26th Jan KB around Christmas IO MKB unknown Pburg DMS is sweeping the mines here. I see 2 more ships heading to Pburg. I am sending in some low lv Nav bombers to attack them. It will take a few days to get any DD's to the area. Pago Pago He has moved his subs into PP's hex. I have 3 DD's moveing here for ASW. 4 AM's are heading here for ASW purposes. Rangoon 3 Hurri, 1 AVG (11 planes), 1 Buff (5 planes) are present in Rangoon. They are on CAP today. He has been sweeping with at most 12 Zeros. I hope to take some of them down tomorrow. Not much is going on, besides moving stuff around the Pacific AO. P40s are heading to DEI. I have decided to move them here for a short time. Hes not escorting some of his strikes, I don't have enough fighters to guard all my bases. Just me thinking out loud. I haven't read an AAR that the allied opponent went thru DEI. I am thinking of going that way. I know it would be bloody, but its different. But I still don't know which way I will move. I think its still early he hasnt really moved into the Pacific or Burma.

27th Jan KB Indian Ocean MKB unknown Pburg DMS's are all over this hex. 3 of them got banged up by my CD guns. I believe the invasion is coming soon. Medan Japs have landed. China Chengchow is be evac'd. He is trying to surround it. I am pulling out the troops that were stationed there. I am not happy with this development. His subs are starting to become more active. 3 ships in 2 days. I did sink a SC today with a Dutch sub. More later.

As I wait for my next turn. China I have noticed that units in combat mode with eng in wooded hexs do build forts. I will use that info. Chinese units build forts quick in wooded terrain. I will pull my units back from Chengchow to Sian and other bases in the area froming a layered defense. I will set up my defensies up 2 or so hex's out from my bases along the roads. I also want to be able to have a reserve for the area. To me he seems to be a little timid and slow moving. I have a good defensive line from Chengsha to Nanking. I need to make some small changes in the following days. But I think I am pretty solid. I will stop most bases from building forts over 4, so I don't loose to much supply. Open hex bases will build over lv 4. I'm not planning on building many AFs up. China won't have much of an AF. If it dose get one, I can start to build them then. The air war is what I am worried about. Maybe once I get my Chinese guys trained and some better AC. Burma I just saw intel that he is prepping units for Rangoon. At this moment, I can't contest his sweeps, and his ground bombings are destroying my units. So I will try an pull them out of the open areas. I need some units in the hex above Rangoon to keep him from flanking me. Like I said before, I will do a fighting withdraw. This is when I will turn the ground bombings againist him. There has not been any new LCU's sent into Burma they are taking positions in India. I am sending in supply's. I am trying to get some stocked at most of the bases up north. DEI Its lost. So LCUs will fight and die. I will try and get out the Av Supp units and some air sqds. I am hopeing that Pburg will fight awhile. I have almost 500 AV here now with forts 2 at 78%. I am sending in my sub minelayers to plant some more seeds of destruction in his path. I move my B17 group to make a nite port attack on Singers today. I hope they come thru for me. Not much I can do in this area. I am waiting on the Dutch to get there modern fighters. The P40E's are being divereted away from DEI for now. More on them later. SoPac I saw a 2 ship TF moveing above Suva, I have dispatched a CVTF to intercept them. They are the closest combat TF I have. He moved his subs into Pago Pago shallow water hex, tomorrow my DDs will be onstation performing ASW.

Hello Joe Guess! You will get fighters to help in Burma soon. I actually was waiting so hard for them I had transports standing by early. If memory serves the group assigned to the RAF HQ on Ceylon enters with trained pilots in the fifties and train up fast. Although I am getting my butt handed to me. 28th Jan KB Not for sure somewhere around the IO DEI MKB unknown PI More unescorted bombing raids. The reason I say this is that I have a P40E sqd that can make Bataan and then fly back when I'm done with them. That is my thought. My hope is if i send them they will bag some bombers, then fly what I can back and slowly recover the rest. China I have only one hex open for retreat from Chengchow now. He is sweeping hex's now looking for my fighters. Pburg He is still sweeping my mines, but I see a TF being built at Singers. My bombers didn't fly at Singers. Medang falls SoPac The TF was just out of my CVTFs range. It looks like it is heading towards Pago Pago. Thats fine I have some AC there that will go out and greet him. Can I say that I love 2 turns a day.

I think I found the answer. PG Charleston, PC Taney, and AM Chevreul. I am thinking of pushing these guys up north and raid some TFs in the Kurlies. Then again I am not seeing any search planes in the northern Gilberts. I have went down into the area twice and not been spotted.

Ok guys I'm a little worried about sending my P40s to Bataan. I am almost 100% sure they will encounter unescorted bommbers. I'm worried I won't being able to get them out. Koniu will not like what happens tomorrow. What I believe is going to happen after this ambush. He will pull back some fighters to PI. This is good. He will slow down his raids and make sure hes sweeping or escorting his raids. All of this will give me time to move more AC to all AO's. Turn is sent lets see what happens.

Ok my days are messed up 28th Jan KB Indian Ocean off of Java MKB unknown Bataan The ambush worked, and I got them out so far. One more day to get them back to real safety. So the results drum roll please.[:D] 12 Bettys, 11 Sallys, and 11 Nells[&o]. Koniu sent me a seperate email congradulating me about this ambush. Stated that he learned a new trick. [:-] Rangoon He swept today with Zeros and Oscars. The tally over Rangoon. 7 Zeros, 1 Oscar. We lost 8 Hurri's, 4 Buffs, 4 AVG. Not a good show but its getting better. DEI The LYB's cleared my minefield at Pburg. 5 of them are sailing away with holes in the boats. We lost 2 Buff's and 2 B339s here also. A Dutch sub put a TT into an AV. Pago Pago 6 subs are patroling here. More later

Nice ambush Mr. Guess! I can't say I have staged one yet. While I only have one live ace I do have a squadron on englishmen with 16-17 kills, mostly Oscars and Zeros in Malaya. He has not dared to raid or sweep Mandalay for over a week.

29th Jan KB Indian Ocean off Java MKB unknown Pburg Waiting for the invasion. 3 TFs moving towards Pburg. DEI Soborjea (sp) He sent his Zero's to sweep and slaughtered me. 13 B339s, 17 Buffs, 6 Hawks, 5 Demons to 7 Zeros. 2 P40E sqds are now here and will assist in CAP tomorrow. I figure he will launch a strike tomorrow. He stated in an email that he will sink a ship for every AC I shoot down. Well he has to make up for Burma and Bataan. China Air ambush here didn't go as planned he swept with Oscars before his strikes came in. 6 P40B's, 2 AVG planes lost to 6 Oscars. I don't like these loses but right now I can't do much about it. I am now starting to stand and fight. Below are some screenies of my Pilot training. First one is a sqd list they were on Gen training 100% 0 range 1 pilot per plane

Not the most efficient pilot training curriculum.[:)] For fighter pilots the two indispensable skills are air and defence. The most efficient curriculum to study for those two skills are: 1. air - train on escort, 100%. Altitude is technically irrelevant but I put them on 20k as an aide memoire to the skill being trained. 2. def - train on sweep, 100% at 100 feet altitude. Your reserve pool screen shows most of your pilots are well short of 70 defence skill. They could do with advance sweep training at 100 feet. Do not underestimate the value of a good defence skill. Alfred again thanks. I have changed my training programs. Zulu Your getting my thread awfully sticky[8\|] 30th Jan KB west of Bativa MKB unknown PI Now I am sure he is not going to attack here. I might do a bombardment to see what forces he has left. I am thinking of starting small sub replenishment missions to here. DEI Pburg invaded. He got passed my subs. He took 1,650 casualities on the landings. I am happy with that. He has his ships LRCAPed. I am going to try some nite bombing. I may hit his landing forces or the KB. Christmas Island Not happy here. Lost 2 big tankers to a sub. An xAK ate a TT also. I had a 4 DD ASW TF here on patrol.[:@] China He is letting me leave Chengchow. I don't understand this. I would of attacked a day or so after I saw the movement arrows. By the way I am leaving a rear guard behind, they can suck up the attack if one happens. Burma A big 27 Zero raid misses my fighters. Happy for that. Wake Has an extra CD unit now. An Inf Bn is a day out. Adak Has an IR, Nav BF, SVC Det and more on the way. 1 Fort, 1 Port, 50% to 1 AF. An AVD is stationed here with 6 cats. An AS is on its way along with and AO to drop off some fuel. I am changing subs home base to here for longer patrol time. A change I just made was putting 2 CVs in a TF. I don't usually do that or atleast in my AI games. I'm going to see if I have any transports with legs long enough to go from Port Stanley to Auchland. I don't know but its worth a shot. I could transport supplies and fuel from the WC or Merry Ol England to here and then out. How many people use this port? If I was the Japs I'd have subs or raiders in the wormhole areas. Forming plans for mid or late 42 offensive. Since I don't know where he will go and where I will stop him. I am forming plans for all areas. More on those later.

The P38s will be heading to the DEIs. Alfred said they perform better on sweep missions. When Pburg falls I want to keep that AF closed. So Sweeping it with the P38s will help before the bombers go in. Also might be able to sweep over some of his LCUs moving in open terrain. Turn around is fair play here. I can pull in over 100 American first gen fighters. Soon the Dutch get theres. I have a chance then to stall his advance in this area. He needs this area. I think and I may be wrong. If I can stall him here he will focus on this area and not do much in others. I want to make him send his fighters at exteneded ranges over my bases. With the first gen fighters in the area, I think I can get a better A2A ratio. more later need tolook at honeymoon destinations. Got any good ideas guys.

My eyes are burning. No turn today. I am sad really I am. I look forward to it everyday. Am I a loser or and Addict? So I have 3 transport sqds in Java. When Pburg falls I will start to fly out what is left of the LCU's there. I want to send my CL TFs back into the area but I know they will be attacked from the air. I've lost enough ships here already. One thing I did see is that the P38s can't use drop tanks. I was hopeing they would have a higher max range the the P40E's. I have a bunch of B17s (D,E) in the area. I am thinking of launching a large bombing raid againist Singers. Maybe I can shut down the AF. I just checked, I have 80 4E bombers I can bring to bear. HMMM think I can do some damage with all these guys. I need my DL to be higher before I launch the attack. I have a bunch of 2E Brit bombers in the area that can take care of the troops on Pburg, if I can shut down Singers AF. Big E will be out of the yard in 11 days.

I noticed that to about the P38s, I have to read about the Adm Y ambush again, I thought they chose P38s because of the range. Joe, I am in full move to the rear. I have to regroup. Watch your ass ets better than I did. I d like to see the Sumatra Java map situation.

The Lightning does indeed get drop tanks. There are however two conditions which must be met before any plane model can use drop tanks. (a) the airfield must have 2x supplies needed (b) drop tanks become available on the historical timeline they became available for that model. Hence you can seen the introduction into service of a plane model ahead of when drop tanks became available for that model 2. Don't assume that when Palembang falls, the Allied units will remain in the hex. The almost certain outcome will be that the Allied units will be forced to retreat out of the base. If that occurs, your three air transport squadrons on Java will not be able to rescue the men. Aircraft can only pick up troops (NB no heavy equipment can be picked up by air) if; (a) the transport plane is picking up troops from an airfield, level 1 will suffice, or (b) it is a patrol plane (Catalina, PBY) and the troops are on the coast 3. The only way you are going to get your DL of Singapore up is by flying air recon over Singapore. With 80 4Es you don't have to wait to get the DL up, particularly as you probably have no highly skilled pilots in recon and thus you may struggle to get a high DL anyway. Alfred
