Wow, you can play on that thing Nedrear? I had trouble on the larger galaxies with my old Laptop, which had 4gb of RAM (DDR2) and a GeForce 9800M and a 2.2ghz Dual Core Intel.

With my current system, however, I have noticed absolutely no slowdown of any kind on any setting. But that's because I designed it for SotS2, which has ridiculous requirements. With that game being a bust (for now, at least..) it has turned out to be pretty fantabulous for DW.

Hi Vince,

I'm not sure why you're having such a performance issue with the nebulas, but I'll see if we can turn the other ones off too. Just FYI, they cause no performance issues here on much lower end systems, so you might check your system and driver settings as well.

AMD Dual Core 2,8 Ghz
2 GB Ram
GeForce 9400 GT

It is not my fault that Nvidia threw a fist and decided their next gen card needed to be a miracle. The 9600er series and the 9800 GT are ten times stronger than mine. And mine can play this game!

Make no mistake, it is admiration and not derision! There's a ton of fantastic games out there you can run on a 9400GT, as long as you've got the RAM and the CPU. Throw 2 more gigs of RAM in that baby and you could play anything Paradox makes pretty comfortably.

It would be truly a life saver if you could add an option to disable those deep space nebula's also and
if they could still somehow remain functional.

And my PC has the newest drivers for all components, Bios, videocard, CPU. So I have no idea what the
issue could be.

And sorry for all the trouble everyone, I truly love this game, it's definitely my favorite space game
of all time and worth every penny.
edit: Maybe that's why the lag issue with nebulae bothers me so much, because this game is so awesome and
I enjoy it so much I just wish I could play it flawlessly.
But seriously if the lag from nebulae were removed in whatever way possible, even it were through an option
to remove the nebulae entirely, I would be extremely happy and could finally fully enjoy the game.

Vince I don't know if you already use it but (thanks to J HG T for recommending this) Gamebooster made a big difference for me. Increased my performance about 44%. Improved some lagging issues and allowed my fan to stop working overtime so much.

Not sure it will solve your problems but it may well help out quite a bit.

Actually I've been using Gamebooster for quite awhile, bought the full version until I was forced to reinstall
windows awhile back, have to dig up my key or something to get the full version again so I've been using
the trial.

It seems it's worse than I thought too, zooming in and out of solar systems with more than a couple planets causes
lag as well as being around many objects. Even just zooming in and out of my started planet after just starting
a new game causes lag. My planet is there, rotating around a larger planet with several ships flying nearby.

I've tried as many things as I can think of to fix this, reducing the resolution to minimum, forcing the game
to run on a single core, compatibility modes, I've run out of ideas and have no idea what it is about my
particular computer that struggles to run this game. For the most part I can run other high-end games just
fine.

Did you used to have to pay for gamebooster? This version is freeware without any limiting trial period. [:)]

If you haven't already try playing with the zoom/scroll speeds. There is a slight delay after giving the zoom order. You get used to it though. But maybe your problems run deeper than that... [:(]

Ok maximizing the zoom speed seems to help 'bypass' the lag so it's not so noticeable. Though I still have one
issue in that regard.

Zooming in happens much faster than zooming out. So I can zoom into a nebula and avoid most of the lag, but
zoomin out still happens relatively slowly so it takes much longer to zoom out and I still experience a great
deal of lag.

This is most noticeable if I start at a medium zoom level, then roll back the mousewheel one 'click' or level, then I zoom in one level, then out one level. The game ends up zooming closer and closer at a fast rate.
If both zooming levels were identical the screen would remain at the same distance after one zoom in, then zoom
out.

I still get a little lag when scrolling side to side when there are many/large objects around, however the lag
is minor in comparison to the zooming lag. So if the zoom out speed were as fast as the zoom in speed I think
I could consider this issue fixed and enjoy the game.

Has anyone else has this zooming issue where zooming in is faster than out, and maybe knows a fix for it?


In regards to Gamebooster I remember I paid $10 for it when it was Gamebooster 2, I'm using 3 right now and haven't
updated to the newest version yet, but now that you mention it I haven't noticed anything that actually says it's
a trial or anywhere that says I can buy it, so I guess they did make it free.

As far as I can tell zooming in one click on the mouse wheel takes you the same as zooming out 3 clicks. I don't know how you would alter this but I think it is intended. I usually want to go in close to look at an object/battle etc. but when going out often I am looking to see just a bit more of the map for strategic/tactical purposes.

One workaround is not to zoom but to use the galaxy/sector/system/and one more level buttons on the left. I'm pretty sure these each have a hotkey too. Should take you 'straight' to the appropriate level.

I must say, I use the zoom buttons on the mini-map far more often than the mouse-wheel.

I've just tried experimenting with using the instant zoom levels.. It just seems a little awkward for me.
I'm used to pointing my mouse over what i want to zoom towards, then rolling the wheel to zoom in.
Needing to point my whole screen so a solar system or planet is exactly in the center then clicking the zoom
to system button, then moving my screen so the planet is exactly centered in the screen then clicking zoom
to planet seems a little tedious. How do you usually do it?

edit:
Ok keeping the camera locked to an object at all times, then using the mouse to select different objects and
the insta-zoom buttons to zoom in and out from these different objects make everything much less of a hassle.
I can do what I need to do with relative ease and not experience any of that zooming lag.
I will keep playing around with this but so far so good.

edit:
I don't know why I hadn't thought of using the zoom buttons on the side along with locking the camera to
units and using the next/previous unit buttons before. It really takes a load off my chest not needing to
put up with all the zoom lag.

1. Agree war should make territory meaningless. Your territory is what you can defend.
2. Automatic exploration works great for me. 20 scouts will map everything in a couple decades, quicker if you buy maps.
3. I haven't noticed construction ships screwing up, just my experience.
4. Decent idea, some of the informational screens could use quite a bit of work in a variety of ways.
5. Good idea!
6. Meh money isn't too hard to come by, who cares?
