Rhetor -> A question about independence (11/19/2011 7:17:09 AM)

Dear All,

CUT
Am I wrong here? Comments appreciated.

Canoerebel -> RE: A question about independence (11/19/2011 7:24:12 AM)

I know this wasn't intentional on your part, but you have just violated the "confidentiality" of GreyJoy's AAR by restating things here that his opponent is free to read. You might want to edit your post to pretty much omit everything you said. (This isn't intended to be "harsh," but I just need to be frank.)

To answer your questions: Yes, once orders are issued for a turn, your commander might not do what you thought he would do, and you don't get a chance to reassign orders given to your aircraft.

To answer your implied question of "Should I buy this game even though it doesn't do everything I think it should?" The answer: Yes! AE is a spectacular gaming experience. Easily the best game I've ever played. As long as I have opponents willing to play against me, I will be content to only play AE for the next ten or twenty years.

To be certain, I have deleted everything; but I believed that my questions were concerned mostly with the game mechanics [ie. common knowledge], not the actual events within the game, and the situation it might refer to happened many months back. I shall try to rephrase. Anyway, the post can well be considered out of place and if I revealed anything of value [the post remained online only for a few minutes] it was completely unintentional, resulted from my lack of experience (it is my first post on the War in the Pacific forum), and I wish to apologize both the parties involved.

So the orders given to aircraft like altitude or mission are set in stone once you end your turn, whereas the orders given to task forces are not?

And that is precisely what scares me - I might got hooked up on it :D

DOCUP -> RE: A question about independence (11/19/2011 8:17:39 AM)

Rhector: I will say this the game is worth buying. Welcome to the forum.

GreyJoy -> RE: A question about independence (11/19/2011 8:18:12 AM)

No problem mate! Whatever it was written...[;)]

However yes, if i understand your question, once you end the turn, till next order phase, you cannot change the orders you have given, no matter is these orders are given to air, naval or ground forces.
But consider that there are a number of factors that influence the effective outcome of your orders (Leader decisions, dice and roll, morale checks, weather, etc etc).
In this game you aren't "God". You cannot simply command and expect that everyone does what you have ordered. You are like Nimitz...you give your orders but then you have to rely on the subordinates you have chosen to accomplish your orders...and they are men...and like every men, they do mistakes[:D]
So you may order to a task force to bomb the base X...rush at max speed, arrive and bomb at night, and then get back so that you are far away from enemy LBAs when the sun comes up...
These are the orders...but in war many things can go wrong (fuel, mechanical problems, etc etc) or simply the leader you chose was too aggressive and he swicthed the mission to surface combat cause his radars have identified an enemy SCTF and he goes engaging it... you never know...

Haven't stored a copy, sadly :( However, I am glad we have cleared that up.

Resistance is futile. You will be asimilated.

dr.hal -> RE: A question about independence (11/22/2011 3:14:05 PM)

The only way to "recall" orders after you pressed that little red triangle on your options line is to reload that turn and start all over again... not a happy thought when you are playing the BIG scenarios. Hal

jeffk3510 -> RE: A question about independence (11/22/2011 4:43:22 PM)

You will.

As Borat says...." Wowowewow"

Rhetor -> RE: A question about independence (12/4/2011 11:21:13 AM)

OK. I have bought it (two days before the sale begun [:@]). I have played it against the AI; managed to cripple a Japanese convoy with the Force Z, lose the Enterprise due to a lucky torpedo hit, and lose the air battle for the Philippines due to the air groups being set mostly to "training" for many consecutive turns. Still can't figure out exactly how to reassign land and air units to make them loadable (ie. to save them from the Philippines or the Malaya), how to calculate the number of hexes a Task Force can travel per turn or planes fly, and how to determine what is e.g. an "AS" or a "HDML" without refering to the manual (which manual seems to be at odds with the game itself, as the auto-convoy port for the British is not Karachi, but Colombo).
It would help new players if the ship type code would show the description when the coursor is on top... I am comfortable with main classes, but various kinds of auxiliaries and transports are confusing at the beginning.

Anyway, a huge expansion comparing to the Pacific War I played so many years ago. Now with the Christmas sale I might be tempted to acquire the War in the East too... (running the risk of being divorced and/or unemployed by the end of 2012 [:D])

WitP AE will take care of the divorce, add WitE to this toxic mix and unemployment will come soon enough. So better make sure it is divorced AND unemployed in your post. And end of 2012 is a very optimistic (some may say pessimistic) estimate.

Do not miss this http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2260137and this http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2564541 for starters.

Welcome,

Bill Durrant -> RE: A question about independence (12/5/2011 10:43:33 PM)

Welcome. You'll love this game.

I remember in the dim and distant past someone bought a game just before the sale and contacted Matrix and they refunded to the reduced price. I'm not saying they will and nobody would blame them for not doing so but it is an indication of what a great company they are and their commitment to long term customer relations.

At full price it will be the best purchase you have ever made.
