given the lack of disruption to our troops we will try another attack immediately tomorrow. Four division set out from Liuchow on the road to Tuyun. With luck this surge will be enough to clear Tuyun and Kweiyang. That will open to door to the Chinese bases west of Kweiyang over to Burma, as well as give us a couple divisions that can close the southern hexes to Chungking. I would love to have Chungking fully closed before the end of the year. In the northeast, at Paotow, most of the elements of the 1st Division are there and will attack to clear some Chinese guerrillas. I figure it should give the 1st Div some experience. It is about ten more days before the last element is bought and the unit is formed up. I'm thinking it could go to Suva if I see signs of an offensive down there.

October 27th, 1942 India/Burma Off Rangoon a small transport is hit by an enemy sub, sinking the ship along with some resources. I've been waypointing my convoys west of Port Blair to avoid these subs, but I missed this one apparently. DEI/N Australia The dot base at Banggi (northeast corner of Borneo) is occupied. This coy will load up and head to a dot base I missed on New Guinea. After another attack on the trapped stack near Darwin, we are low on supply and will rest tomorrow. Results were 4:1 and we suffer no casualties so shouldn't be much longer. Father south, we manage to catch the enemy stack headed towards Daly Waters. They have supply and are tougher than expected. Still, we manage a 1:1 result and casualties are favorable, but it was a tough fight. Our troops will need to rest a day and I suspect the enemy stack will make it to Daly Waters in that time. We'll need to surround them and keep supplies away in order to defeat the enemy troops. Once the stack near Darwin is finished, I'll have another 3 tank regiments to lend a hand. Pacific SS S-30 managed to put a torpedo into CL Natori. The sub will move off to Baker and then Truk for repairs. Tomorrow we will hit the airfields to prevent any fort rebuilding. Also, we'll take the opportunity to let our forces on the road between Changteh and Changsha try an attack. To the northwest, our attack at Paotow easily ejects the Chinese with a 4:1 result against level 2 forts. About 35% of the enemy are lost in the retreat, so I suspect they will have a harder time taking bases in the in future. Submarines I lined up several subs in the path of convoy headed to Pearl yesterday. Today I-6 got chased away. I have a couple more in the path, maybe we can get a shot off tomorrow.

October 28th, 1942 India/Burma We bombard the 2nd British which is firmly contained now. Tomorrow another division will arrive and the next day our two heavy artillery and another division will arrive, then we will start our attacks to hopefully eliminate yet another British division. On the right side of our front, the 38th/B Division attacks the 99th Indian Brigade causing the enemy unit to surrender. Another Indian unit (albeit a small one) destroyed - Banzai! The enemy units at Benares have retreated to the base to the northwest, presumably to defend in a larger force. We will capture Benares for free tomorrow along with its 20 Light Industry. Once the 14th Tank and 38th/B catch up, I might try to cross the river behind that base and attack it without having to cross the river. Our units will split up and attempt to surround the base. Four small SNLF units are doing the surrounding while the two divisions march into the base proper to attempt to keep the defenders occupied. We sent the Sallys to hit the airbase at Daly Waters mainly to prevent fort building and destroy supplies, but we got lucky and destroyed a couple Kittyhawk IA on the ground. China Our attack on the road between Chengteh and Changsha went okay with a 1:2 (815:867) but it was close to 1:1. Casualties were about even. One more day of rest and we will resume attacks at Chengteh. Submarines The line up of submarines had a busy day today. First I-172 fired at DD Clark and missed. Then I-6 was spotted by ASW twice but got away cleanly. Next I-169 fired at DD Flusser, also missing. During the day, I-169 took another shot, this time at DD Jarvis, but again a miss. Through all the day and night attacks we did not suffer any damage thankfully. One of the enemy destroyers ran out of ASW ammo. It is clear that John sent out a couple ASW task forces to escort these transports in the rest of the way, so I've order the subs to move farther northwest away from Pearl. Hopefully the next convoy we spot will have less ASW help. Other Aircraft Ki-43-IV Oscar advances R&D to 8/44

But you should have some production factories to upgrade to the IV model as well, correct? Oscar IV in 4/43 is a very competitive plane.

I agree but getting the Sam isn't nearly as easy as moving the M8 or 5c forward. Not much of a change, but easy to move it up fast. I've got Georges and Jacks and Sams going in R&D as well, rest assured. And yes, there are other Oscar factories that I can switch over, but I'll want to roll one into production immediately since because of the leapfrogging of other Oscar models, I'll have to pay to convert factories. They won't auto upgrade until the middle models become available.

October 29th, 1942 India/Burma Benares is occupied for free since it was empty. The brigade here will rest in place until reinforcements arrive. The 14th Tank crosses the river in pursuit of the Zhob brigade and shock attacks the enemy unit getting a 37:1 result. The enemy unit jumps across the next river with probably less than 300 men. The 14th Tank will cross tomorrow to try and finish them off. On the south coast of India, the 56th/C Div easily captures Cocanada with a 16:1 result. The 24th Indian Engineer Bn there surrenders and we capture 1,000 enemy POWs. Once I have a garrison unit for this base, the 56th/C will continue to the next base to the west which is a rail junction on the railway east out of Madras. That base will form the left most corner of my defensive perimeter. They should be down to about 1,600 men now, so hopefully no more than two more attacks are needed. Submarines More submarine action near Pearl again. Our subs were moving further out the northeast but that didn't stop us from having a couple more encounters. First I-6 is spotted and escapes. Then I-3 is spotted and takes a DC hit. A bit later, one hex over, I-3 is spotted by a different ASW force and takes a couple more DC hits. Unfortunately the sub is forced to the surface. The result is a forgone conclusion, but I must say I-3 put up a fight. I-3 fired off three or four spreads of torpedoes and plenty of gunfire. None of it connected unfortunately, but it was impressive to watch. It took 32 shell hits to put the big sub under. A bummer to lose I-3 for sure since it is one of the big subs that have tremendous range. The day wasn't over yet though, and although we lost I-3, I-168 managed to sneak up on DD Maury and put a torpedo into the destroyer sinking her quickly. I-168 managed to escape from Maury's companion with no problems and adds a warship to its previous three kills. October 30th, 1942 A very quiet turn today. China An attack here achieves only 1:2 results, but inflicts 1,157 enemy casualties compared to our own of 188. This group will rest while the group to the southeast one hex attacks tomorrow. Other Aircraft Ki-100-I Tony advances R&D to 8/44

October 31st, 1942 India/Burma We received a surprised visit from some British Vengeance bombers at Jaffna. Nine of them bombed the ports at night scoring 1 port fuel hit. No ships there, so I'm not sure why he's bombing there. In the meantime, I sent two destroyers into Madras harbor, but the enemy small craft there evade us. I was hoping to clear the way before the bombardment force goes in. The battleships should arrive at Trimcomalee in another two days. Our first major attack on the 2nd British Division gets a 6:1 result and knocks out about 10% of the enemy strength. They now show disruption and supply modifiers so hopefully continued attacks will make short work of the enemy unit. A bit farther east, the Zhob Brigade surrenders to our tank unit a couple hexes southeast of Benares. DEI/N Australia Another attack on the Darwin survivors fails to force a surrender. Another four hundred casualties are inflicted though. China The attack on the road between Changsha and Chengteh gets a 1:2 result. I mainly did the attack to ensure the Chinese aren't building up any supply reserves. They show a supply negative so that looks good. Other Aircraft Ki-44-IIc Tojo advances R&D to 7/43 A whole slew of air units changed names from a "name Ku letter-#" to a "### Ku letter-#" configuration. More notably, four units increased in size. The largest increase was the 25th Sentai that went up from 12 to 30. November 1st means the D4Y1 is now available. I've converted a 60 plane Val factory over to the Judy. I don't feel a pressing need for navy DBs just yet, so although this production ramp will be a little slow I think it will be sufficient. The J1N1-C and Ki-61 Tony are both available as well, but I will not be building either model. The recon Judy with its single engine is the better deal for navy recon, in my opinion. My final B6N R&D factory repaired today as well.

Peace continues to prevail on the ocean and our fuel stocks continue to rise because of it. On land most of the action was limited to India, but there is still a slow crawl forward in other theaters. CA Portland drops off the sunk list as I expected it would. Several bases captured in India and plenty of LCU points combined to push the VP ratio up to 3.895:1. Air losses were EXACTLY 1 to 1 for the month. In India the big news was the official capture of Calcutta, Howrah and Jameshedpur. Those bases form the 'core' of our Indian conquest. Our forces have already begun to spread out and capture other bases to form a loose perimeter and await the Allied counterattack. Lots of resources are flowing out of India and our forces there are able to rely solely on local supply production. The 2nd British Division should be destroyed soon which will hopefully further delay the inevitable counterattack. In China little movement occurred other than the capture of Ichang and the investment of Chengteh. However, a surge force of four divisions will arrive in Tuyun shortly and should be enough to get the front moving again and allow us to capture Tuyun, Kwieyang and then close up the southern hexsides of Chungking. From there the mountain bases can be captured to connect China to Burma while we begin to possibly attack Chungking. Very little action in the Pacific outside of some submarine activities around Pearl Harbor. In Australia, Darwin is captured and our troops have begun to surround Daly Waters. The enemy looks to be retreating, so we may not be able to capture them, but at least we will have a two base buffer between Darwin and the rest of Australia. November 1st, 1942 India/Burma The Vengeance dive bombers come back to Jaffna today, but this time in the daytime. John indicated they weren't supposed to do so. Of the 16 that came, we took out 12 of them I believe. Lots of kills for some of our Tojo pilots. Another uncharacteristic attack occurred near Nagpur where 16x B-25C Mitchells attacked our Armored divisions. Only a couple squads were damaged. Today's attack on the British was a 19:1 result, with another 500 men, 25 guns and 12 vehicles disabled or destroyed. November 2nd, 1942 India/Burma Yamashiro and Fuso went in to bombard Madras today with underwhelming results. Again I had two destroyers go in to try and clear the way, but they couldn't find any enemy targets. The battleships unfortunately did find one in the form of AMc Cuttack and although the ship was quickly sunk with a couple large caliber shells, I would have preferred to see those shells landing on Madras. We'll rearm and come back. Perhaps I should coordinate with the moon phase better. 35% apparently isn't enough. The Mitchells attacked again today, but this time they hit the base of Raipur and left our armored units alone. The attack on the 2nd British was 45:1 today with 700 men and 22 guns reported as casualties. Most of the fighting squads should be disabled by now. DEI/N Australia The enemy remnants in the swamp near Darwin finally surrendered today. 1,500 enemy troops captured, and several tank units and the 19th Nav Guard are free to get rolling. Our two divisions started bombarding Daly Waters while the various SNLF units continue to maneuver to try and surround the base. The 1st Artillery Mortar is a very effective unit and we scored 117 men, 8 guns and 1 vehicle from the bombardment. Pacific Elements of the 43rd Nav Guard landed on the dot base of Kuria today in the Gilbert Islands and captured it. 8x P-40Es at Canton Island took a run at one of the E class ships I have hunting for submarines in the area. Submarines An enemy submarine was spotted east of Tokyo today. Our SC managed to throw several 4x shots of DC's at, so hopefully we did a little damage. Farther south, we also ran across a sub near Port Hedland and again our SC with a 4x DC rack may have damaged the sub. Nice to see the SC finally attacking. Often they can't find the enemy submarines even though they have decent DC armament. Other Device Mitsubishi Ha-43 advances R&D to 3/43

Your supply situation is a little lower than I would like at this point, BUT you are also playing a lot more aggressive than I might as well. That has its cost in supply. OTOH, you are doing REALLY WELL. Calcutta and a 5:1 CV ratio. Nice. Shokaku is a big loss of course (Zuiho isn't much), but taking 5 allied CV's in return is as good an exchange rate as you can ever hope for. BANZAI!! The taking of Calcutta is a big deal, as you note, it makes you supply solvent in India. It does just the opposite for the allies, they now need to ship in supply to India in preference to OZ ... a good thing for you.

Yea, at least supplies are starting to climb at a decent pace. I'm doing my best not to ship much out from the Home Islands to get the stockpile back into decent shape. The fuel stockpiles bode well also since fuel equals supply once it is back home. Good to know the Allies might be needing to ship supplies in to India and/or Oz.

Sorry for the delay folks. It was a busy couple months. I have been doing turns as fast as I get them, but John has been busy as well and so we haven't spun many over the past couple months. Hopefully things will pick up soon. Anyway - on the overdue reports. November 3rd, 1942 India/Burma Intel indicated ships at Cochin, so we sent some Betty's and Zeros to investigate. Along with a couple port hits we manage to sink the AMc Tanjore. No CAP was present. SS S-30 however manages to put a couple torpedoes into AV Kinugasa Maru. If the AV can avoid anymore torpedo attacks I think I can get her home. I think it is time to give up on the AV's there at Canton though. Mavis transports at Tabi are ordered to fly in some aviation support squads. I will leave the E and SC ships there for now since they might score some more hits on the enemy subs in the area. China Our attack at Changteh get 1:2 odds, casualties are 10:1 in our favor. Hopefully we can take this base soon.

Well, it has only been about 9 months since my last post.. yikes. I realized I have a few days of updates I never got around to posting so I might put them up finally. John hasn't been able to resolve his computer issues yet, and to make matters worse he suffered a fire at his apartment complex so as you can imagine getting his WITP rig running properly isn't top of the list for him. However, I'm hopeful it won't be much longer until we can get back at it. Timing has been okay anyway since I've been busy with a new house in TN (splitting my time between the two states) and selling my CO house. Anyway - not sure if anyone remembers what's going on, but a few posts back is the most recent month summary if you want to catch up. November 4th, 1942 India/Burma Off the coast of Cox's Bazar SS Trusty engages a large xAK in two separate occasions and manages two hits and one dud, but the two hits are enough to sink the ship. On land an important, but not unexpected, victory at Nagpur as our two tank divisions easily force out the enemy troops there. Since Nagpur is the northwest corner of the perimeter I'm attempting to establish, our tank divisions can each head opposite directions now to clear the path back to friendly lines. The enemy lost 1200 men, 37 guns and 49 vehicles in the retreat. Another attack on the British 2nd Division fails to force a surrender, but everyday they must be getting closer to giving up. Three torps is bit too much for the AV and it goes down taking 9 Jakes with it. November 5th, 1942 Quiet day. India/Burma Continued attack on the British 2nd Division, results are now up to 152:1 so I suspect they should collapse soon. One hopes so anyway since they are sitting on one of my rail lines to Nagpur! DEI/N Australia Continued air attacks on Daly Waters, one Nick is lost to ops. Other A pretty old intel report, but nice to see all the same: AP President Jackson is reported to have been sunk near Rockhampton on Jan 07, 1942

November 6th, 1942 India/Burma Today we start to see a response in India from that formidable beast, the heavy bomber. 16x B-24D Liberators flying from Bombay attack our tanks headed east from Nagpur. One tank destroyed, 5 disabled. Thankfully the terrain gives us some cover. In spite of the attack, the 2nd Tank Division easily bounces the previous defenders of Nagpur farther along with a 10:1 attack. The 2nd Tank takes no casualties in the ground action versus 600 men, 9 guns 6 vehicles of the enemy. Odds against the British 2nd Div today are 173:1 - no surrender though - the Brits don't give up easily! [image]http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/bfeurer/11.6.42%20India_zpsqqicsa1g.jpg[/image] Liberators in India DEI/N Australia Air attacks on Daly Waters in support of a ground assault. It appeared the enemy was withdrawing, so rather than taking the chance of them getting away completely, I decided not to wait for my surrounding forces to reach their positions and attacked now. We take the base easily (10:1) and cause a healthy amount of casualties to the retreating ten units (3,700 men, 113 guns, 155 vehicles). Now the Allied troops are split with some east of Daly Waters and some to the south. Our two divisions will split up and chase each stack for a bit just to further degrade them. It is unlikely I can catch them now, but hopefully with enough retreats, and supply challenges in Australia, it will take some time for those units to rebuild. Our two divisions will need to pull back soon anyway to begin preparations for the inevitable counterattack. A ground assault there does well, resulting in 1:1 odds and dropping forts to 0. The Chinese initiate a bombardment at Chungking and we lose 32 men to their 214. I have to assume this is intended to burn Japanese supply more than anything else. Submarines I-2 and I-164 are chased by APDs, DMS and DD Litchfield around Pearl Harbor. These are sub en route to or from the patrol area several hexes east of Hawaii. I've been staring to route the subs up by the French Frigate Shoals to avoid these ASW assets.
