shane56 -> actual game play outcomes versus historical outcomes (8/21/2011 10:06:42 AM)

As I have mentioned in another thread I am developing my own GC and one of the reasons for doing this is to recognise and accept the fact that we will all play this game differently with different strategies, but rarely will it be the same as it was played out historically, as we know that failed and why would you want to play the game with a known failed strategy.

So I have cranked up the editor and retained all those divisions/units that were historically lost at stalingrad as in now way will I play a strategy resulting in a stalingrad debacle. This is one of the faults with the OB in that we are required to loose units (ie they are mandatorily withdrawn) based on a historical outcome (stalingrad) when we might never launch an attack out to stalingrad based on what ever strategy we are employing at the time. This is not right...

The only time units should be withdrawn are those that were historically removed to go to the west or italian fronts.
I am also amazed at how many units are missing from the OB which I have researched and have now added them in.
I have also added in all the german units in the northern balkans, the ost troops, and am in the process of adding in the bulgarians and croatians.

My view is that the OB's should be redone to cutout the mandatory withdrawl of units based on historical outcomes as we will all play this game much differently to history, and to have units mandatorily withdrawn based on a historically lost battle that we will never end up fighting is again not right...

Thanks ..shane

I don't think Army or Corps HQ should be withdrawn unless you want them to be withdrawn.
Division units I understand being withdrawing

When you are finished, you should make it available to be downloaded in the Scenario section. I would like to see how the differences play out.

Units destroyed historically are not removed from the game unless they were transferred to another theater. It just so happens that many of the divisions destroyed at Stalingrad were rebuilt and deployed to Italy in the summer of 43. If the division was destroyed at Stalingrad and it returns to the Eastern Front, it never withdraws in the game. If you find a unit that was destroyed historically and removed from the game, let me know and I will fix it.

Interesting.
The point raised about all the Ost troops not being included has been on my mind as well. We're not talking about Hiwi's which will be added in the enxt patch(es). But lot's of Cav regiments, brigades, battalions which are so useful in OCS seem never to appear.

Is this a concious design decision?

Oh, could you please cite an example of what units are missing from the Eastern Front? In the game the Eastern Front DOES NOT include Yugoslavia, Greece or Bulgaria.
