Wow! Thanks for sharing [&o]. I have never heard of this, although judging from the Granada intro, it must have been on British TV.

I read Beever's The Battle for Spain many years ago and then spent some time last year reading up on Franco / Petain / Mussolini and Hitler's southern options.

I look forward to looking at these immensely [:)]

Just seen the first episode. Excellent. In presentation and tone it's like the The World At War and the seminal The Great War. Like those earlier productions it's also old enough to have survivors from the civil war, and the period leading to it, to provide their first hand accounts.

You're welcome, I decided to watch this series again because of the current political atmosphere. Great production and the actual participants along with pics and vids gives it a strong impact.

I begun watching this series as well. [:)]

But I had to take a break because I had trouble hearing, and understanding, what was said. [:(]

I will make another try soon but with subtitles this time.

Thank you for sharing. [&o]

Well I'm continuing with Westworld but it remains a bit tough going. Last night's episode (number 4) at least showed some signs that things were picking up. I hope it starts to kick on from here.

Ed Harris is the only thing keeping that show going if you ask me. Even Anthony Hopkins has disappointed. (This is all my opinion.)
warspite1

Well Ed Harris is a bit of a cool dude. He was great in Apollo 13 "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" [8D].

I may have gotten ahead of myself. This last episode was decent in that it hints of crazy things to come. I think Hopkins is one of the best actors of his timeframe if no0t the best. His part seems to not really be all that good of a part, but it may get better.

I've watched this series a couple of times and it really is excellent. Highly recommended, even if you thought you weren't interested in the SCW.

It's a shame the YouTube version is such low quality. There is a much better version around somewhere. If I can find it again I'll post a link.

warspite1 -> RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now? (11/13/2016 7:32:25 PM)

Sorry to hear the problems some are having. The You Tube version I got from the link above works perfectly well and the sound is good. Only the subtitles are a bit of a challenge. For example see below. The narration was "Alfonso was spending his final hours in the Royal Palace" but came out as [:D]

Just finished the second episode. Its amazing the war lasted as long as it did - the Republicans were so fragmented....

MakeeLearn -> RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now? (11/13/2016 8:07:15 PM)

I found this series a few years ago while trying to find the movie "Land and Freedom" which is based on the war.

Do they keep the Royal Panties in the Royal Palace? Or are they always on the Royal?

warspite1 -> RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now? (11/14/2016 9:07:55 PM)

Just watched No.3 featuring Guernica and the heartbreaking children refugees being sent overseas [:(]

On a lighter note, the subtitles are not getting any better....

Two more episodes to go. I really want to re-read Beevor's book now [&:]

I'm watching YouTube trying to follow the conflict in Syria/Iraq. It's uh... complicated to say the least. Quite the mess. I wonder how long it will take to rebuild it all.

I remember this - a Channel 4 production if I remember rightly. Watched it with my old mum, god bless her.

Well having finished the Spanish Civil War I might just give this another go [:)]

Most people think it was the America Civil War that was the first to be photographed, it was the Crimean.

The Affair is back for series 3. I wish they had a proper re-cap when series return like this. I am struggling to remember who everyone is let alone what the hell they did in the last two series! Looks like Brendan Fraser has joined the show!

WW1 in color & HD. Bought couple copies of Axis & Allies 1914, playing solo right now, so thought I would have something to watch while I am gaming.

Started watching "Victoria" (the series with Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria). Can not in any way recommend it unfortunately. It seems that the people behind this movie are stuck in a cartoonish story telling mode. The "bad" people are made to look like cartoon villains, the "good" people are made to look beautiful, and the story does not really progress well in my oppinion.

terje439 are you ill? Are you a communist? Have you gone stark raving mad? You cannot recommend Victoria?

Allow me to explain
