ORIGINAL: warspite1 I caught the back end of a Timewatch program on Captain James Cook. I remember reading a Ladybird Book about him when I was very young - and only really "know" about him from that. Sounds like this truly great man really lost the plot at the end.... Does anyone know any good books on this life? warspite1 No? Oh well...... Meantime, continuing to watch Penny Dreadful, 24 and Me Sloane. Penny Dreadful is no fun - very dark - but last night's episode was interesting. From what I can make out the series is very loosely based on Victorian horror tales - using such as Shelley's Frankenstein and Stoker's Dracula - and weaving them into a new story. A very strong cast here - Sir Timothy Dalton is worth the entrance fee for his voice alone, while Eva Green, with her chiselled features and exquisite cheekbones, is perfect as Vanessa Ives.... 24 - just unmissable Mr Sloane - the perfect antidote to Penny Dreadful. Nick Frost is such a likeable dude. Not a side-splitting comedy, but a fine, light hearted piece of drama.
