7 May 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ subs: Skipjack misses our resource CS convoy heading to Truk from Ocean island. These little ships do well here and mean that each time a bigger convoy comes down with troops it can stop by in Truk and load resources for the home journey. I still have only lost one ship to subs in the area, so a good trade so far. So Pac: The full strike package of the KB launched today toward Sydney and Newcastle. A number of ships are in a bad way. CL Trenton and SS-38 are sunk as are 6 xAKL. The KB will make its way NE back toward Brisbane if our recon shows something there, and otherwise will head toward Noumea to meet the Oilers before deciding if any more strikes are possible in the area. By the time we're done here it looks like there might not be any AMs left in Australia as 4 more are hit hard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Sydney , at 90,167 Weather in hex: Severe storms Raid detected at 67 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet. The air groups are topped up and this new CV will supplement the Mini-KB soon. Eventually she will be sent into the full KB but right now there isn't the need to group all CVs together and this will give the mini a bit more power should British or US CVs drop in unexpectedly. I thikn with Junyo the mini could take on 2 US CVs or 3-4 British CVs, but of course we would like to avoid either case without LBA support or the KB around. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ [image]local://upfiles/37283/7E3A448CCC7B4C16A97661D0ED3DC1F3.jpg[/image] _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ China: Troops continue to push the far NW limit of the Empire by shoving on small Chinese brigade along the road to Hami. Bombing seems to be having some effect in Tuyun. Some troops appear to be leaving that base. This could be unrelated, or could be a ploy to try to get me to attack, thinking we'd catch something in move mode. We'll sit tight for now as we adjust garrisons and bring in base forces for the central Chinese bases recently conquered. DEI: All is prepping and in motion toward the Australian invasion, including a precursor strike at Perth, more to see what is there than to destroy much. The mini-KB stationed at Cocos will move down and get to the E of Perth before striking. This is a relatively safe attack given that we have 3 Glen subs searching the edge of the map toward Cape Town, 15 mavis at Cocos, and 2 more subs (that have seen nothing the entire 3 months on patrol) near the approaches to Adelaide. Still, we'll have a surface fleet of 2 CL and 5 DD with the mini, plus an ASW TF, and several of the Jake units will be on 10 hex naval search. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
