ORIGINAL: PaxMondo Yeah, but you got us to actually think about it. I went and built up a sheet to calc everything to be sure. [:D] Pax - Very much spot on. I have read (and continue to study) the manual. After doing some intense forum reading on how R & D works, I was fired up and just plain forgot to check the facts before commenting - or perhaps Alien Mind Control; am not yet sure which... Gents - it really doesn't matter - not at all. AE is so very deep, intricate and detailed on a scale far beyond what one ever expects, that it can take years of intense play to even feel like one has at least a basic grasp of the technicalities and the practical "how to do it". It seems to me, after studying several AAR's, that one could play five campaign games in a row, with new strategies, results and adventures occurring in each one - there is always something new, not to mention a number of very different but well designed Mods. And, of course, there is always Andy Mac and Michael who periodically work their magic... Mike - I was going to PM you, but shall say it here: It is important to me that you know how much I have learned from your last AAR, generous advice, numerous postings and, most recently, the "AK" and Escort discussion threads. The AK discussion in particular finally brought my understanding to a point where I felt I had a solid grasp of the math and the concepts involved. I am off this week for fall break, so I set up a Babes game solitaire H2H - just to learn. Over the past year, much of what I have gleaned has been placed on a spread sheet - (Mike got me started on spread sheets over a year ago), and I spent the first half of the week editing the game - moving the right class and number of ships to each resource start port, placing the correct hulls in a specific shipyard hex to cover my planned conversions - and much more. All in accordance with my version of the "Mike Solli Convoy your way to Victory Plan" <grin>. The intent was not only to have the resource and conversion hulls start out in the appropriate port (cause it is a nuisance and time consuming to round them up in game); but to take all that collated information and put it to practical good effect in game. I also listed all the LCU's - first by starting location and targets - then by Divisional grouping, assigned to the 14th, 15th, 16th and 25th Armies. Not only did I have a more coherent grasp of how all the units were grouped and interconnected (OK - I will amend this to "as coherent as the Three Megs of Ram between my ears will allow"...); but my appreciation for the editor (and it's designers!) has grown enormously. Sometimes, after hours of editing, I would think "gosh - I could be playing right now"; and ask myself "is it all this reading, studying and editing worth it?" The answer of course is Yes! What is really humbling, is the knowledge that many of the forum posters have done much more, much more; the modders most of all - what I have done seems to be small potatoes. As has been been pointed out numerous times before, AE will reward good play. Part of good play is knowing the rules, understanding the concepts and being organized. The other half is sheer experience from hours of play (am not there yet, but working on it). Some of what happens in game can be affected by the players knowledge, decisions and intelligent employment of his forces; much of takes place is beyond the player's control. I am comfortable with this; and shall focus on the former. So - keep on posting your ideas, gents; I and others need to hear your take on any given issue. The posters on this forum are what has kept me hooked on AE, even when I had not a clue (I mean more than usual!) as to how the game worked. Well - got carried away as usual. Nothing new there... Mac
