Arigoth -> Pilot training color (8/31/2011 12:55:54 AM)

What do the different colors mean in pilot training (green, yellow, orange)?

what do you mean? - like "replacement", "reserve" and "tracom" ?

zzodr -> RE: Pilot training color (8/31/2011 4:06:12 AM)

Green means they increased their experience the previous day.
Orange means the increased that month.
Not sure what you mean by yellow - not at my PC at the moment.

Example:
If you lookup who shot down a plane in your Ops report for the previous day, goto their sqn and their exp will usually show in green.

If the pilots name is yellow, it means he can be transferred to training command, zzodr is correct on the others.

Cavalry Corp -> RE: Pilot training color (8/31/2011 4:46:36 PM)

How many pilots are needed in the training command ?

I would have thought each one could help about 10 but I have no idea, so who does?

there should be at least a few pointers in the new super manual I hope

No, not really. You won't find much useful in the manual re: TRACOM. Have you tried a forum search on the subject of TRACOM? This has come up several times.

If you can't get the information from previous discussions, PM me and I'll be happy to share my opinions.

from gleaning the forum:
pilots in TRACOM will give a small EXP gain to pilots 'graduating' from the 12-month replacement pipeline & will 'accelerate' some to graduate early. To get this benefit, 81+ EXP pilots must stay in TRACOM in groups of 10 per nationality & branch of service. If there are 19 USMC, 1 USN & 5 RNZAF pilots in TRACOM, that's the same as having only 10 USMC pilots present.

IMO, this training effect will measurably benefit your air forces only if you commit a high %age of your 81+ pilots to TRACOM over a long period of time (years not months), during which time they're not available for combat. So it's an option for a GC game, where you keep the 81+ guys safe until the last year. Otherwise, TRACOM is just a 'reserve pool' for them, a way-station for transfer between groups.

A fair summary, to be sure, jmalter.

WRT the iterations of ten rule, I'm not so sure. My erstwhile opponent (April 1943, PBEM, Scenario 1) has indicated that he's getting Soviet and Chinese pilots advanced due to TRACOM when, in fact, he has exactly zero such dedicated TRACOM pilots for these respective national services.

I'd say that there is probably a 'more = more' solution. The more TRACOM pilots you put into it, the more they will help you develop or 'pull forward' rookie pilots through the training system calendar. The exact formula is in dispute and (based on The Elf's previous posts on the matter) unlikely to be revealed.

I think that the colours look very pretty late at night... if that means anything to anyone.
