Apocalypse WW I series on the AHC channel (American History Channel), well done, well narrated , a historical, makes one get on line to kill, destroy, maim, a great series that pushes the enthusiasm button to play CTGW...[sm=00000106.gif]

Just watched the brad pitt film Fury - nothing special, in fact it kind of annoys me that they always portray the germans as complete morons who literally just run en masse into gun fire - the allieds won the war but i doubt that they would have done it so easily as such movies depict, i think i am still waiting for a realistic ww2 war movie In Fury there is an SS battalion that just run around like headless chickens in front of a tank - and they have every advantage in the world over the tank, that is, they have crates of panzerfausts, it is night, there is smoke everywhere , oh and the tank is immobilised - it kind of ruins any sense of simulated realism when the germans in Wolfenstein 3D are more intelligent

New series on BBC tonight - the re-make of the 1970's classic Poldark. Definitely worth a look [:)]

I have never even heard of Poldark before. warspite1 The Poldark series are novels written by Winston Graham. Set in the 1780's the hero, Ross Poldark, returns to his native Cornwall from fighting the American War of Independence, only to find his dad is dead and the estate has gone to rack and ruin. Not only that but his "girl", think Ross is dead and so agrees to marry his cousin. Whoops!

Been watching Arthur and George on Monday evenings. Based on true events it tells the true story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's (yes, he of Sherlock Holmes fame) attempts to get a miscarriage of justice righted. This 3-parter finishes tonight and has been most watchable. [:)]

[:(] I recently enjoyed the Australian mini series The Far Country that was made in the '80s. All in all a pleasant trip back to memoryville. [:)] If you are going to watch it then beware that there are, at least, two versions. One movie version that is heavily cut and less than half the length of the series and I doubt that it is as good as the series. I guess its similar to when, for example, a war film uses modern day tanks and ships in a WWII film... yuk. I guess everyone has a "breaking" point as to what is important.

WW2 docos mainly,but some are so amateurish-a sample from one I saw about the battle of Kursk-"while in the south,the ss leibstandate,totenkopf,and das reich adolf hitler regiment?!!! It began to sound like a monty python sketch,and there were more howlers to follow.Peter[:)]

Indian Summers is really picking up! [:)] I feared it would just be an excuse to bash the British, but has actually proved more sophisticated than that - highlighting the class divisions in Indian society itself as well as the down side of any imperial rule (even one as benign as the British). The complexity of British rule was also highlighted by one particular line, delievered by the Indian father (wounded in the war fighting for the British) to his daughter (who is a follower of Gandhi) �The British gave you the education to sit here scorning your own father,� Excellent drama series so far [&o]
