Wow - Can't believe it has been so long since my last post! Turns were slow through the summer so I'm not as far behind as you might think. Just wanted to pop in and say I'm still alive, and hope to get some updates done over this holiday break. Hope everyone is having a good short week!

February 15th, 1942 India/Burma The 56th does indeed secure Cox's Bazaar. We'll split the division and send a unit south to get Akyab next. DEI Near Manado at Sidate, the 900 remaining men of the Manado Garrison surrender as Sidate is catpured by the I/81st Nav Guard unit. The Flores Island hops continue as the III/81st captures Larantoeka. A Dutch sub takes a shot at an SC near Ambon and misses. A couple B-17's take a run at one of our ships here too, but the bombs miss. 13 A6M2s sweep Derby and find 9 P-40Es. Two are shot down and more lost to Ops. We lose two of our own. Pacific Tassafaronga is occupied today, helping to slowly fill in the Solomons with red. Rambutyo is also captured in the Admiralty Islands. Our DMS clear some mines at Port Moresby. China Perhaps because of supply, the Chinese only bombard the 40th Div today. Another valuable day passes. Meanwhile at Chuhsien, our attack falls a little shy 739:469 (1:1), even casaulties, although they have more destroyed than us. Forts stay at zero. Over Liuchow, Oscar C's sweep and hit the AVG/3rd. 10 Oscars versus 6 bad guys. Three H81-A3s go down and all our boys make it home safely. On the ground the Chinese bombard to little effect.

February 16th, 1942 Quiet day overall. It has been so long since I posted, I don't remember where the xAK Minryo Maru was, but it sunk today. DEI East of Ambon the dot base of Misool is captured. Billiton's airfield is now size 4 so we'll move to ship those Engineers to Java where they will spread out of the airbases that we want to build up. Pacific Rennell Island is occupied in the Solomons. Empties headed home from Port Moreby are attacked by S-35 twice. once the sub misses, the other time it is spotted before attacking. China In China, the 40th Div holds out again against a DA (1:1) but it is very close as adj AV is 202 to 105. Three Chinese Corps are attacking now, with a Group Army HQ for support. Our casualties are pretty heavy so unless they are need to wait a day for supplies, we will probably get bounced tomorrow.

February 17th, 1942 A little livelier day today! India/Burma Outside of Rangoon, some Mabels take off to attack a small motor boat and thankfully some Oscar b's come with. 28x Oscars and 3x Mabels meet up with 10x H81-A3 and 11x Buffalos. We lose one Mabel, and knock down a Buffalo. At least one of the Mabels manages to hit the small target, sinking the little boat with a 250kg bomb. At Ceylon we get our first look at the troops in Colombo. The most of the troops were expected, although I didn't think the 6th Australian Div would be there. Even so, all the troops are 40 experience units so hopefully we can still carry the day. If it becomes a grind, we'll have 4 more division freed up in the coming weeks, and provided we can take the place before the heavy bombers become numerous we should still be okay. The enemy has some heavy guns - we bombard and end up taking nearly 1000 casualties. Ouch! The Brits, trying to catch our force split up, also launched a DA attack and that was much more favorable, with the Brits only getting 1:2 odds. Unadjusted AV is 1438 Allies versus 2458 for us. Casualties on that are about 2,000 for each side. I don't think we have to worry about getting kicked out, but capturing the base may not be quick. Some armor are en route to Jaffna, and hopefully they can take Trimcomalee and then join in at Colombo. Nearby we capture Merak which means the large 21st Ind Mixed Bde is free to join the fight at Batavia. At Sambas we bounce some Dutch units back into the jungle. Philippines We DA Clark today and get 1:1. We actually take pretty heavy casualties, so we'll need to rest a bit again. Pacific Today's free capture is west of New Britain - Umboi Island. The 83rd Nav Guard unit captures Milne Bay. A SNLF Coy also grabs Rossel Island. China Big news here is that we finally crush the pocket at Chuhsien. About 30k Chinese are killed or captured and more importantly, 5-6 IJA Divisions are free to head back to the front. That was probably the last 'easy' pocket to take. The fight will probably grind slow until we bring in some air power from Manchukuo. The enemy takes 3000 casualties on the retreat. Lots of resources in this base. It isn't all great news though, since as expected, the 40th gets kicked back to Hankow, although I'm not as worried at this point. Hankow has good forts, and with the force from Chusien headed back up there, I think the center is safe. At Sian, the Chinese launch a shock attack and get 1:7 odds. We lose 25 men, they lose 1,634. Not sure what the motivation was for that. Maybe just troops that John forgot to reroute. Submarines Outside of Sydney, I-4 puts a torpedo into PC Cahoone, sinking the small ship.

February 18th, 1942 India/Burma We try a sweep of Rangoon with some Oscar Cs today. 23x Oscars versus 8x H81-A3 and 7x Buffalo. We manage to take out 4 of each of the enemy planes and only lose one Oscar to ops damage. DEI Cape Gloucester is occupied today in the pre-combat phase, although we had just unloaded troops here. With Merak captured, our AMc's roll in to clear mines so we can travel the channel between Sumatra and Java without worry of hitting mines. At Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, the veteran surface group built around CL Nagara finds the AG Canopus at dock and easily sinks the ship. Nagara does well - 14cm hit from 20,000 yards and a torp hit at the same range. In the Flores chain, we today grab Maumere. China At Sian, we counterattack the two Corps that came across the river yesterday and easily bounce them back out of the base, enemy casualties number about 4500 to our 30. On the long road to Lanchow, our 12th and 13th Regiment continue to chase a couple Chinese corps ahead of them. Today a river crossing causes us to shock attack and we destroy one of the enemy units, while the other two retreat another hex west. At Liuchow, the Chinese attack and get a 1:2 against level 1 forts. No forts are dropped, but they have about 30,000 troops to our 14,000. I'm sure some more Chinese are on the way, so it is doubtful we will hold Liuchow for much longer. Thankfully, for now, enemy casualties were about twice our own (542:974). Submarines Outside of Darwin, I-159 finds xAKL Kanchow and proceeds to shell the ship repeatedly. Once low on ammo, I-159 submerged and left. Sinking of the enemy ship is likely, although not yet confirmed. At Bombay, I-121, there to lay mines, takes a shot at PC Haideri which was escorting several minelayers. We didn't hit, but I-121 was not found either.

February 19th, 1942 India/Burma Our escorts chase off SS truant and SS Salmon from Koggala today, so that we can continue our unloading of a Base Force. DEI A very convenient free capture today at Oosthaven. Now I can drop off units for Palembang without giving away any intel. Our minesweepers were already en route and move into today and clear mines from that base as well. After CL Nagara cleared the area around Christmas Island (IO) yesterday, today we unload the 16th Nav Guard and will secure the island base tomorrow. Near Ambon, Dutch sub KX hits our xAK Teikoku Maru. The transport will clear flooding at Ambon then head elsewhere for repairs. Pacific Buna goes to size 1 airfield, so we can put backup fighters here now if needed. China Southwest of Tienshui, were we are racing to isolate a large stack of Chinese, five Chinese Corps attack two of our divisions and are repulsed, 1:2, with heavy casualties. This is a good sign. We have more troops on the way, so I think we will be able to contain the Chinese there. That stack will have no supply source, so we should be able to keep them bottled up. The Chinese also attempt to counterattack at Lanchow. We have the 110th/A in the base, and the enemy have a BF, HQ and a single Chinese Corp. The attack gets 1:1, but casualties are to our benefit. I don't think we will get ejected here either. Submarines Busy day near Sydney today. I-4 puts a torpedo into xAK Rona. Then I-5 puts a few rounds into xAKL Canopus, enough to sink her. Later on, I-4 finds xAK Rona again and finishes her off with another torpedo. She will head on south to provide support for moves on Luganville and Noumea.

February 20th, 1942 India/Burma As often happens, as soon as we unload some troops on Great Nicobar, the base is free captured for us. Some Blenheim IV's attack the 56th Division at Cox's Bazaar but score no hits. DEI Seems like there are Dutch subs everywhere. KXIII misses one of our PB's near Balikpapan on two occasions. Northeast of Ambon, KXII puts a torp into xAK Yamakaze Maru. Our ship should amke it to port okay. Thankfully, one of our Sallies out of Ambon got a hit on the Dutch sub that hit our xAK yesterday. A dozen B-17's show up at Ambon as well, causing minor damage to the airfield there. Perhaps we will put our Tojos here. Near Ambon, the small dot island base of Kofiau is captured by our SNLF Coy. At Christmas Island, as our troops secured the base, a couple motor launches escaped. CL Nagara and company take care of them easily. The base is captured and a coastal minelayer is scuttled by the local troops before we can capture the ship. Near Singapore, we finally land some troops on Singkep Island. I expect we will capture the island tomorrow. Some troops are lost during the landing, but not enough to impact operations. Pacific Mine are cleared from Milne Bay. 10 B-17's show up over Port Moresby. We have some Oscar A's there (can't upgrade them because it is one of the Nick units), and the A's little guns don't do much. The pilots get some good training at least. We may bring some Navy fighters again. China The Chinese try again at Liuchow. 1:2 again and casaulties are 3:1 to our favor, but they have the men to burn here. They also try at Lanchow and only get 1:2. Thankfully, there are no reinforcements on the way to help the Chinese here.

February 21st, 1942 India/Burma Blenheim IV's (5x of them) hit the 5th Division at Cox's Bazar. At Colombo we try our first attack against the base. The news is sort of mixed. We drop forts to level 2, which is good, but we only get 1:2 odds (915:1211), and casualties are a first glance not favorable, but really, it isn't so bad. Out of 5500 casualties, we only have 33 squads destroyed, and 51 guns lost. The rest is just disabled. The enemy only has 1052 casualties, BUT they lose 53 squads and 140 vehicles destroyed! Plus one entire unit is destroyed. So maybe there is a path to victory by just slowly killing off their units while mine rotate through reserve to rebuild. We will see... quote: Japanese ground losses: 5600 casualties reported Squads: 27 destroyed, 550 disabled Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 19 disabled Engineers: 3 destroyed, 54 disabled Guns lost 51 (1 destroyed, 50 disabled) Allied ground losses: 1052 casualties reported Squads: 11 destroyed, 59 disabled Non Combat: 50 destroyed, 78 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 7 disabled Guns lost 52 (8 destroyed, 44 disabled) Vehicles lost 168 (140 destroyed, 28 disabled) Units destroyed 1 DEI East of Timor, the dot base Gorong is occupied. At Batavia we attack with the 21st Mix Brigade in attendance and get 1:1 odds (410:397) and take forts to zero. Casualties are good - just a matter of time on this one. Near Singapore, at Singkep, we capture the base and the 663 man Riouw Battalion surrenders. The Flores cleanup continues as we capture Endeh today. Pacific Some Catalinas from the Luganville area drop some bombs on Tulagi but don't hit anything. 8x B-17's hit Port Moresby for light damage. A small SNLF Coy captures Tagula Island south of Tulagi/Guadalcanal. To make sure the Aussies don't have a safe port of escape, we send a SNLF unit to Terapo and capture the empty base. Hopefully lack of supply and jungle effects will allow a small base to hold this against the army that got bounced out of Port Moresby. China Liuchow forts are up to level 2. Maybe this will help us hold on a bit longer.

Had a good weekend playing the old board game "Victory in the Pacific" against my son. The joy of counters and dice. February 22st, 1942 DEI Near Tawi Tawi, the O24 manages to hit one of our Tankers with a torpedo. Thankfully the tanker was empty so no raging fires start up. The tanker should be able to make it back to port for repairs. We launch another DA on Batavia, getting 1:2 odds today. Casualties are decent though, so we'll rest up a bit again. We'll also start bombing the place with Nells to ensure no forts get rebuilt. Pacific A small base on the north side of New Britain is occupied for free today - Talasea. We unload some troops at Horn Island today and in the process, one of our xAKs takes some damage from running aground. A few troops are lost in the unloading process, but they storm ashore in good order and easily capture the base from the two garrison units. 1,100 enemy troops are captured or killed. In the north, the 12th and 13th continue to chase a pair of Chinese Corps west. Other Seven destroyers are put back in service at various bases - now equipped with the preferrable Mod-2 deptch charges.

February 23rd, 1942 India/Burma Our four big carriers linger southeast of Koggala and do a ground bombing run on a small enemy unit in the center of Ceylon to keep the unit from moving into Colombo. If we can keep the unit there we might be able to get an attack in and move it away from Colombo. We get a scary moment as SS Salmon launches torpedoes at Zuikaku. Thankfully they dud! Salmon later tries again on a DD but misses. In the area, we get a report of a Val bomb hit on a "Narwal class sub". At Colombo the Allies shell us, and we do okay trading even casualties with the Commonwealth. Forts at Cox's Bazar reach level 2. DEI After landing troops yesterday we 'capture' Donggala before the combat phase. I believe that is the last base, dot or otherwise, on Celebes that was still Allied. SS Tarpon hits one of our xAKs damaging a couple squads. The ship should make it to port. I'm glad it was this torpedo that worked and not the one against Zuikaku! At Padang, our paratroopers and some tanks try an attack but only get 1:3 odds. However, we only have one squad disabled, while they lose 35 squads! So I think the present small force can take it, we'll just have to grind them down with a few attacks. Philippines Continued artillery bombardments here. We do about 200-400 casualties a day to the enemy stack. Also, Legaspi goes to AF level 3 today. Pacific B-17E's hit Port Moresby, but today we have some Zeros helping the Oscar A's. We manage to get one damaged enough that it is written off. We capture Merauke today. Below is a view of PNG. They lose a couple, we lose 1. After the AVG is chased off, our bombers come in and get some good shots in on the enemy troops there. Good timing as the enemy there launches a DA which only gets 1:2 odds against our level 2 forts. With more IJA divisions on the way I think we have taken this stack out of action for a while. Onwards to Kienko! The Chinese also try to repel us at Lanchow. Although they get 1:1 odds, I'm not worried about this base as reinforcements are on the way. Other Two more destroyers finish their refits at Osaka. Also we adjust Shoho's groups to 20 fighters and 10 torpedo bombers to better fit the plane and match the torpedo ordinance available. On these smaller carriers, I try to arrange it so we have at least two full strikes of TBs that will carry torpedos.

February 24th, 1942 DEI Near Dili, the dot base of Wetar is occupied. Elements of the 81st Nav Guard also grab the base west of Koepang called Roti. Near Sabang sub O20 gets past the escorts and hits an empty xAK returning from Ceylon. The ship should make it to Singapore for repairs. Another DA at Batavia does well on casualties but only gets 1:2 odds. Adjusted AV is close though - 252:309. Same thing at Padang - 1:1 odds, but casualties there are even better around 1:5 ratio. Pacific At Deboyne Islands, xAKL Shoyu Maru hits some underwater rocks. Apparently they were big ones, as the ship sinks! On New Guinea, the last Allied base is captured as we take Wau and for the surrender of B, C and D Coy/NG Rifles. Both Munda and Tabiteuea get function airfields up and running today (sz 1). x14 B-17's hit Port Moresby today, but 20 Zeros and the Oscar A's bring a couple down, damaging several. China The Chinese attack again outside of Tienshui getting 1:2 odds. Still not worried here. Chinese also attack Lanchow, getting 1:3 there. Another part of the 110th Div entered the hex as the attack launched so good timing there. Doubt the Chinese will try another attack now that the extra unit arrived. Submarines Near Brisbane, I-169 gets a glancing blow from an enemy AM. Damage isn't threatening, but the sub will head to Rabaul for repairs. Other Two more DD's reenter service from upgrades.

February 25th, 1942 India/Burma We unload three tank units at Jaffna. Perhaps these will be enough to take Trincomalee - that would be nice, but if not, we can at least ensure that no supply is crossing the island between the two British bases. Carrier air bombs the small 6/15th Punjab Battalion east of Colombo and meets some leaking Hurricane CAP. 2x IIa, and 4x IIb - our Zeros take down 5 of the enemy planes although we do lose a Zero. We get 1:1, and drop forts to one. Lots of vehicles destroyed, although in men casualties favored the Brits. Looking at the combat replays carefully we are able to determine that our attack back on the 21st destroyed the 16th Light Cavalry Regiment. Today we destroy the 251st Recon Bn. Also, by the end of the combat, Colombo fort has dropped to 0 AV (from 30 on the 17th), the 100th Indian Bge has dropped to 42 (from 100 on the 17th), the 48th Gurkha has dropped to 53 (from 124 on the 17th). The 53rd and 54th British bges have dropped from 140 to 100 and the 55th Brit Bge has dropped to 0 from 142. I think this shows some promise. While our units are getting beat up, they seem to be recovering pretty fast. Hopefully faster than the the enemy units. We fly a sweep of Rangoon with two separate groups of 36 Oscars and hit 21 H81-A3 and 10 Buffalos. Our Oscars do well and take down several enemy planes while only losing three of their own. Losses for the day are 3 Oscars vs 9 H81 and 6 Buffalos. DEI Out in the Indian Ocean, at Cocos Island, CL Nagara and blasts 3 small minesweepers ahead of our landing force approaching. Since the island is an atoll, our troops come ashore and capture the base immediately. On the island of Moluccas we secure the base of Lolobato. Pacific Near Munda, the dot island of Vangunu is occupied. B-17's continue to hit Port Moresby. Today we lose an A6M2 and a Oscar A model, but take down six(!) more B-17's. Not sure I have seen this message before, "Sugio, S. in a A6M2 Zero makes head on attack ... forces B-17E Fortress out of formation". We capture Deboyne Island southeast of Milne Bay. China Ankang was only showing one unit, so hoping it was a base force or something, I have two Armored Car units attack there. Nope - it is the 56th Chinese Corp of about 7,000 troops. I get 1:12 odds. I have two real tank regiments on the way, maybe they will fair better.

February 26th, 1942 India/Burma One of our Vals scores a hit on an enemy submarine near Ceylon. Also, our destroyers get a DC hit on O16. Our tanks capture Jaffna with ease (122:1) from the 1/2 Ceylon Base Force. The unit is destroyed and our tanks will head on down the road. From Koepang we launch a port attack on Broome today with 20 Bettys and 15 Zero escorts. We get through CAP, although a couple Zeros go down. The Bettys manage to hit two AVD's with bombs. Time for another DA at Batavia. Again, we only get 1:2 odds, but good casualties. On Sumatra, our paratroops and armor manage to capture Padang with a 2:1 attack. The armor will follow the enemy units, while our paratroops head home for transport to Bangkok so they are ready when operations against Burma commence. Philippines It has been mostly artillery shelling here, but today we launch a DA on Clark Field. All aircraft in the area fly ground attack missions in support of the push and it finally does the trick. We capture Clark field with a 2:1 assault. February 27th, 1942 India/Burma At Koggala, SS KIX takes a shot at an xAK but misses. At Tavoy, 9 Belheim I's come by with no escort. We have Oscar C models on CAP there, and we take out five of the Blenheims. Rahaeng goes to AF size 3. DEI We try a sweep of Broome today and our Zeros kill 4 P-40E while losing 1. Today the B-17's visit Ambon. Thankfully we had our 8 Tojos on station and they take down three of the big bombers. Wish we started the war with more than 9 of these planes! February 28th, 1942 India/Burma We sweep Rangoon today and find no enemy fighters. We will probably leave the sweeps up just to make sure that situation doesn't change. The C element of the 56th Division reaches Akyab and secures the empty base. DEI Off the coast of Northern Borneo, Tawi Tawi is occupied just before it would have been attacked by one of our small units. Pacific Escorts chase away a SS Cachalot near Port Moresby. SS-23 fires at a PB near Milne Bay, but it misses. China Our first wave crosses the river into Kienko and gets established. Unfortunately it looks like there is a bit too much for us to take the base, but we did get a fair amount of artillery here and set up so we can shell Chinese troops for a while. I have more troops on the way, but I suspect John will be able to reinforce before my troops can get here. He certainly has to keep a bunch of troops back here because if this front broke open, the Chungking valley would be toast. The level 2 forts prevent the base from falling, but I see the writing on the wall. Submarines Near Brisbane, I-171 takes a shot at a big tanker but misses. Other Overall a pretty quiet end to the month of February. IJA flight instructors accelerate 4 pilots - wow - hold the presses! I've been reading Overt's late war AAR and will soon do a thorough balancing of local sources of oil/fuel/resources with the HI present in those areas, expanding HI as needed. In the home islands, I may expand some LI since in the late war, if you don't have fuel in the Home Islands, HI won't run, but LI will. Supplies are the thing that will be tight. With no refinery supply in this scenario, it will be even more so. I am going to stop forts on all bases that are not going to be defended among other actions. Forts can suck up a lot of supplies if you are building them at 100's of bases. As soon as I have finished expanding, the focus from then on will be getting as much supply back to the Home Islands as possible. I will hopefully have some monthly stats posted in another day or two.

The debate about whether to expand LI is interesting in DBB-C. Given that every factory built takes 1000 days to pay for itself. In your case, if you build a factory on 2/28/42, said factory will not start to make a profit until sometime in Dec of 44. During those 1000 days it does have to be fed by resources however and with easy to harvest areas being close to equal in terms of input/use, resources to feed new production may have to come from places like Kendari, Palembang, etc. For me, when I think about that aspect, I always consider how long the further away conquests will remain producing for me. I started a DBB-C and am on turn 2 so am watching yours closely. [8D]

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Overt's AAR. Lots of Supply/HI/LI talk going on there. Glad to have you on board! I am up to early April in the game and I can tell you the next 5 weeks of game time are pretty interesting! Also - wanted to say that I agree with you on thinking through the payback. I believe HI repays itself in 550 days, rather than 1100, which is another reason I think HI should only be expanded outside of the Home Islands. LI, on the other hand, if things go well, could be happily producing supply into 1946 if I can live that long - even if totally cut off.

Sounds like a good idea. I work near 2nd and Sheridan. A few years ago one of the locals, and there seem to be quite a few in NE CO, tried to organize a gathering and I was unable to attend. Not sure if it even happened.

February Summary Things continue to cruise along, with some not unexpected speed bumps. We can't expect the Allies to just let us do whatever we like after all. We continue to maintain a good pace of base captures as we seized 86 more bases in the month, compared with 85 captured in January. The highlights of the month were the capture of Port Moresby, the capture of Clark Airfield and the successful landing on Ceylon. Although Colombo is a little tougher than expected, at least our divisions did not all get sunk out in the Bay of Bengal. With Port Moresby captured, we are free to move on to Luganville and then Noumea and perhaps Suva. The naval war has been a bit quieter, although we did manage to catch a couple British cruisers on the north coast of Australia. We also lost our first capital ship, although thankfully it was only the 18kt light cruiser Kashima. Naval support is in place at Georgetown and the west coast of Thailand has plenty of planes to keep the ocean clear for now. We continue to wrap up the DEI with small SNLF coys. Soon we will secure Batavia and then Palembang after that will be the last major base in that theater. While there is still a lot of enemy troops at Bataan, their condition is deteriorating rapidly so I do not expect much more resistance there. We already have numerous convoys traveling the DEI and Pacific to haul resources, oil and fuel back to the Home Islands. Lots of small ships are in use around the Home Islands to bring in those resources in our own backyard as well. In China, we have cut off or captured some very large pockets of Chinese troops. We have managed to reach Kienko, but it is unlikely that will be a quick capture. All the same, the Chinese will be forced to hold back a lot of troops to ensure Kienko does not fall. Additionally, we have only been using a slight bit of air power in the Chinese theater. Soon the last LCU that was planned for the South Pacific will be bought out and PPs will go to a few armor units, some air support and then finally the Manchukuo air force will start to be bought out and brought to bear on China - mostly via bombing enemy troops massed at Kienko. Beyond March, and the goals mentioned above, the only open objectives are to secure northern Australia and Burma. We will begin a small incursion into Burma in early April, depending on how long Ceylon takes. We already have Akyab and Cox's bazaar secured, so that will help. Northern Australia will probably be a summertime operation. March 1st, 1942 No free base today! I have gotten so accustomed to them that I was surprised by the absence today. India/Burma At Koggala, three waves of 16, then 11, then 16 Hurricane IIbs fly a sweep at 36,000 feet. Our Oscars do okay, trading about 1:1. Thankfully our pilots seem to be all recovered. Hopefully we captured some downed British pilots also. At Colombo we try another deliberate attack and get 1:2 odds, but drop forts to level 1 (again). Casualties are in our favor in terms of kills vs disables and also the enemy loses 66 guns and 38 vehicles to our 21 guns and 0 vehicles. Overall however, casualties are 5300 for us and 2800 for them. DEI Some lonely torpedo boats at Waingapoe attack the couple ships we have hauling around a small NG portion for capturing the bases in the Flores chain. The TM's sneak in close in the dark and manage to sink two smaller xAKs. Thankfully our Destroyer present doesn't take a hit. One xAKL survived with portions of the NG unit onboard, so it will unload nearby and let the unit rebuild. We won't have to spend PPs to buy it back. CL Nagara will head over soon to root out these torpedo boats. Philippines Lily's from Takao hit SS Permit twice. Their ASW skills are getting up there. Soon I'll have enough Sallys to switch this unit to the Sallys with their bigger bombs. Pacific Near Makin, SS Dolphin hits an xAK loaded with some troops heading to Tabitaue. The ship is pretty damaged, not sure if it will make it home. Near Rabaul, we fly some bombing missions on the remains of the Lark battalion at Gasmata. We have landed a small unit there as well, so we will attack soon. China Liuchows forts go up to level 1 and just in time too as the Chinese attack again. They get 1:1 odds and drop forts back to zero. They lose more men than us, but given that we are outnumbered 40,000 to 13,000 in troops, I don't think an extra 200 casualties is going to matter much. Just Northwest of Hankow, the first elements of our troops coming from Chusien push back the Chinese that were threatening our railroad. We get 2 to 1 odds and the Chinese retreat toward Ichang. With luck, the surge of 5 divisions will be enough to recapture Ichang and then move on to flank Changsa. In the north, our reformed 110th Division attacks at Lanchow. Results are 1:1 (282:197) and forts are dropped to level 1. This should fall soon. Other Not surprisingly, we receive an intelligence update that Enterprise did not sink and is still in operation. A whole slew of ships begin upgrades. The SC's are all getting Mod-2 Type 95 DC launchers so that will be helpful. March 2nd, 1942 Quiet day. India/Burma The Hurricanes continue their sweeps of Koggala, although only one sweep flys over today. Both sides lose a plane. In the center of Ceylon, our three tank regiments shock attack Dambulla and take the base on the first go. 3:1 odds against level 2 forts. The 99th Indian Bge and 1/1 Ceylon Base Force retreat to Trincomalee. DEI East of Borneo, the small base of Tapul is occupied. Pacific Near Emirau Island, SS Trout hits one of our xAK ships with a dud torpedo. On the southern end of the island east of Rabaul, we attack the base of Namatanai. There is still a small enemy unit here, the 2/1st Ind Coy, but we easily capture the base and capture the unit. China We try another DA at Lanchow today, but only get 1:2 odds. In the north, our chasing of a pair of Chinese units continues as we get closer to Ningsia. Today one of the enemy units is destroyed just leaving one tiny Chinese Corp to impede our progress. The Chinese try bombarding us at Kienko, but our artillery does better inflicting three times as many casualties as theirs. Liuchow finally is lost as the Chinese shock attack the base. Level 1 forts weren't enough as the Chinese get 5:1 odds. The 104th Division and 23rd Army HQ will head to Nanning and see if they can hold with the help of the SNLF unit already in place at that base. March 3rd, 1942 India/Burma As a small troop convoy carrying an assault HQ nears Koggala, it is attacked by SS KIX. Thankfully the sub misses. Hurricanes sweep Koggala and a few Zeros from the nearby Car Div 1 join in. We lose 7 Oscars and down 4 Hurricanes. Our carriers are there to cover the HQ unit being delivered to Koggala. DEI Near Celebes, we capture the small island of Sangi. On the other side of Sumatra, the 16th Naval Guard which has landed yesterday from Christmas Island, captures Benkoelen. Pacific In the Solomons, near Munda, the dot base of Panggoe is occupied. I finally attack at Gasmata and the Lark Battalion retreats into the jungle. I thought we had captured all the base on New Britain, but now I see there is one I missed. Ah well, another refugee unit to track down. China Since the counter bombardment when well at Kienko yesterday, we try our own bombardment today and it does fine. We lose 9 men, they lose 45. The Chinese bombardment doesn't hurt any of our guys, but they lose 18 more men. Submarines I-171 fires at a PG near Brisband but misses. Other One of our conversion projects finishes up as the first of two AKV's - AKV Tokiwa Maru - is finished and parked at Nagasaki for future use. The Nakajima Ha-45 advances a month, and two more destroyers go into refit.
